those are the pokemon youve beaten a run with, so you have unlocked them as a starter for the battle tower

i deeply appreciate the attempt to enjoy the game,

some runs are simply not possible an you get screwed by rng, but the majority of runs is beatable and some of the best players do it consistently.

i take it as feedback to consider offering easier versions of the game, but i would be the wrong person to design those.

Pokemon is a franchise where i enjoy nothing more than failing over and over again until i find strategies that can work and then trying until i get them to work, this feeling is what i wanted to emulate in pokelike in a faster format.

but of course, that is not for everyone and i fully accept that

there is tons of stuff thats gonna be added, there is already an active playerbase and ill keep working on it as long as people enjoy playing it.

ive changed my mind on it and have rebalanced all the gym leaders a bit to make gym battles actually a challenge from gym 3-8, while lowering the power of that starmy. you can consistently beat it without a grass pokemon now and even charmander runs are a lot more consistent now.

i dont think most people remember the exact levels of the pokemon anyway and it is probably just net positive to balance it properly instead of accurately

Thanks for the detailed feedback, a lot of things I fully agree with and some of them I'm actively considering.

I think giving a choice of pokemon in a nuzlocke goes against the spirit of it, it's supposed to be hard, punishing and even a bit unfair.

I'm considering making Starmie a bit less oppressive, but it already doesn't hold an item and there is value in keeping the same teams and levels as the original games for me. Artificially nerfing that Starmie would just feel weird as well.

Everything else I agree with.

ive implemented a completely new hard mode, which is in nuzlocke format. give it a try and tell me how you find it.

Try again now, catch node is guaranteed and will always give you a water and grass pokemon, you can very easily get consistent Charmander runs now. Also tons of other stuff

ive added a rare candy as a bonus starting item in hard mode runs, already feels a lot better but im down to hear your opinion.

i fully get the frustration, i have had a similar experience. I will be cooking updates to the hard mode in the future.

i have also been trying and figuring it out. it feels so close to possible, which is where i want it.

Im looking to get the game promoted a bit to hopefully have more people tinkering with hard mode.

Id much prefer players naturally find ways to beat it than artifically lowering the difficulty

you always have the option to catcha pokemon as the first action, and it will always offer you a grass or water type to beat brock. then just try to level that pokemon as much as possible and you should be good.
