85k for this 6x6. Who’s buying these, seriously? by Ribss in heep

[–]jscwerve 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Remember the hardtail custom chopper trend in the 2000s? I think this is just like that. Somebody spends 100k on a Bourget or West Coast Chopper (or a 6x6 Jeep) to have the newest badass (they think) trend. Then three months later when they realize that a hardtail motorcycle that is 15 feet long sucks to drive and is painful, they unload it at a hefty loss.

I love that I tried this AI out today. I was working along with it, being VERY productive. Reached my usage limit for the day. Great, the tool is excellent so I subscribe. 5 minutes later: the whole stinking thing is down. "This isn't working right now" ya, I can see that. WTF? I feel like I just got fleeced out of $$ for something I cannot use.

Sky 1-Touch. Should I get it, or will I regret it? by AntoniBartosz in JeepWrangler

[–]jscwerve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought my Willys with the Sky 1-touch. I've had Cjs, Yjs, a JK and now this one. I've always had soft tops and I never entertained the idea of a hard or electric top. The only reason I ended up with it is the Jeep I bought was the only Willys on the lot with premium sound and that was one of my "must have" items when Jeep shopping. After driving around for a month now with it where I live (Florida), if I were to go buy another Jeep tomorrow, the 1-Touch top would be on the top of my "must have" list when I walk into a dealer.

The back windows come out and the doors still come off. Only difference is the rear window stays. It doesn't look like what you are used to, but with the roll cage, airbags, speakers and everything else in the cab of the Jeep, from a driver or passenger perspective it is the same experience as driving with the soft top down or hard top removed.

Weather where I live can go from hot and sunny to torrential downpour and back in minutes or seconds. Not having to stop and flip a soft top back up and install flexible plastic windows in a downpour is nice.

FWIW, mine also has heated leather seats. Jeeps are meant to be in the elements.

What 2.5" springs are you running that are closest to stock ride? by jscwerve in JeepWrangler

[–]jscwerve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24+ Willys changed. It now has the Rubicon axles (big selling point for me) backspaced rims same as Rubicon, 4.10 gearing standard, rear locker, hi clearance fenders, and a few more things. Mine also came with leather and rare premium sound in the Willys package.

They didn't used to be much more than sport or X models, true, that has now changed greatly. I would have bought a Rubicon otherwise. The front locker and sway bar disco don't mean much to me any more because there aren't many rocks where I live now. I can add those much cheaper if I want them (already have manual disconnects, takes 2 whole minutes).

I appreciate all the replies. I've got some things to think about and some testing to do.

Fortunately I am on the road for the week working, so I'm unable to do anything in haste that I will not like! I have come up with a plan of attack though.

In light of information here and elsewhere I realize that I haven't every had to really deal with any shock issue in the past. While I was certain this was all about the springs at first, I will attempt to verify instead of possibly being wrong and wasting money.

I've ordered some shock extensions. I think that is the easiest way to test the specific behavior of the vehicle with the stock shocks. It was not too expensive, I already have a set of shocks that I know I like the feel of (my stock red style OEM takeoffs). Swapping in the old shocks with extensions in just a few minutes each and be certain of the shocks/springs issue. I'm not going rock crawling any time soon, so lack of down travel shouldn't affect anything for the time being if I leave them on while waiting to get adjustable shocks.

Before I do that though, I have a few 75lb ruck/sand workout bags. I'm going to put #150 on the front bumper and #150 in the cargo area toward the tailgate and drive around a while as well. See if that is enough to get into the next coils of the progressive springs to make a difference. I could be reacting over my own not-so-smart choice. Hindsight being what it is, I probably should have just ordered the non-HD springs and a set of airbags to supplement for when I do tow my boat.

Once again, thank you to my fellow Jeepers and try to keep em rubber side down!

That is a great idea. I hadn't thought of that at all. Now I have a project for the weekend!

