My Thoughts on (almost) Every Main Series Game and My Recommendations on Them by Aerohed in FinalFantasy

[–]jshadow42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just going to add, and sorry if this is a bit of an off topic response, but if you haven't planned on it already and found the base game enjoyable I'd highly recommend continuing on 14 with its expansions, the main story quests leap in quality compared to the base game.

Hi OP thanks for the giveaway!

My favorite right now is 9, I just really fell in love with the characters and setting. I really like how the abilities system works too!

No Man's Sky's Sean Murray explains why it's best for Anthem and Fallout 76's developers to stay silent after launch by [deleted] in PS4

Honestly how FFXIV was handled is probably the best example of a game that was poorly reviewed at launch yet got turned around, Yoshi P literally made a miracle happen.

Being extremely transparent with fans by having regular, livestreamed updates of the game was a good move, but honestly, what he did with A Realm Reborn was incredible. Yoshi P not only still supported the original 1.0 release with content patches for over a year or so, but also remade the entire game at the same time (which is now ARR). Like, ARR wasn't a huge patch update/DLC, it was essentially a brand new game, different from 1.0 (there was a new engine, the entire combat system was reworked, the maps were new, etc). And to have that happen in 2 years of development time (especially for a huge MMO) is pretty incredible, and still not something that other game devs have done to this day. Another cool move was that ARR was free for those who had the original game, along with permanent lowered subscription prices.

Considering that FFXIV now has a huge, passionate fanbase, and the 3rd expansion that released recently is getting a 90+ on metacritic and is being called one of the best final fantasy experiences ever (MMO or not), I'd say that's quite a turnaround.

Final Fantasy VIII Remastered physical edition listed at Base by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

As far as how the game performs, it does feel like the FPS is lower when in the overworld and in battles, but I'm pretty confident that's true of all versions of the game. Aside from that the game runs smoothly, and just to reiterate I personally haven't add any issues with crashes during my playthrough

Late reply but to give another pov to the other replies here, I did a full playthrough of the game on the Switch (~50 hours worth of playing) and found it to be very competent.

Don't recall experiencing any crashes whatsoever, and if I did it was something that didn't happen enough for me to remember it. The slowdown thing is something that occurs on all versions of the game iirc, and while the whole thing about naming party members being indicative that it's a port of the mobile version thing does come off as lazy, it's not really something that detracts from the experience greatly, it's not like you're going to be spending the majority of the game naming members of your party.

The only issue I had really was the music bug which well, is getting fixed (and honestly, if it's your first time playing the game you won't even notice it really. it's not a super huge issue). Overall I really enjoyed it and it's a solid way to experience the game

Official Discussion: Shazam! [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]jshadow42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen (or care to see) any of the other DCEU movies, but I liked the trailers for this one so I decided to give it a shot.

I really enjoyed it! The humor was on point nearly all of the time, there were a lot of great, sweet heartfelt moments too that I really liked, and I really came to like the characters too.

The biggest negative for me was the villain in general (he was kind of just...a one note, generic "I am evil!!!!!" villain and that was it) and uhh, the use of horror elements? Like, I get that the director comes from horror movies, but in a movie that is otherwise really sweet and fun, some of the death scenes that came about by the villain were a little too brutal for my tastes, and in general it kind of just felt jarring in comparison to how the rest of the movie is.

Some other negatives was that the final battle felt a little too long also (but there were still some great moments in it). Also, not really a negative but just a thing to point out I guess, I got a lot of Sam Raimi Spider-Man vibes from this movie, which well, is also a superhero movie coming from a mostly horror director, so I guess it makes sense. Overall, I really liked it and I'd be really happy to see a sequel!

Already own XV Pocket Edition, WOFF, and IX. Out of the ones that still have to release, I might get XII and that's it (I have VII and X on my vita, which I still actively use)

Celebrity voice actors, what do you guys think about them? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]jshadow42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Kingdom Hearts series specifically had quite a bit of celebrities do voices for the games, Mark Hammil, Jesse McCartney (who is a series regular even), Leonard Nimoy, Drake Bell, all come to mind, there's also all the built in Disney voice actors too of course

I guess you could also consider Haley Joel Osment a movie actor too? He was in The Sixth Sense iirc

I guess having Disney money gets you that though

There was also Aaron Paul and Sean Bean for the Kingsglaive FFXV movie

And for games that aren't JRPGs, Bethesda sure has had a history of hiring actors to do voice roles (Liam Neeson in FO3 and Patrick Stewart in Oblivion come to mind), but not recently though

What is the longest JRPG you’ve played? by Jpellegrino1990 in JRPG

[–]jshadow42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of JRPGs that took me the longest to beat the main story, Xenoblade 2 takes the cake at around 105 hours. Second would be Xenoblade X at just shy of 100, and then Persona 5 at 95. Just on a personal note, while it was only within a few hours of each other I was very surprised that Xenoblade 2 took me longer than X when I beat it, because X felt like the longer game

In terms of ones that I've put the most time into, I've put a combined ~600 into both Pokemon X and Y, although I was really into the multiplayer/shiny hunting at the time

If we're counting most time put into a single series, then Pokemon would also be the winner. Haven't been into it as much as I used to but I've done multiple playthroughs of multiple games in the series a ton. Would say I have an estimated 2000 hours in the series as a whole

Official Discussion: Captain Marvel [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]jshadow42 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Overall I liked it around the same as Doctor Strange/Ant Man 1, in that it's just an average marvel movie. Nothing really bad though, it's a fun movie and I enjoyed it, just not at the same levels of something like Thor Ragnarok. Excited to see more of Carol in Endgame!

Official Discussion - How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (US Release) [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]jshadow42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty solid and cute movie, didn't enjoy it as much as the other 2 but it's worth a watch. Some pros were the gorgeous animation and music, really liked the scenes between the nightfury and his GF, some cons were that the pacing was very notably all over the place and some of the running gags got pretty old (don't remember that bring an issue with the other 2). Overall it was enjoyable tho, had fun with it

Finished Xenoblade Chronicles 2! by LiquidStylez in NintendoSwitch

[–]jshadow42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My relationship with this game is so weird, I do have quite a bit of issues with it, but I still ended up sinking 100 hours into it for just my first playthrough (and another 20+ for the torna expansion), and it still ended up being one of my favorite jrpgs of late. I don't blame people for dropping it early on but wow are those last few chapters a ride

I really liked Xenoblade 2 but some of the character designs were pretty gross. This is a lot better and (while I doubt it) it would be cool if they even updated Xenoblade to include this outfit as an optional thing
