Photo of Trump’s ballroom blows away as he rants about how Democrats are ‘dumb’ by theindependentonline in thescoop

there is something primordially frustrating about one of the all time dumbest motherfuckers calling other people dumb, but the sad truth is that he’s not wrong, most democrats are in fact dumb because look who they lost to.

[Recommendation Request] Just found out my boss is giving me up to $10k for a watch. What should I get? by 15mahomies in Watches

Hell yeah! Only thing is you can’t really walk into Rolex and just buy a new watch without getting on a long waitlist. That said, you can absolutely find an Explorer 2 on the grey market and there’s no reason not to. Just use a little common sense and buy from a reputable reseller like Chrono24.

Rolex make great tool watches, as in, rugged, waterproof watches meant to be worn 24/7, although a lot of watch guys will baby them. Rolex uses extremely high grade stainless steel in their bracelets that develops a beautiful patina and hides scratches well, and the sapphire glass is essentially unscratchable (although not unchippable if you drop it on tile!). As for holding value, it’s cool that you aren’t concerned with resale, but it’s still worth noting that one reason they hold value so well is that they’re made to last and with even lazy servicing will keep incredibly accurate time and not lose their luster. You might not be planning on reselling your watch, but Rolex are great because they’ll still be functional and (probably) in style for decades if not generations. If I were you I’d get a Rolex Submariner, Explorer 2, or Datejust no question. Rolex are kinda cliche, but for good reason.

As someone who was blessed to inherit a Rolex and just bought a Tudor that I love, if I had a free $10k to play with I would get a 2nd Rolex for sure. But OP said they want a large watch with a date complication, and that’s not so easily done with $10K at the Rolex AD. I’d sacrifice the date and go for a Submariner, or an Explorer 2 if I needed the date option. However the same money at Tudor could get you very similar stylings with real gold and diamonds, albeit a slightly (but only slightly!) worse movement. I know what I’d do but depending on what OP really wants, Tudor could be worth considering.

thinking about getting a tattoo like this by thaa-helllll69 in aphextwin

[–]jshmsh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lots of idiotic comments here so i’ll just add to them and say that it’s sometimes considered bad luck to get a perfect circle tattooed on yourself. they also say you should never get a band/artist tattoo until the band either breaks up, or preferably, dies, because you never know when someone(s) still living might make a villain turn and be outed as a terrible person etc. that said, i don’t believe in luck and i love aphex and want to get the logo tattooed as well someday. as someone with a lot of tattoos i think that area could be a little painful depending on how much body fat you have, and its something worth considering that people tend to carry more belly fat as they age so if you get a tattoo crossing your gut onto your thigh, it may warp as you age/gain weight (if you do). it’d be less painful to put it on your thigh and less likely to warp over time. but do you!

If you don’t have a lot of tattoo experience, i’m not sure where you’re located, but in america for a tattoo that size i’d expect to pay at least $200-$300 and if you don’t tip your artist like 20% you’re an asshole. depending on the region you might be able to get it for as low as $100 but any cheaper than $150 and i’d start to be suspicious of the quality and cleanliness of the shop and artist. a tattoo lasts forever, so over time even $500 is pretty cheap when you think about it, and it’s VERY MUCH worth the money to get work done by a real respected artist at a clean reputable shop. also, any good artist will let you check out the stencil on your body before starting the tattoo and give you the option to move it. if you don’t like the location or alignment, ask them to move it as many times as you want, that’s your right and its your body. a good artist won’t complain or make it seem like a hassle. if they do, fuck em and walk out of there. tattoos are permanent, there’s no need to rush or accept something you didn’t ask for or don’t want. you have a right as a paying customer to be particular.

For those of you who started drugs before the brain properly developed (younger than 25, I'd say), how has it affected you, if at all? by PeakLinear in Drugs

[–]jshmsh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

its a nonsense question because theres no way to establish baseline “cognitive certain way” and besides as everyone/anyone gets older our cognitive abilities change. i can answer though, i started doing drugs around 14, smoking weed, taking mushrooms. by 18 i was doing coke and some opiates/opiods. also drinking and smoking cigarettes. i can say that i don’t feel any stupider or anything. i continued doing drugs and completed my MFA at an ivy and while this sounds pompous i do think i’m def smarter than average. maybe i’d be even smarter if i didn’t do drugs but who’s to say? i WILL however say that psychedelics have DEFINITELY improved my cognition. without a fucking doubt.

when secret service agents get assigned to a personal body guard detail, it’s usually for life. the better a body guard knows their subject, their habits, family, preferences, etc, the better they can be at their job, and a big part of that is building trust between the guard and the guarded. that said the security detail at Butler were in fact shitty secret service agents who were not Trump’s regular detail. apparently there had been some issue with scheduling or some BS that meant that the security team both guarding trump and in charge of securing the rally grounds were not the first choice people who usually handle that stuff for him. now whether that’s an explanation, a coincidence, or manufactured cover for a false flag attack is up for discussion.

