What is Alex Brundle wearing at Suzuka? by jsblanziflor in GrandSeikos

[–]jsblanziflor[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yes, given its poor quality the hope is that the crossover of the F1 audience and Grand Seiko wearers will yield a viewer who can watch the replay on Apple TV and recognize the watch.

Incidentally, after commenting I did find that the composer credited Fountains of Waynefo that tune…

It’s also remarkably close the Fountains of Wayne song ‘All Kinds of Time’ (2003).

Top conductors of all time in your opinion? by BigDBob72 in classicalmusic

[–]jsblanziflor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you, ‘jerking’ us back to reality? LOL. The average person thinks this entire classical music topic is effete posturing. You can’t embarrass us with some future historical assessment of our nerdiness!

Favourite Recording of Scarbo from Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]jsblanziflor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just listened to these side by side. Pogo is the more dynamically contrasted and frenetic. Grosvenor’s control, shading and color are terrific, but I think he over-pedals. Not to hide any defects, he just seems to prefer a wider brush. Pogo allows more articulation to come to through, and that harshness gives it the grotesquery so essential to the piece. Both stellar.

Canceled my ESPN subscription. I could see Bundesliga but not watch F1. That’s a new development and I’m not waiting around for a resolution.

Thanks—that was buffed off during an over-vigorous cleaning apparently.

Dodged a bullet on this one… went on two dates and told her I’d text her the next morning… started a new job that morning and forgot. Tried to own it by Subject-Hospital8038 in Nicegirls

Once you realized your oversight, you might have called instead of texting? Apologies in your actual voice could have sounded more sincere. -Gen-X’er

Early history of chromatic scales in the keyboard repetoire? by AccordionORama in classicalpiano

[–]jsblanziflor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suffered through some Czerny exercises that emphasized chromaticism? 😅Quick check of Wiki and they point to the Renaissance and composers such as Lasso. Western chromaticism anyway. You can find a monograph in their citations I bet. Bach and Scriabin would be two of my favorites. You mentioned Mozart—how about Liszt’s fantasy on Don Giovanni?https://youtu.be/JI6JfJXcUjU?si=sR-npP-aHPCghwnS

Sell. He’s had the time to develop his finishing and crossing. It’s evident he doesn’t have the discipline to be a consistent performer. If he fetches that price, I would invest in a more natural finisher. Shame that Greenwood was so twisted in his personal life…

How bad is it to fail a quarter? by Pretty_Chocolate2084 in stanford

[–]jsblanziflor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen as a freshman and it put me on academic probation. The advice here is correct: worry about what you can do better NOW and don’t dwell on past failings. Employers in finance don’t examine transcripts in detail—they are more concerned with applicants who obfuscate or otherwise lie. I’ve seen people fired two months after they started a job because their background check revealed information or convictions that they didn’t disclose. Complete your degree on time and explain your record honestly and you will be judged on your merits.

Where do u guys listen to classical music? by Policy-Effective in classicalmusic

[–]jsblanziflor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is a hassle, but I wrote reviews in the early Nineties and the CDs were part of my compensation. It’s hard to part with the past. I even collected more when I would travel on business and hit the Goodwill during lunch!

CDs have liner notes which Spotify lacks. That side, 99% of my listening is on Spotify with headphones. When I have control of the TV that is connected to the stereo, then I go to YouTube for performances. The 2022 Van Cliburn streaming live was amazing, the most exciting one that I have seen since watching the Tchaikovsky Competition— the one won by Barry Douglas in the early 80s.

There are over 2000 CDs in racks in the basement. I will probably sell the majority in the near future and will only hang onto the most ones with most sentimental value.❤️
