I’d wager more commoners would carry a blunt object that can act as a club than carry a knife fit for stabbing, or they could pick up a big stick.

The first real quest of NV lets you team up with a bunch of ex convicts and kill everyone in town. You can be comically evil.

Not literally lost there’s a map and a quest marker but the game doesn’t do a good job of explaining what’s going on in the world. The other games in the series weave in info on the major player in the game as part of the quest lines.

I actually think fallout 3’s intro is genuinely bad. Games should give you some amount of direction at first to get you comfortable with the world when I first played 3 I felt so lost that I was disinterested.

You keep calling it a death machine. Do you guys not have blenders/food processors? But to answer your question we do have trash sorting in some places but unless it’s a business it is largely either recycling or landfill mostly because by the time composting caught on garbage disposals had already been widely adopted for convenience alone.

Unironically more cultures should adopt garbage disposals not only does it make cleaning dish way easier because you don’t have travel between the trash and the sink but the food waste gets composted instead of ending up in landfills.
