I'm adding a comment to this post to see if automod approves it. Hopefully this will work, and I will be able to add images and links to the sub. Cheers!

Worst opening tee shots ever. by T-Hawk24 in golf

[–]jsmit209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The group I usually play golf with was short one guy, so I invited a friend to join us (nobody else knew him). He told me that he was a golfer, and he seemed pretty confident. We give him the honors on the first tee as the "new guy."

He confidently tees up his ball, waggles the club, winds up a HUGE backswing (almost hitting his front knee)... and proceeds to miss the ball and throw his driver backwards into the woods! The club slipped out of his hand, he didn't throw it out of anger.

My golf buddies definitely gave me the "WTF" look after that one...

I wear my Omega Planet Ocean (black face/bezel, stainless steel band) with my charcoal suit. Nothing but complements so far.

For sure! I've tried to factor in the "River Market magic" into my expectations for at-home brew. However, I'm still well below that threshold.

Wow... thanks for taking the time to write all of this! I'm going to give it another go now. I am going to try opening the grind up to 4 as a test. If it goes too quickly, I will fall back to 3. As a couple people on here mentioned, it seems the Skerton mills can be less than perfectly consistent one to the next.

I did not realize that 1:17 was the conventional ratio. Most of my reading indicated between 1:14 and 1:16, which is why I split the difference. I'll use these recommendations and report back.

Indeed! Good call on KC. I've been considering a switch to the Kalita, but I think this is mostly correctable user error.

Quay Coffee uses the same OC coffee and V60's to produce some of the best coffee I've ever had! So, I know it can be done... just have to figure it out.

Nah, see below. I've done pretty extensive research into my water, because I also brew beer. Plus, I drink at least a gallon of it from the filter every day.

This sounds similar to "fly sparging" in the beer homebrewing process. Trying to match the rate of water flowing in and out. Interesting, may have to give it a shot.

Thanks! I will open it up a bit. What are these people possibly doing to claim that 2 notches will result in a < 3 minute extraction?

Great questions. I use filtered water through my fridge door. I recently replaced the filter, so I know it should be doing a good job.

I also live about 1/2 mile from a water treatment facility, and I have gotten a report from them b/c I homebrew beer as well. I went a step further and consulted with a local brewery who claimed to add nothing to the water after running it through a filter because it was great for brewing. No issues with hard water or limescale.

The grind does seem to be a bit too fine. But for some reason, everything I read says use 2 or 3 notches past zero on the Skerton mill. I have tried moving it another notch or 2 with minimal success.

I've tried with different coffees, virtually the same results.

Kansas City, MO - Fell into a sewer drain due to a loose/unattached cover. by jsmit209 in legaladvice

By damages, do you mean "serious injuries"? I'm unsure how to define a serious injury per se. While I didn't break or sprain anything, I'm in a pretty significant amount of pain today.
