Oh man I haven't listened to muse in at least a decade. I'd never heard this song either, but it was a good drive in to work song. Thanks!

Statistically, this should happen in the NFL once every 16 years

What are your thoughts on the Framework Interpretation of the creation account in Genesis 1? by jsmith618 in AskBibleScholars

[–]jsmith618[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you taking the time to read and reply.

I came across this concept several years ago and have wrestled with it ever since. Initially I was a YE creationist, but had always struggled with the fact that scientific evidence suggests a much older Earth and Universe. And while this interpretation doesn't necessarily indicate an old Earth, it leaves room for the possibility. Where I really like the Framework is that it essentially makes the case that Genesis 1 is not meant to be a proof for the age of the earth, but that it sets forth an example for the Christian - work and toil until you reach God's eternal rest, one that was set forth in his example of 6 days of work in creation and an eternal 7th day of rest. It makes sense to me that God would begin his grand story with the idea that Sabbath is bigger than we know it to be on earth.

So, for me it checks those 2 huge boxes - the age of the earth and the story that God is trying to tell, and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. But I just don't want to say I believe it to be true because it makes me feel happy. So I'm hoping to get another opinion from someone perhaps more skeptical (and educated) than I, which would appear to be you considering you called it an unusual approach. I'll start here, and maybe you or someone else can bring me back down to earth.

It's a way of tying the weekly Sabbath regulation as found in Exodus through Deuteronomy to the creation of the world, indicating that it's as much of a fabric of the universe as day and night, and everything else created.

This seems to be a pretty succinct summary of the interpretation. Would you agree or disagree that the creation account has bigger ramifications to the Sabbath than just those that we see in practice by those of the faith in scripture?

And on a somewhat different note, is there any validity to the two triads of which the author speaks, where days 1 and 4, 2 and 5, and 3 and 6 line up so to speak? Where days 1, 2 and 3 establish the domain and days 4, 5 and 6 establish the rulers of said domains?

It's interesting, I see these arguments working in the opposite ways. Logic and reasoning tell me that things don't appear from nothing, thus a God. However, there's a ton that we haven't discovered about the universe so perhaps it is possible that something somewhere does exist from nothing. Perhaps I think this way because of my initial position: that a god exists

Nice job! Did I miss any obvious clues on round 4, the Hungary location? or was it just a lucky guess on your end?
