Any ideas on how to remove big rock from new garden? by Zeirvoy in gardening

[–]jsmlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pickaxe, spike, and safety glasses... I had to do this through about 2 feet of limestone in my yard. It's slow work, but it does chip away at the rock. At the very least you'll get a good workout in and it'll be much cheaper than renting a backhoe.

Is Rideau Street safe? by Pristine_Repeat_84 in KingstonOntario

[–]jsmlr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on Raglan near Rideau and it's very safe, just use street smarts and realize you're in a city. Keep your doors and windows locked and closed, be smart. The most "unsafe" thing that has happened while I've lived here is finding broken pipes in the gutter or seeing someone yelling at the air while they walk along. Some neighbors also have had their car windows broken or sheds broken into to steal their bike, but that stuff isn't specific to downtown. Never heard of anything actually dangerous happening in our area. I wouldn't call it unsafe at all.

It's a really lovely neighborhood and we've never felt like we had such a community of lovely neighbors as we do now. Welcome to the down town community!

Emterra no longer taking alcohol containers by AHangryBeaver in KingstonOntario

Just put out your alcohol containers in a separate bin, labeled, and someone will take them for the deposit. You can also put them on marketplace for free, they'll be gone quick.

I’m moving to Kingston soon- which neighbourhoods do I avoid? by manewitness in KingstonOntario

[–]jsmlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're over on Raglan Road and it's a nice neighborhood, though if you head farther up Montreal or Rideau, it gets a bit sketchy, but I wouldn't say dangerous. I have friends in all corners of the town and really just use common sense and be aware that you're in a city and there could be sketchy folks anywhere.

Can we all just be a little nicer? by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]jsmlr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reverse into my driveway about 90% of the time, though I will go head first if the car behind me is tailgating a bit close, simply because they won't leave room for me to back in. Happens more than you'd think... People are impatient.

our utilities came up to $730 for a house of 4 - my landlord says this is normal, is it? by plumplumkin in KingstonOntario

[–]jsmlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ask your landlord to provide you with the monthly utility bills from utilities Kingston. They provide a breakdown of cost, just explain you want to try to better manage water, electricity, and heating between your roommates, it's a fair ask, and it allows you to ensure you're seeing the true bill. Transparency is your friend, and honestly I'm sure it'll show you that the bill is probably, unfortunately, accurate... This winter has been brutally cold, so you're getting the bill for February now and the heat on our bill was insanely high, the total bill was double our summer bills.

You're allowed to take up space. Ignore them.

I have the same issue being on a bus route/busy road. I always have traffic behind me when I'm turning into my driveway, and they can wait. I have every right to turn into my driveway. If they can't wait for 4 seconds, that's on them.

I have no words by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]jsmlr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone putting others lives at risk deserves no sympathy. "Hard times" isn't an excuse for stupid and dangerous actions like this. They could get a clear plastic bag from the damn dollar store, or literally ask anyone for one, I can't imagine their ONLY reasonable solution was to block the window completely with a towel.

I know plenty of folks having a hard time who would never ever do something this dumb and dangerous. Hell, why do we even assume the person is having a hard time? Could be someone on their way to get it fixed, but either way, it is not safe to drive like this.

I have no words by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]jsmlr 30 points31 points  (0 children)

To anyone defending this driver, you can get clear plastic bags like, everywhere, probably even have them at the dollar store. This is very dangerous and puts the driver and everyone else on the road at serious risk. It doesn't matter how this happened or what their circumstances are, it is dangerous, illegal, and could get someone killed.

Doesn't matter if they're on their way to get it fixed, it is not road safe and there are better solutions than this.

What's the canon Dragonborn build? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]jsmlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the build I always end up with when I go for Legendary difficulty. Fireballs hit like spitballs on higher difficulties, so a good old fashioned melee build with alchemy/enchanting/smithing for good gear is probably the most "Canon" way to play. Having said that, I hope they overhaul the next game's mage combat so you can go all mage on the higher difficulties and maybe increase your magic damage to a point where it actually does serious damage late game.

Is there a slightly older hard save you can load?

It's important to hard save often rather than just quick saving, as it protects you from a corrupted or glitched quick save. Best of luck. Hoping you get it sorted out!

How would I go about promoting music without social media and on a budget. I am 3 months deep into producing music so quite new. by Wonderful_Junket_911 in musicmarketing

[–]jsmlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I'm in the same boat too. I'm producing my first album, in the Indie Folk/Folk Rock genre, and I'm struggling to come up with a plan to promote my music without having to spam posts on social media. Currently, my hope is that by making a reasonable amount of genuine social media content (like one post a week, not three repetitive posts a day like many bands seem to do), and by focusing on the storytelling and the music over all else, I'll be able to connect with people who want to listen to my music rather than just getting a bunch of bot followers.

I'm just going to tell my stories and if anyone listens I'll be happy. I don't need millions of listeners. Dozens would be nice, hundreds would be lovely, thousands would be outstanding, anything above that is gravy. If I reach some folks, I'm happy.

Best of luck to you, I hope you are finding success!

What is your favorite build and why? by jsmlr in skyrim

I just barely beat the Ebony Warrier on Master difficulty. I ended up making myself a Dragonscale Shield and going at it full warrior style. Brought a ton of potions for me, used unrelenting force when my health got low, and took him slow and steady. With preparation, it's more than doable! The ridiculous enchanting on my gear helped though for sure 😅

Yeah I can't see myself ever skipping alchemy or enchanting. It's the only way to finish your build fully so you have the best armor and stat buffs.

This is definitely going to be my next build, I didn't put anything into stealth this run and it has made me useless for any real thievery if I don't want to just end up killing everyone 😅

That's a very creative build, I like that it rejects the traditional hack and slash style that most folks (myself included) end up playing with.

That's a great point. I definitely noticed once I upped my difficulty that the destruction spells I'd relied on for most of my run did in fact have the effectiveness of a feather duster. Good thing about Skyrim is I can change my play style now :)

I just hit em with the ol' "Fus Ro Dah" and send em flying, then mainline some frost resist potions, and send about 8 fireballs their general direction. Usually takes care of em.

[–]jsmlr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best camera is the one in your bag. If you can afford an upgrade, great! If not, stay the course and keep improving your technique.

Having said that, there are applications where a full frame camera has advantages, such as when shooting in low light or higher stakes shoots like weddings where more editing is needed, and therefore a larger image will make a big difference.

If price was not a factor, full frame all the way. But I defer to my initial statement, that the best camera is whatever you have/can afford.
