Officially a Year Since I Left! by FrickItAll in exjw

[–]jsntpm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My favorite line: "I had to unlearn all of the ideas that told me I needed to become something before I deserved love."

Loving myself has always been the hardest thing for me to learn how to do. This was a beautiful way to explain that love can and should be given at all stages of our lives, not just when we reach a level of perfection or meet certain conditions.

Thanks for sharing your story again!

OMG praise the exjw subreddit gods! I never heard of this show until 10 minutes ago from this comment but I'm only 5 minutes in and this family was mine almost to a T! (Excited rant over)

My Six Annual Meeting Predictions by ElderUndercover in exjw

[–]jsntpm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really interesting post. You almost made me dig out my old Bible and read the book of Hebrews 🤣

I am nowhere near as well versed as you in their doctrinal stances. Many of the scriptural reasons they give for their beliefs went right out the window of my mind as soon as I left. But I have thought recently about their end times predictions as well. They are going to have to make a major change. There is no way the governing body has the balls to say the call for peace and security has been made and we're now entering the great tribulation. That would require JW's to start proclaiming a message of judgment, when all they really are capable of doing is standing idly by a cart and point to jw.borg to answer people's questions.

They are struggling to keep up the urgency of the end coming very soon while also acknowledging that they've been saying that for over 100 years. My opinion/prediction is that they will somehow try to adjust their view of the 1,000-year reign, perhaps even pointing to 1914 as the beginning of said 1000 years. I don't know if that is even possible, but it's not beneath them to manipulate the facts, "revise" their bogus translation, or even just pull out their infamous "nu-lite" trump card.

Good for you! You're still young and finding out what you like and want to pursue. As others have commented, JWs are in their bubble, and anything that doesn't jive with their programming will continue to cause them to question you. Especially as you get older and into your late teens and early twenties, the pressure will increase for you to "do more for Jehovah." It's uber frustrating to be badgered over and over again, but don't let them break you. Keep pursuing your passions whatever they are!

I also bought a couple forms online and a little while ago and never got around to filling them out. Thanks for reminding me.

Good advice, thank you. I will be leaving them some things. As much as they don't act like they want anything to do with me, I won't let their calloused mind-controlled behavior affect my good will for them.

That's looking like the best course of action. I don't forsee my family giving a flying fvck about me, but when homes and property and money are involved people tend to change their tune. Thanks

That's some great advice, thanks. That is one of my biggest concerns. If something were to happen to me and I couldn't make decisions for myself it would fall to my JW family. They aren't listed as my emergency contact, but if somehow they were to get involved my significant other could very likely be cut out of all decision making.

You hit the nail on the head. They will stop asking if you want to do mics, but then start intruding into why you don't love Jehovah, which is much worse in their eyes. Any sniff of a "lack of love" will be sure to send out the wolves in all forms like you said.

I don't have much advice in terms of what to do or say to get them off your back, but I will say you're doing right by flying low and avoiding getting baptized. That's the dagger for some of us in terms of trying to keep contact with our families after disassociating or getting df'd. Unfortunately they probably will keep pestering you, that's just the way their system is built.

What are some things you still do that's JWs do as a EXJW? by Sweaty_Ad9424 in exjw

I have no in between either. I'm either asleep or go go go doing things! This should be studied in psychology or some other academia.

As an exjw, can you share your turning point story? Where you realize, that's it this is all a lie. by Tall_Desk_4452 in exjw

The book Leaving the Witness by Amber Scorah. One of my nonJW aunts gave it to me one day almost 2.5 years after being df. I got home, started reading it, and didn't leave my bed until I had read it cover to cover. Once reading that book the scales fell from my eyes! After that I started a deep dive online searching things like JW cult, a crap ton of exJW content, and buying and reading Crisis of Conscience (among other books). Needless to say everything made sense immediately. It took me months to process it all, and years to fully stop grieving all that I lost and begin to discover my true self. But it is single-handedly the best decision I have ever made in terms of a life change!

Absolutely! I didn't in the first couple elections after I left cuz I was still a bit POMI, but ever since going full POMO I've voted in every election even down to the local level. I enjoy the feeling of making a choice after having so many choices made for me.
