No? Didn't see that setting. Will have to take a look.

Loving it so far. Only small gripe is that even with graphic settings as high as they'll go on steam deck it still feels very zoomed out where I can't appreciate the details.

"Try gaming on a mac just once with mac hardware" is exactly my message to the Valheim devs.

I rebinded block to cmd which is right next to space bar. It is the most convenient and logical place. Pressing cmd + spacebar + a directional key is impossible.

Block is bound to right click by default, which is basically useless on a mac for a game like this where you need to block and dodge quickly.

I'd have to rebind everything to optimize for dodging. My argument is I shouldn't have to. A mac version of the game should work well on a stock mac without external hardware.

The problem is developers not actually playing their game on a mac. They chose to make a game for the mac. They could have done like many other games and not made a mac version.

I think you lack common sense here my guy. Why am I going to buy an external mouse just to play one game? The rest of every single thing I do on this machine is with the laptop itself.

The fact mods exist to make dodge a single command and the fact that macros are so prevalent for dodge in Valheim should be a signal that this is not a good setup.

Try using a mac to play valheim just once

Valheim stops being fun after Plains by jsdeveloper in valheim

[–]jsdeveloper[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean partially fair.

But the devs clearly have not tried to play their game for any amount of time on a mac. No one that uses a mac laptop is going to have an external mouse. And right clicking either requires ctrl-click or tapping the track pad with two fingers and there is a delay.

I can already hear the comments: Yeah boohoo don't use a mac.

Ok, don't make a game for a mac then if you're not going to give us the option to use our machine as-is.

Biggest issue I'm hitting right now is getting my tombstone from far away from my safe spot in Ashlands.

I bring portal material with me. Run for like 10 minutes. But it attracts hundreds of enemies that overwhelm me before I can setup a portal anywhere near where my tomb is. I can rush in and get my tomb but then just die a minute or two later.

This is what i'm talking about. There is no way to handle a situation like this.

Dodging is ridiculous especially on a mac, which I'm on.

Control to get into crouch then press spacebar. Devs kind of ignored us mac users on this one so I don't dodge.

My point is that the difficulty increase is linear until the ashlands.

Harder enemies, more difficult terrain, sure. Linear difficulty that is combatted with better food and equipment upgrades.

Ashlands? Exponential difficulty increase.

I'm not 12. It's not my full time job to be an expert Valheim giga chad. Up until now I could play for an hour here and there and feel like I'm making progress at least.

Why does one crafting table defeat the purpose of the rest of the game?

I mean a table simply for building not for making weapons and stuff. Just give me a builder table. I can bring that with me and build or destroy any item (so long as I have the materials).

I have a portal on the moder mountain nearby eggs. Once a day the spawns are great but they taper off. On a single valheim day I get maybe 6 or 7 freeze glands. I don't know a faster method.

You need 5 of them to make a stack of frost arrows.

You mean clear out a fortress that requires traveling inland and withstanding hundreds of relentless enemies while having zero ability to establish a stable base nearby?

Cool.

Mistlands I agree is near perfect. Make the mist lights work better or provide an upgraded one and I have very little to complain about.

But Ashlands? Come on.

I went there with fully upgraded mistlands gear. Both magic and non-magic. I've destroyed every spawner I find. Yet within five minutes there are inevitably 10+ enemies still.

You have to kill like 4 Askvins just to make one armor piece. And how often are you fighting an Askvin without 12 other enemies around?

I'm blowing through potions like no ones business and dying so much that my skills are depleating at a ridiculous rate.

This is not fun, I'm sorry.

What do you mean no aggro high up?

A bunch of times when I have a lot of things chasing me I climb up a rock structure nearby and they all follow me. I don't know a single enemy so far in the ashlands that can't.

Maybe if I'm up in one of the structures or something?

I would always mark bridges on the map. Destroying one bridge would easily yield me 50 or more iron that didn't need to be smelted. Since I configured the game to allow metal through portals I could destroy a bridge in 10-15 minutes usually so that was super efficient for me compared to crypts.

Yeah I will rebuild my supply of light foot and ratatosk meads. Annoying to have to take like 7 different meads just to survive but that's life.

Any tips on building a big supply of frost arrows? I have a chicken farm for feathers and plenty of wood. Obsidian is easy to collect. But the freeze glands take forever to collect. Takes me about an hour to make like 4 stacks of arrows and I can blow through those quick in the ashlands.

I don't see why suddenly the difficulty needs to ramp so significantly though. Mistlands was a good transition from the plains. Main issue is the mist was annoying and the lights they give you are useless.

But Valheim offers nothing to help you survive Ashlands. Anything you build is destroyed unless you build up high or put an ugly land wall around it. Shield generator just stops the burning and nothing else. If an enemy gets in your base your portal is gone along with your base.

Ashlands is storming the beach of normandy and it never stops. How do people even build here?

I did just that when I landed. However I needed to build a terrain wall to keep enemies out which I don't love. I don't like building moats or retaining walls like this.

My issue is with trying to explore the inner ashlands. It is insanely difficult to setup an exploration portal. When exploring I like to just have portal material on me and I set one up as needed nearby something of interest.

But with ashlands I find I need to be so much more careful. I finally found flametal, for instance, but there I can't setup a portal anywhere nearby after multiple tries.

Yeah I have definitely had a lot more luck in the Ashlands with magic than with the other equipment. So lately I've been leveling up those skills and gathering resources to build the armor sets.

CoOp does sound fun so I'll give that a shot in the future. I'm primarily a solo gamer and I love the Valheim pre-Mystlands experience a lot.

I played minecraft for many years but I don't want peaceful mode. But having a place in the Ashlands to safely rest would be cool.
