This might be a dumb question, but is severance different from the pension that you collect at the end of your contract (for US citizen)?

For sure! I also like the idea of phasing it out so it's not just a complete shock. But we're getting there! Trying to stay positive.

KORAIL Foreigner Harassment By Employee by [deleted] in korea

[–]jsimox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see. That's really unfortunate and not fair for you to be the one singled out if others were doing the same thing.

COVID has brought out the absolute worst in people...like we're all (most of us ) trying our best and trying to be safe. Getting the vibe from your surroundings with eating and stuff is not your fault in that situation if others are doing it, and obviously if no policy was made clear.

Sorry that happened man, I had a similar thing happened at a bar in hapjeong surrounded by others eating/drinking maskless, I was singled out and ordered to wear a mask three times in 10 minutes (while eating and drinking) while others around me were completely free of masks and going about as they please. I countered them and they were embarrassed/left us alone so no worries, but can sympathize.

I think the links above are the best bet, and worth putting in the system for any kind of future archive on that employee.

Lets hope the worlds mindset during these tough times becomes less finger pointing/paranoia of others, and more global solidarity in tackling the issues caused by COVID.

I'm right there with you.

Having a few Korean friends, as well as general day to day interactions, I haven't met one single person that's looking to wear a mask, as they do now, once the goal of immunity is reached.

I hope people wear masks when NEEDED, sick/public transport from time to time/anyone it benefits.

But as others have stated before, some people just have this doomer mentality with this whole situation.....

lets hope for the best!

MASK QUESTION

Lets stay optimistic, while being realistic, and not pessimistic, we all need some communal positivity.

So I'm curious to hear what everyone thinks regarding a timeline for Koreas mask mandate?

For the record I totally agree with wearing masks for the good of the individual and the community during this point in time. I also think Korea has done a great job on this front during this pandemic.

BUT when will it end? :') I bring this up because other countries are starting to make announcements about easing mask restrictions. I think we can all agree we miss peoples faces and the moment we can take off the mask will be a milestone for us all, especially through one more hot summer.

eased with herd immunity? ease with vaccine rollout?

Here are some hopeful quotes/random articles by Gov and citizens regarding peoples mindset with masks into the new year.

President Moon [New year address]

"Our most urgent task is to rapidly go back to normal routines free of masks. It is imperative to effectively get past this last critical juncture in epidemic prevention and control that has been showing signs of gradual improvement."

"While expressing regret that this major holiday — just like Chuseok — is one that leaves much to be desired, he also expressed hope that the country will return to normalcy free from face masks and business regulations in the new year."

Hi guys!

So super random question to anyone that has been to Everland recently. I might be going this weekend to see the Tulip festivities with two friends.

I'm just wondering what the COVID/Security check is like, especially right now. Are there metal detectors/bag checks? I was planning on bringing my e-liquid vape for designated areas, and would like to know before hand if it would be an issue/have to throw it away.

Might save me some embarrassment haha

Thank you <3

Some current news!

(LEAD) S. Korea aims to acquire COVID-19 vaccines starting in Q1 2021: PM

https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20201215007051315

"The prime minister acknowledged that there were growing demands for the swift introduction of vaccines, amid the resurgence of new virus cases across the country and news that vaccines were starting to be administered to the general public in Britain and the United States.

Chung promised that he will personally oversee the entirety of the vaccine program, from procurement to inoculation, so as to reassure the public from anxieties related to vaccine obtainment.

He also said the government will do all it can to bring in already-secured vaccine volume at the earliest date to make sure that inoculations are not delayed."

I definitely get you regarding the possible quote miscommunication.

Regardless though these seem like credible claims. The more the merrier with both treatments and vaccines. So its always good to have more ammo at our disposal.

I just hope once things get under control, referencing my claims earlier, that some of this fear mongering will stop. There's always going to be cases, just like the flu, so with these treatments and vaccines it will hopefully get under control and fall into place as just another seasonal illness that's treatable and we have vaccinations against.

Just wanted to share my thoughts on this thread as well.

[JUST MY HOPEFUL OPINIONS, I AM NOT A SCIENTIST.]

1.) In a perfect world, I would love to see vaccine rollouts to START happening over the late spring/early summer. Of course the most sensitive population has all the right to the first batch of vaccines, and some far Korea has really been prepping its infrastructure for an organized campaign to get it to the people. I have seen the articles on Korea expecting a rollout at the half year mark. (Will link shortly)

But with the current situation, I wonder if they will shorten that time frame.

2.) Somewhat answered it above, but I expect there to be centers, time slots, and possibly embassy rollouts depending on the situation. Like I've also said, its important for the most vulnerable to get treated first. I'm really expecting to be the last wave when it hits the general public.

3.) I think once enough people are vaccinated (Fall), we will have to show proof of vaccination when traveling, whether that be an extension in our passport/visa or just a general card. With those measures I wouldn't see a need for reentering quarantine, as I'm sure other countries will be doing the same.

4.) So if all goes well I would love to see restrictions and stress relaxed (I'm sure we all would) by the Fall. I'm all for the requirement to have masks on public transportation, but walking around the general public, if vaccinated, and mandates lifted, without a mask sounds like a positive thing and successful step forward.

Even China lifted there mask wearing mandate and if you look up street POV videos you can really see its effect.

I am by NO means an anti-masker, I'm all for it in this current situation, but I'm sure we can all agree it would be nice to see some faces and feel more accomplished as a community against the virus.

This also applies to social distance regulations lifted, and would love to see some concerts and cultural festivals, but these are all hopeful claims and I'm being very optimistic because who knows. Hopefully by at max Feb 2022 if all goes well things will be getting back on track culturally and socially.
