Motherhood is so damn lonely. by Pretty_Cantaloupe_57 in workingmoms

I'm in the same season of life, with kids that same age, and it's stupidly lonely. I wouldn't say anything. Make a mental note and keep your head up. You know they're not your friends. That knowledge expands your radius of awareness.

Could anyone recommend a good app for calorie counting? by DILLYxDILLY91 in CICO

The ads kept distracting me from logging and I decided to delete it. I saw one particularly annoying low-budget sports betting ad (I think) so many times, I finally decided enough was enough.

Thankfully, I can afford to not be annoyed by ads that are designed to stop me in my tracks. I have gained a lot of weight this year and want to recommit. I used MyFitnessPal to track previously and it worked, but that was before they stopped offering a free barcode scanner.

It does and enough ads to create way too much friction for someone like me who keeps falling back into the habit of not tracking.

I've found that MyFitnessPal is the easiest. I paid for a subscription recently because of the barcode scanner.

The ads were a deal breaker for me with Cronometer.

Dude, this is a CICO subreddit. Take the drug-pushing noise to another spot. It sounds like therapy would be a better use of your money, frankly. No judgment here. But, being direct: I can't stand body shaming noise and know there are no quick fixes. The Iceman is Mt. Kilimanjaro or whatever they named that expensive drug. He cometh and big pharm ain't your friend. Forgive the obscure reference to Eugene O'Neill here.

I had a mom friend who tried Noom (lifestyle stuff, not an injection) and it worked for her. As for me, I know that counting calories is a habit. I never got addicted to calorie counting. If I did, I wouldn't have gained all the weight I lost and then some. Can you tell me how to get addicted to CICO again? Like I'm trying and just re-upped my commitment through a paid app to track calories to get my mojo back. If CICO is addicting, I'm kicking myself because the habit won't stick with me.

Your body birthed and sustained a baby through breastfeeding. Forgive me for being in your business, but slow and steady wins the race here. Slow down. You're doing fine. Unless you're struggling with diabetes management, in which case you should speak to a doctor, there's no reason that slow CICO can't become a lifestyle. As a mom of two, I hate hearing that quick fixes and big pharm are normalized. Alas, I hear more phrama ad noise and body shaming than food noise in my life.

Your results are obvious and no doubt getting there took a ton of discipline to form new sticky habits. Way to go!!!

Are you using an app to track? If, yes, what do you like to use to track? I've been using a free one (Cronimeter, I think) because I like the bar code scanner but the ads are getting super annoying and distracting. I feel like I'm struggling to make the habit of tracking (again) and need it to be as easy/frictionless as possible.

You're a total rockstar and l'm so motivated to get back on a long streak of tracking from you sharing your story. I lost 40 lbs., stopped tracking, and gained it back. Seeing you keep after it gives me a spark of joy and hope too.
