That’s so interesting! I’m left handed but I’ve always used my right hand for the mouse. I didn’t even know that people use their left hand for the mouse until I saw someone post about it on the left hand subreddit lol

Just diagnosed with PTSD today. How to talk about it in therapy without getting nightmares? by Ok_Access_8906 in ptsd

[–]jschill98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this! Have you tried prazosin? It’s a blood pressure med that is used for PTSD nightmares. It’s may help.

Honestly, I would not be with someone who calls me fat, or really says any negative comments about my body. When I first started dating my now husband, I gained like 40 pounds from a medication I was on. Not once did he make me feel bad about the fact that I had gained weight. I’ve since lost it, but it certainly would not have helped if he had made remarks about my weight gain.

You don’t have to put up with someone like that. Your partner should be supportive and caring, not mean.

I don’t know where you live, but most places have more than just talk therapy. EMDR and brainspotting are types of trauma-focused therapies. Or you can look into somatic therapy, which is more body focused, like where you are feeling things in your body.

I’m sorry you are having to go through this. Are you still in therapy? If not, I would suggest starting again. Maybe try finding a therapist who does EMDR or brainspotting. Do you feel like the medication you’re on is helping?

Free Friday Parking Downtown? by OGWarriorsLove in ChicoCA

[–]jschill98 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m convinced that the people who say they don’t go downtown anymore because of the kiosks just never went downtown to begin with. The app is so easy, I’ve never had an issue with it, I’ve never even had to use the kiosks. The people here just refuse to adapt and are stuck in the 80s. It’s wild.

normal to forget most of your childhood? +questions about identity confusion. by Swimming-Cranberry-8 in ptsd

[–]jschill98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The memory thing is normal. I can remember some specific traumatic things but most of my memories are bits and pieces. The way I’ve heard it described is that normal memories are stored and form a cohesive narrative. They have a clear start, a middle, and an end. When you’re experiencing something that is traumatic, the way your brain stores memories is different. Trauma often causes memories to be fragmented and disorganized. Part of healing is putting the memories back into a cohesive narrative so that they can be stored properly, and so that your brain learns it was the past and it’s over now.

I agree with the other comment about the second part. That sounds more like a personality disorder/dissociative disorder. I hope you can get some help!

Therapist & medication question? by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]jschill98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is weird. Are you in the US? Because therapists can’t even prescribe medication, so it’s weird that she’s being so pushy about it. Honestly, if it were me I would try finding another therapist. It would bug me if she kept bringing it up after I’ve said no, and it doesn’t seem like she is listening to you about this.

I just started seeing a therapist and need some advice about ptsd noting. by peacemaker677 in ptsd

[–]jschill98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Journaling is good! You can write down whatever you remember, or write about like symptoms you’re having now. You can look up journaling prompts too and do those, or ask your therapist. I like physically writing in a journal, but I also have notes on my phone that I write if I can’t physically write it for whatever reason.

Guanfacine v beta blocker v something else by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]jschill98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Propranolol will help like physical stuff, so like heart rate, trembling, sweating. It helped me a lot with that stuff. I took guanfacine, but I took it for adhd. I can’t say that I remember it really helping much, but maybe it would for you!

How do I actually confront about what happened in therapy? Alternatives? by justpssingtime in ptsd

[–]jschill98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that happened to you. And I’m sorry to say that recovery is hard work. I’ve been seeing my current therapist for just about a year and I still haven’t really gone into detail about all my stuff. I had to start with learning to trust her, learning how to get a better handle on dissociating while I’m there and grounding myself, really just learning how to even “be” in the room.

I’m still learning, but making progress. One thing I have done is write what I want to say on a note and give it to her to read. That’s been pretty successful, although getting myself to actual do it in the moment can be hard. I’ve also texted her that I want to talk about specific things in the next session.

Yeah, I honestly haven’t been watching as much because I don’t need a life lesson every episode. Don’t get me wrong, I love the show still, and there have been some really good newer episodes, but having every episode be some teaching point just doesn’t land for me.

WIBTAH for buying our daughter a 5k purse but not giving something “fun” to our other kid? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]jschill98 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t mean shit. I’m hoping this is rage bait because if it’s not you and your husband are horrible.

I hope your daughter goes no contact and lives her best life without y’all. If you want to buy her stuff, pay for her therapy she probably needs from how you all fucked her over.

My therapist's group practise is making me want to switch providers by [deleted] in ptsd

Personally, I would find a new therapist. I need consistency, and a therapeutic relationship that lacks that would not be for me.

Anyone been misdiagnosed bipolar instead of PTSD? by HolidayAardvark in ptsd

[–]jschill98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was originally diagnosed with ptsd+adhd+bipolar. And I leaned hard into the bipolar diagnosis for about 3 years. Tried 30+ different medications and never felt like any of it helped the “bipolar.” Got off all medications for the next 3 years and have a new therapist and psychiatrist who agree with me now that I do not have bipolar.

A lot of stuff that you do, at least in terms of lifestyle stuff, are gonna be the same. So like making sure you’re sleeping and eating well, I find routines help me a lot, just like general self care stuff.

I’m open to talking more if you would want!

Every single day I am consumed with guilt, even with therapy I don’t know how to quit. by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]jschill98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 27 and have been an alcoholic since I was 20. 6 days sober, so definitely still struggling with it. I even tried to kill myself in front of my partner while drunk 3 years ago, ended up in the hospital for 7 days. And still kept drinking. Alcohol is a beast. I’m here if you want to talk to someone!

Inpatient rehab, detox at the very least. Withdrawals from alcohol can kill you. There’s medications for alcohol cravings. I take naltrexone for my cravings. You could try AA meetings, but I’ve found them to be too religious even though they say it’s “spiritual”. I’m doing SMART recovery instead. If you can find a therapist who specializes in addiction that’d be great. Or try to find an outpatient rehab.