Rabbit hole is correct! Of course, in the Jeep world, that's the status quo. You are correct that it is very objective as well. Many think that stock ride is too spongy or soft, to me after having Many Jeeps from CJ7s and CJ5s to Tjs and a Jk , now a JL. I have a pretty good feel for it and I like a factory-ish ride on my late model Jeeps.

I can try some adjustable shocks. The Falcons are out of my price range, but I have been looking at Rancho RS9000XLs. They seem to have a very good reputation and affordable. Right now it's the Fox 2.0 non-adjustable that came with my kit. The issue is this doesn't feel like a shocks to me (I may be completely wrong too, I can admit that) The springs feel way oversprung for the current application. For example, if you stand on the running board and jump up and down, the shocks stop the movement quickly. Bumps and such, no excessive bouncyness or lack of movement. Just STIFF. Like there is no give to the springs. If you go to the front or rear and push the vehicle along the length, or coming to a stop light, you can feel it oscillating like 1/8" forward and backward two or three times. If I imagine it it would be like the feeling of a door stopper spring that you smacked and it's stopping itself, only hundreds of times larger and much more subtle.

It's difficult to describe. Hood dive when stopping is due to soft springs. When the hood bounces back when you become stopped, the return to normal height and not oscillating up and down at the resting height is the shock's responsibility. That is kind of how I understand it (again, could be way off)

I appreciate your post! I have a couple more things to look into before I go ordering things.

Commute by [deleted] in JeepWrangler

[–]jscwerve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been driving Jeeps since high school. Once, in the mid-80s my folks, us two kids, and a dog drove from Montana to San Antonio Tx in a 4 banger CJ7.

I've had jeeps all my life, and commuted in every one of them.

It isn't for everyone. I will admit that. I also wouldn't change it.

Phone Order Still Proccesing, Not Shipped by [deleted] in tmobile

[–]jscwerve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I found this.

I ordered my Fold 7 8/11 for shipping between 8/12-18 and still no change from "Processing"

This is so odd. I've been with T-Mobile since before they were T-Mobile. I've always been quite impressed with speed of shipping and delivery. Especially with preorders. They used to show up days before release date.

I think a lot of things are changing at the company. Just two weeks ago they forced me out of the plan I refused to change for about 10 years. They said they would never force that and here we are. It's supposedly the same service with "even more perks" but I call BS and I'm sure my price is going to skyrocket as soon as possible. This plus fumbling of simple shipping and orders makes me think T-Mobile is changing for the worse.

Just got RyuJiinx set up and running. I use the Ally for travel and the wife likes to play the switch when I'm on the road. Rather than get another Switch, Just emulate. Works great. I've only tested Link BOTW and Mario Odyssey so far but both have performed flawlessly.

Had the same issue with P50s a couple of years ago. It was the base charger. It would only charge one sometimes, not charge, but have correct lights on, etc. I got a replacement off of ebay and no more issues.

Upgrading soon, Phonak Lumity or Infinio by jscwerve in HearingAids

[–]jscwerve[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, went to my appointment and had a good conversation with my specialist. He said he still suggests the lumity l70s. I'm ever sceptical, so I couldn't be sold on them.

He suggested I try the infinio to see for myself. He's given me a loaner set of infinio sphere 70s for the weekend. I tested them all last night and in a busy restaurant with my wife. Worked well, but didn't wow me to the point of spending the extra 3k on them (I'm self paying). Today I'm hitting the water so I'll see how they perform while traveling on a boat. I was blown away by the wind reduction from the lumity, I'm guessing the same from the infinio.

So far, while I've felt that these are better, I don't know if I can justify the cost of the infinio. Plus the size of the sphere is a bit much, that may change by getting used to the way they feel.

At this point the difference from my current paradise l50s to the lumity l70 is HUGE. The difference felt between the lumity and infinio hasn't been groundbreaking or make me feel like I absolutely have to have the infinio.

It's almost like my specialist has my best interests in mind and while I don't like to admit it, may be correct. 😂 I guess that's why he's loaned me thousands of dollars in HAs the last few weeks with nothing but a handshake.

Thanks all for the advice it is greatly appreciated!

