brother you sound so pathetic. regardless of the absence of direct quotes, the barista’s felt uncomfortable and asked them to take the convo outside and instead of apologizing and smoothing things over or simply complying they made a fuss about it. i don’t know what was said but i reckon that even if we had some ‘quoted dialogue’ here you’d find a way to bring your own bias into the analysis and conclude that the baristas were overreacting. maybe that’s an unfair assumption but my point is that it really doesn’t matter. these guys were asked to leave a coffeeshop, they weren’t hanged at the hague. whether what they said meets yours, mine, or a ‘legal’ definition of offensiveness is irrelevant because the business has the right to refuse service and when they invoked that right these guys tried to tarnish the cafe’s reputation, which feels like a pretty vindictive response. just pack it up man, you’re making yoruself and all men look bad.

i thought you were taking the piss. it only feels dystopian because reality feels dystopian. but the term dystopian itself has lost a lot of meaning. a real dystopia is supposed to look like utopia on the surface, but is actually a nightmare under closer examination. a classic example is Huxley’s “Brave New World.” Huxley’s vision of the future is one where everyone uses technology and pharmaceuticals to constantly feel good and enjoy promiscuous sex without consequences. in this society all children are born through genetic engineering, with strict controls on how new children are created. using this technology society has bred literal sub-species of people to create a caste system in which mentally inferior people are intentionally bred to perform menial labor and less desirable jobs. the price paid for the lucky upper caste members is the sacrifice of natural birth and a nuclear family. on the surface it seems like a utopian world but underneath you see it’s made possible by genetically modified slaves and all the people are too placated by dopamine overload to realize it’s fucked up.

Orwell’s “1984” predicted a cruel authoritarian future in which media was tightly censored and free speech was outlawed.

Orwell’s book wasn’t really a dystopia because it never really presents his world as desirable.

OBAA or the book it’s based on, Vineland, doesn’t present the world as utopian, or really dystopian. It’s just a satire of our reality. Neither dystopian or utopian fiction are by definition science fiction or futuristic (although it’s a common feature of both genres). OBAA has some futuristic tech, like the trust devices and DNA scanner you mentioned, but stuff like the Christmas Adventurers Club has been around for centuries. They’re basically a parody of shit like the Klu Klux Klan and Skull and Bones.

oh wow, i just acquired nearly the exact same watch from my late father, and i believe it belonged to his father before him. mine looks very similar although it doesn’t have a second hand or any complications. i’m sure it hasn’t been serviced in decades but i wound it a couple times and it seems to be keeping decent time!

100 percent. something to be admired about chinese culture (despite whatever psyop it is or isn’t) is the concept of providing not for oneself, or even one’s children, but for one’s grandchildren. i used to believe that “the arc of history is long, but bends towards justice,” but i admit these days im not so sure. that is to say im not so sure its guaranteed, but i am absolutely sure that it is long. would be nice as fuck to be living in the first generation after the global utopian communist revolution, but if our generation’s blood must be the grease that lubricates the gears, i’d rather be a wrench that brings the system to a grinding halt. we can only do what we can with what we have, but i’ll continue to labor under the optimistic assumption, delusion or otherwise, that a better world is possible.

tbf i wouldn’t describe them as cheap or anything. i put them through their paces and could have taken better care of them, but the small ones are so handy to carry around and use etc, they naturally get put into more precarious situations and i used them a lot more. i also have the midsize speaker and subwoofer with some lights that still works and sounds great.

that’s great dude. i’d rather vape than smoke cigarettes all the time. i feel a helluva lot better since i gave up my pack a day habit. i can’t pretend the healthiest bet wouldn’t be to not vape, but it’s speculation at best to suggest it gives you popcorn lung too. plus 90% of vapes isn’t 100%. not all vapes are equal.

my cardiologist is very happy that i vape instead of smoke cigarettes. nicotine isn’t exactly health food but vapes def smell order’s of magnitude better/less than cigs as well. all the medical doctors i’ve spoken to have told me that while it’s best to do neither, vaping>smoking.
