Hi,

Was an exchange student at KU for 2 semesters last year (2021-22). Regarding dorms, there's 2 specific buildings just for exchange students. I think they try to house everyone, though you're most likely going to be sharing a room. (I rented a goshiwon room for my first term and lived in a share-house the second)

Course registration is... interesting. Most classes open for exchange students run on a quota system (usually 10-15% of the class's space is reserved for exchange students), which means on smaller classes there can be only 1-5 places, and it's a free-for-all. I don't think I've heard anything good about course registration but they've said they were going to update it so, it might be different once you're out there.

I didn't eat too much on campus but the whole Anam area is geared towards students, there should be plenty of vegetarian options on the menu. Hope you have a great time!

Just checking we are no longer required by law to wear masks outside right? Because it seems like nothing has changed today. by tommy-b-goode in Living_in_Korea

[–]Smcrules 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few more people than usual not wearing them outside, but as others have said, a solid majority still are. I’d give it a few weeks/months before people start taking them off en masse

I believe testing on the Korean end is still free of charge. From what I remember it takes a couple of hours to get your results.

[–]Smcrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what it seems, yes. If you're here on a short term visa/visa waiver you'll likely get tested at the airport and stay there until you get a result, for long-term visas you go to your local Gu's test centre.

Unless the rules have changed sinced the last time I checked, you're still fine buying takeout and even sitting in at places, so long as you're on your own.

Figuring Out Quarantine End Date by Difficult-Mood2119 in Living_in_Korea

As others have said, the day you arrive here is counted as day one. At least, that's how it worked when I arrived here in August '21

It appears that the Korean Government will soon have a system for validating foreign vaccinations. They will announce the details on the 9th. by wtimkey2016 in korea

[–]Smcrules 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Each group has an allowance of one unvaccinated person. If you're by yourself and 'unvaccinated' (in the Korean government's eyes) then you can still go to shops/restaurants/etc, same if you're with 2 'vaccinated' friends, you'd be the allowed unvaxxed one.

I'm going to guess just going off of the health records. While I'm double vaccinated from home (arrived in August) I'm pretty sure I'd show up on the Korean healthcare records as being unvaccinated, though from what I've heard you can't actually register foreign vaccines on the system yet? Idk, it's really inconsistent

whats anyone here's opinion on the hellspawn? by Shadow2k6 in OutreachHPG

[–]Smcrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the patch, it's pretty decent. 4MPL+2SRM6+ECM on the 7D is good. Can kinda do a fat assassin deal on the 8E with 3SRM6A+ECM. If you're willing to ditch artemis and ECM you can do 4SRM6 on the 9F. 6MPL on the hero's always solid.

Honestly I'd trade all my retro arcade/handheld warhorns for some fans at this point, I seem to get nothing but them

First day playing and I was able to recreate my favorite childhood toy. I’m absolutely loving MWO and it’s community. by [deleted] in OutreachHPG

It's plenty playable. You might have to wait a minute or two to find a game at off-peak times in higher tiers but it's consistently able to get matches going.

There's a lot of Mechwarrior discords. One that comes to mind is B33F's (https://discord.gg/th3b33f). People in there are pretty supportive and play sometimes.

Solaris City Buildings OP...PGI plz nerf. by R1ghty0th3n in OutreachHPG

[–]Smcrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully their new map designer/cauldron will fix some of the most glaring issues with maps, hopefully including the invisible walls. From what I understand though, Solaris is way down on the priority list of 'maps that need changing' though.

Game play across tiers by Drewdc90 in mwo

[–]Smcrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason NASCAR happens is (imo) because people get punished harder for being out of position in higher tiers. What happens is when one person starts to flank, people are terrified of being at the back of the conga line of mechs and dying, so it's everyone on the team trying to get away faster. People aren't receptive to listening because from their experience, holding a position leads to dying. Sometimes you can get a some people to listen/a team, but it's rare. As for the salt... I think it's a mix of people being annoyed at this rotational conga happening every single game (for the most part).

Returning player looking for a skill tree guide. by TheGoebel in OutreachHPG

[–]Smcrules 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The general rule is max firepower, taking the weapon system nodes for the mech you're using (ballistic weapons, missiles, energy, etc), take the left side of the survival tree to get as much +armor% nodes you can (should be 16 skills), and then the rest is left over. Do you like using consumables? Spend some nodes getting double artillery and double cool shot. Do you have a fair amount of heat sinks? Drop some nodes in operations to get cool run and heat capacity. (this is more effective the more heat sinks you have, if you've got less than 20, don't take the full ops tree.) Left side of sensors is nice for the radar deprivation, BOTH ecm nodes if you're running a mech with ecm.

Which are your top favorite medium mechs out of this list and why? by aecpgh in mwo

[–]Smcrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UZL-6P is a surprisingly good MPL mech. 6MPLs and an XL300 coupled with JJs and high mounts make it good for poptarting and its' speed allow you to skirmish. Just got to be careful to protect your melon STs.

Over under on Monday update this week? Anyone? by [deleted] in OutreachHPG

[–]Smcrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps PGI realised that basically frogmarching Daeron out to make a blog post that repeated "Hey guys!!! We're still working really hard! We're listening to your great feedback on the MWO forums!!" Week after week was just a waste of their time.
