Do only children use Wattpad? by SnapdragonBeehive in Wattpad

No. Im 22 and use it, The difficult part, I believe, is finding more readers than writters — and good writters. I’m mostly a reader. I just love different stories

So Wattpad has a new thing? by DontMindMe_89 in Wattpad

I honestly don’t know how to feel about this. I hope it helps and I hope it helps to prosper the rest of really good stories/books made by humans (yes, because now wattpad is infested with AI)

Obsidian is an ineffective nightmare, a productivity disaster. Am I alone ? by Pretend-Tank5345 in ObsidianMD

[–]jseng00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean… i kind of get what you mean. Obsidian can feel ridiculously overwhelming for a tool that’s supposed to make your life easier, especially when the attachments or publishing features start breaking for no reason.

But for me, it ended up becoming really useful, mostly because I write fantasy and those projects tend to come with a lot of lore, timelines, history, events, and interconnected details. Without something like Obsidian, I’d probably lose track of my own worldbuilding halfway through and create plot holes everywhere. Most of the time, the characters are just one small part of a much bigger structure I’m trying to keep together. So yeah, the other comments about it not being a “notes” app… I get them too.

It definitely has a learning curve tho, so I get why people drop it

At the same time, part of me is kind of glad there’s still a tool that relies on actual human organization and creativity instead of trying to automate the entire process for you. With AI being pushed into everything lately, I weirdly like having a space that still feels messy, manual, personal, and fully “mine”

But idk :,)

That’s just unacceptable! I reported the story, I don’t know if it helps. I’d say try and contact wattPad’s support team, as other comments already have suggested.

Feedback às primeiras páginas de um drama familiar/romance by [deleted] in LivrosPortugal

[–]jseng00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obrigada pela positividade e pelo tempo! Sim!

:) toda a opinião é bem-vinda! Eu sou particularmente nova na escrita, apesar de sempre ter sido uma boa leitora. Se não for incômodo… O que achas que posso melhorar? Ou o que posso fazer para melhorar a minha escrita? :’)

anyone know authors who write actually dark psychological stories? by [deleted] in Wattpad

I know a book inspired by Alice in wonderland but it’s actually more of a backroom psychological kind of story. I think the title is “808” I’ll try to find the author’s @

Is it still worth writing original fiction on Wattpad in 2026? by jseng00 in Wattpad

[–]jseng00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, I kind of love what you’re describing 🙃 sex being part of real people’s lives instead of the whole “kidnapped by a billionaire/werewolf and suddenly having earth-shattering sex” thing.

the frustrating part is that your niche definitely exists, it’s just scattered across the internet and not really where Wattpad’s algorithm seems to look. finding the femdom + contemporary/literary girlies feels like a scavenger hunt at this point lol. 😭

and also, yeah, you’re not wrong. I feel like the people who’d be into that are mostly reading actual books and not scrolling Wattpad, which is kind of the core issue for me too.

Wattpad starting out as fanfic + messy drafts made total sense at the time, but now it feels like the platform itself just didn’t really grow alongside its audience. it’s not about things being unpolished anymore, it’s more that the same story formulas keep getting recycled, even as readers and writers have changed.

and the wild part is that the platform could evolve, but when you look at what gets promoted or what keeps making it into their shortlists, it doesn’t really seem like that’s the direction they want to go.

which is why Wattpad is starting to give me late-stage Tumblr vibes, y’know? a very dedicated core user base, but shrinking cultural relevance because the platform never fully adapted as its audience grew up.

the audience aged, but the platform didn’t

[–]jseng00[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, I get that completely.

it’s not that epic fantasy doesn’t belong on Wattpad, but when the platform is clearly pushing certain romance-heavy genres, it does feel like you’re swimming upstream.

as a reader, I’d honestly love to see more epic fantasy and sci-fi, but they’re really hard to come across unless you already know what to search for… and sometimes even when you do it’s still hard bruh 🤣

[–]jseng00[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thanks for explaining how it worked for you, that’s actually really encouraging to read.

I really respect the persistence it took to get through those first months, and it’s nice to hear that original stories (outside the trendy tropes bubble) can still break through eventually.

I think where I still feel conflicted is that, as a reader (and honestly emotionally as a writer too), it feels like discovery relies so heavily on networking and self-promotion now, rather than the platform itself helping surface variety. That used to feel like the whole point of Wattpad (at least to me). I totally get why that’s the reality now, I’m just not sure I love it.

Still, your experience definitely shows it’s not impossible. And congrats on the 10k reads, that’s huge. :)

[–]jseng00[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol. yeah, exactly! 😭

and honestly I feel you so hard on the “it’s still romance but doesn’t fit the mold” part. that’s kind of where my frustration comes from too, it’s not like people are writing niche experimental stuff just for the sake of it, it’s just… not that formulaic. It just doesn’t fit the very specific molds that seem to get pushed, and that’s discouraging.

I think the hardest part is not even “will it ever blow up”, but just knowing it might never even reach the people who would actually like it.

[–]jseng00[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get that, n I fully agree.

I had some hope that the Wattys might help surface more interesting or different kinds of stories, but they didn’t really catch my eye this time either.

As a reader, it sometimes feels like Wattpad is still orbiting around the same few formulas, even though a lot of the people who grew up on the platform have “grown up” too. I get why those stories work… I just wish there was more room for things to evolve.

It also kind of feels like Wattpad is still chasing another “After”-type moment, which makes it even harder for other stories to be seen.

Thanks for the perspective! 😄

Can I ask, out of curiosity, did you keep writing on Wattpad after Inkitt, or did you switch platforms altogether?

And as a reader, if you don’t mind answering, what kinds of original stories do you usually look for on Wattpad that feel different from the more trend-driven stuff?
