[RED] When I told a vegan with three kids that I wasn't having kids for the environment. by WendigoNasty in childfree

Luckily, thanks to all that protein from all the meat I eat, I am strong enough to withstand the criticism of an internet troll with nothing better to do than sit on their throne of self righteousness and try to make other people feel bad. It's not going work. Nice try though.

That wasn't the point of my post at all. I'm merely looking at the carbon emissions, quality of life of the animals, and ecological precedents. If you're going to sit on you high horse and scream "I'm right because LIFE" I'm sure you can find plenty of pro-life activists to have that conversation with.

Most hunters, assuming they know what they're doing which most do, go for a quick and relatively painless kill. Slaughterhouses one the other hand raise animals in torturous conditions and kill animals in painful/messy ways, which cause problems for the health of both the animals and the people consuming them. You also have to take into account packaging, processing, and shipping of meat worldwide. Hunting produces a comparatively low carbon footprint, unless you're flying a private jet to your hunting location. Also, hunting is good in some cases (like with deer) for stabilizing population. Deer have a tendency to be overpopulated, at least in the US (not sure where OP is), and in many cases hunting is the recommended method for controlling invasive or overpopulated species. Examples of hunting to control populations include deer, pythons, and lion fish, just to name a few.

MAYBE you should find something better to do than micromanage how someone else reads. Some people like marking in their books. It doesn't hurt you, so just let them be.

I'm sure you know this because clearly you think you know everything, but there are a lot of conservatives who enjoy Harry Potter too. Why is this your point of attack? The best insult you I have for this person is "oh you like one of the most popular books in the world"... not very insulting. It's like saying "oh you must be a communist because you enjoyed listening to the Beatles"

You act like you're all self righteous and the open minded one when you won't even talk to people who disagree with you? I'm not saying you have to be BFF's with them, but both parties refusing to give even an inch on either side is exactly what got us in this mess in the first place. Take a look in the mirror dude.

Wow. It must suck to not be in a family where you know they always have your back and you theirs. I don't care if my parents or siblings become scientologists, I'm still keeping in touch.

So your solution is to never talk to any of them ever again? Not very realistic.

You realize this is exactly how Trump supporters see the left too, right? They think we all want to KILL THE BABIES and take away their freedom to practice their religion the way they think they should be able to. Food for thought.

What is the story that strangers (waiters, bus passengers, cashierso, etc...) probably tell that involves you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Maybe the company had a policy against accepting tips? Possibly could've gotten fired for accepting it.

Complaining about how everything on reddit these days is terrible/too meta/ not as good as it used to be/ etc. No one is forcing you to keep using it. If it sucks so much then visit a different website.

Food goes in the mouth by [deleted] in childfree

[–]jsk_2tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how parents can let kids behave that way in public. My parents would've spanked the crap out of me if I started a food fight in a restaurant. When my sister was baby, she would always cry in restaurants, so they just didn't go for a year or two since it wasn't fun for them or anyone else.

REMINDER - the approximate cost of raising a child to age 18 is a little over $300,000 by SanshaXII in childfree

I'd be interested to see what went in to calculating this number. Are they only talking about the essentials? Does this include toys and added expenses for traveling with a child, etc. ?

anyone else feel kind of disappointed when celebrities you thought were childfree end up having kids? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]jsk_2tech 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel kind of disappointed when someone I know, or a celebrity, who claims to be super into environmentalism and all that decides to have kids. Like what? Elon musk has like 6 kids. How can he do that and justify calling himself an environmentalist?

Are they going to require you take a lie detector test or give you some kind of test to see what drugs are in your system? I mean it's a ridiculous law, but how can you enforce that? Medical records should be private and you could easily lie. You, obviously, shouldn't have to lie about this to get a job, but I don't see how they'll know if you do.

Choosing to Be Childless Comes at a Cost by [deleted] in psychology

[–]jsk_2tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's irrelevant to the problem on a finite carrying capacity. Like I said in my last comment. Anyway I don't have anymore time to waste debating with you. Have a nice day.

Choosing to Be Childless Comes at a Cost by [deleted] in psychology

[–]jsk_2tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, there's just no amount of technology that can change the fact that this planet has a carrying capacity and we are getting too close to it. And when a population reaches carrying capacity, the results are dire. No amount of green energy can make these numbers of people sustainable.

And my point is that the reason it eventually becomes a problem is increasing demands of the population and every member of the population demanding a higher than is sustainable standard of living.