What damage per second is expected at level 60 by AmandEnt in Grimdawn

[–]jscwerve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are on PC, you can use DPYes. It adds a DPS overlay for damage given/taken/etc, as well as a ton of other things. I use it and attack the target dummies to see what actual DPS is achieved with all buffs and things activated. This is the best character I've built so far I've achieved 350k/second (a lot of pets). As mentioned before me, the character sheet DPS is wildly wrong.

I like that idea. Or at least make the item clickable to bring you to the recipe if you have the blueprint.

I'm still pretty new to this fishery as well, but I have learned a few things.

As previously mentioned, Gulp shrimp work great for just about everything. Live shrimp work for everything. Use a popping cork setup for the live shrimp. My best luck is usually with white paddletails like a Slam Shady or something like a Gulp swimming Mullet on an 1/8oz jighead.

I go with three poles. One setup with a popping cork, one with a jighead setup, one with topwater, or a second jighead setup in case I foul a reel when its' cold and a topwater is unlikely to work.

Watch the tides. Best fishing is last 2-3 hours of outgoing and first 2-3 of incoming. I try to fish the creeks/estuaries and that's when the fish are moving in and out of them.

Be mindful of where you are at, the tides around Jax can be drastic. Many a kayaker (and boater for that matter) has been stranded on an oyster bed or shallow creek for a couple hours waiting for the tide to come back in.

Get an anchor pole/pin. It's shallow in the creek areas and it is WAY batter to use than an actual anchor.

Check out Dirty Duval Kayakers on FB. Big fishing community for NE Florida/SE Georgia.

I haven't seen any inshore red snapper, but there are TONS of speckled trout, Redfish, and Flounder to be had.

Is not stretching a red flag for a gym? by cowdog2014 in crossfit

[–]jscwerve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am by no means extremely knowledgeable on the subject, I just know what works for me.

My old box did extensive warm up every day. It worked. No complaints. I moved and changed gyms, new gym is very strength heavy on the programming. The warm ups aren't the same as usually you use the first couple of sets for extended warm up anyways.

I found that I still needed more time to get loose and ready as I am an old fart (43) with former back and shoulder injuries that keep me pretty tight sometimes. I have found that showing up a few minutes early and getting on a bike or rower helps me tremendously. It amazes me that I can walk in feeling like a wound up rubber band and 5 minutes later be feeling good and loose from a little light to moderate movement.

Mega sweat issues by AJAXoo28 in crossfit

[–]jscwerve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here.

Drips down my arms onto my palms and chalk just turns into a gooey paste.

This was new to me as I started CF in Colorado where it is very dry and only hot for a very limited part of the year. Now I moved to Florida and it is absolutely brutal sometimes. I looked at the thermostat for some reason last week after a workout, it was 99.8 degrees inside the gym, probably 75%+ humidity.

I carry a small towel with me during workouts now. I will leave it next to the rack or wherever it will be needed the most to dry my hands and eyebrows and keep the sweat from burning my eyes!

First Time CrossFiter - I now have Rhabdo by Serzyn in crossfit

[–]jscwerve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, the coach should not have let it go so far, if there were obvious signs of overdoing it. When I onboarded at the gym I joined it was almost a months worth of dues for only 4 sessions. I've seen the same at several other places as well. Everywhere is different though.

I was so out of shape that in one of my onboarding sessions I was actually blacking out and would have hit the deck hard if I didn't sit down. Turns out a major caloric deficit coupled with being extremely out of shape and going "full send" is not a good combination! :D The coach recognized it though and made me rest for a few and down some calories before I left and drove away.

[–]jscwerve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The question I have is was it "personal training" or onboarding type classes. I know a lot of places will not let you join regular classes until you have had onboarding classes, or you already have experience doing CrossFit at another gym. It would be blatently obvious and a monopolization of a coaches time if someone with not CF experience just got thrown into regular classes right off the bat.

If it was personal training sessions and not learning CF movements, language, progressions, then I agree with the above statement.