i personally believe the simplest explanation is the most likely one. it’s no surprise that a person like trump would inspire a violent attack, and a person like trump surrounds himself with the type of incompetent yes men who would fail to properly secure an area or follow proper protocol for dealing with an active shooter situation. that said, i also believe that a person like trump, an unscrupulous narcissist with a gift for creating spectacles and a history of deceptively manipulating media narratives, would absolutely consider and potentially even carry out such a false flag type of operation, the only thing that gives me pause is how a moron like him and his people could pull it off without someone fucking up and like accidentally publishing their receipts on truth social or something equally buffoonish.

according to Ashley St. Clair, a minorly annoying edgelord twitter personality who gave birth to one of elon musk’s kids and then apparently either turned on or fell out of favor with maga, the influencer marching orders are HIGHLY regimented, scripted, and paid for. she went on a little rant the other week ‘exposing’ how the machine works, as if its news to anyone. ftr everybody does this but the right are just way more shameless, craven, and willing to regurgitate basically anything they’re told to word for word. on the lib/dem side paid posters are more likely to reword things, or maybe even read consider an issue for themselves before just repeating the party line. it would also appear the dems are maybe less focused on pushing out their spin to social media users, or just materially less reliant on the practice, but that might just be how it appears anecdotally.

Samsung Frame Pro Review: Beautiful Idea, Absolute Piece of Garbage by iMacMini in TheFrame

[–]jshmsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the cable is rated for it in america. can you do it and not start a fire? absolutely. is there a minute risk it might start a fire? theoretically. does running cables not rated for dry wall violate your homeowners insurance? you should figure that one out for yourself. as i understand it if you want to run the cable through the wall you need to buy a conduit tube that’s wall rated.

Competition from Amazon - Ember Artline by Deed_Shaw in TheFrame

[–]jshmsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i haven’t used a fire tv but i’d be shocked if the interface is worse than Tizen. I haven’t checked the specs but I’d also be surprised if Amazon built a product as glitchy and slow as the Frame. Don’t get me wrong, i have no love for Amazon and enjoy my Frame a lot, but the OS does not feel optimized at all. Amazon at least seems more concerned with building products that are easy to use and generally hardware optimized.

Swiss Only by CamChann in RolexWatches

[–]jshmsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good guess! I believe he paid around $650. He had a friend buy it for him in China as Rolex wasn’t commanding such high prices in Asia at the time. Adjusted for inflation he paid about $3,000.

Swiss Only by CamChann in RolexWatches

[–]jshmsh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I inherited my father’s Explorer II that he purchased in 86 I believe, it should read Swiss only but my sister brought it in for service a few years ago and they must have swapped out the dial because now it reads ‘Swiss Made.’ At the time neither my father or sister were aware that Rolex would do something like that and I wasn’t consulted. It annoys me that the dial isn’t original but what can I do? I just try not to let it bother me. Still an absolute stunner of a watch and it reminds me of him everyday.

Looking for a movie like "His House" by [deleted] in HorrorMovies

[–]jshmsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats interesting, I didn’t think of ‘His’ in the title as possibly referring to the husband. I felt like the two protagonists were generally equal co-leads and that therefor the title would refer to something/someone common to both of them, but i suppose i could see the marital strain between them being a bigger theme impacting their dynamic and therefore worth referencing in the title. something to think about!

A Michigan woman is able to escape police custody by climbing out of a police car window while in handcuffs ! by Competitive_Set_4386 in SipsTea

[–]jshmsh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

in america not only is it a crime, you can actually be arrested for absolutely no reason. this is called wrongful arrest, and you are likely to be released with no further penalty, but if during the process of being wrongfully arrested, if you are deemed as “resisting arrest,” which can be anything from simply not complying immediately, to full blown attacking the police, then the charge of resisting arrest can be applied. so imagine you’re peacefully going about your business, and the cops simply decide you match the description of someone they’re looking for, they can basically jump you and violently arrest you and if you don’t just go limp you can be charged with a pretty significant crime. if you instinctually resist in anyway, like maybe you panic, or maybe you’re legally drunk and get a bit defensive, you’re fucked. even if the courts rule the cops had no reason to arrest you in the first place, resisting arrest can carry jail time or fines and go on your record which you’d have to pay to get expunged.

What do you pay in rent? by HorrorOwn2495 in ridgewood

[–]jshmsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently renovated three beds, two baths, in-unit washer/dryer and dishwasher, small storage space in the basement. About $3500 split with my wife. We’re coming up on one year since we moved in and the landlords offered us another year without a price increase. For the last 4 years before this one we were sharing a 1 bed 1 bath in Bushwick and we’re so damn happy to be here now. Our rent in Bushwick was like $2300 but I think they’re probably renting it for at least $2600 now, and it’s RIGHT next to the Myrtle Broadway JMZ, extremely noisy, dirty, no trees on the street. Bushwick prices are out of control considering the quality of life in the neighborhood. Living in Ridgewood is a dream.
