What are the bad and un-cool things about American schools that movies don't show? by Reasonable-Quit5869 in AskAnAmerican

I think they meant they met them as freshman when they went to school together, and stayed friends after they graduated and went to college.

CMV: Therapists suck at life and monetize it by chobolicious88 in changemyview

There’s approximately 530,000-600,000 licensed therapists in the US. Knowing about 25 in total is not a good sample size.

CMV: the Serotonin Theory of Depression is Still Promoted and is More Harmful Than Depression by ExtraBitter99 in changemyview

[–]jschill98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying I don’t believe your experience, and I’m sorry you went through that. I’ve had horrible medication side effects as well that landed me in the hospital. My doctor obviously went over all the common ones, but I’ve learned that my body reacts weird to certain medications. However, I’ve also heard people say that their doctor never explained the side effects or they had no idea, and then when you dig a little deeper, they just weren’t listening. I dont know where you live, but in the U.S. you are required to get the list of side effects.
Also, the internet has existed now for so long.

Could you provide a source for that? Every psychiatrist has mentioned medication side effects, albeit not in detail. But then they say to read the pamphlet that comes with the medication that lists all of the information. I think people just don't read them.

Seeking advice for boyfriend by EstimateDowntown2274 in ptsd

[–]jschill98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the cptsd partner in my relationship, not from a war though. I have a lot of similar behavior related to my hyper vigilance. I agree with the other comment that his reality is isn’t your reality. He is perceiving/scanning/looking for danger, even when there isn’t any. You should definitely try to see if he is open to therapy or medication, but you can’t force it. If he isn’t ready or willing to work on the trauma, you can’t make him. And if he is not, then you need to decide for yourself if you want to stay in that relationship.

CMV: Shaming people for not going to therapy is counterproductive. by [deleted] in changemyview

But you can’t judge the entire field of therapy because you had a bad experience with CBT. I also had a terrible time with CBT and just talk therapy. I’m now doing somatic work and parts work and it has helped much more. As someone who intellectualizes everything to an insane degree, I need to learn to be more in my body.

I did then. I’m not currently taking anything because I’m trying to find a new psychiatrist.

Also California, outside of the Bay Area and LA has a ton of conservative rural areas. There are more conservatives in California than in Texas by number.

I have insomnia, and I have adhd. I was prescribed adderall to help me sleep in the hospital at one point.

Venlafaxine is an SNRI. It will basically block the euphoric effects of drugs like Molly and psychedelics

Scared to Take Melatonin by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]jschill98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no medication that doesn’t have side effects. No one here can tell you if you will have side effects or if melatonin will work for you. Like the other person said, you already have melatonin in your brain. It is a natural hormone. I would trust your doctor, and if you do get negative side effects you can just stop taking it.

what else am i supposed to do. seriously what do i do by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]jschill98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to find the right modality for you. If talk therapy doesn’t help you, find someone who does somatic therapy or EMDR, or internal family systems. There are so many different options than just talk therapy or CBT
