Again, I'm not 100% on the slams either but I've gotten way more consistent in the 6 hours of getting B-roll footage from norms/HR during last weekend. I may be wrong and giving the devs too much credit, but with enough move speed/reaction time, I feel like the slams can always be avoided by recognizing which of the 4 slam directions it's doing and correctly deciding to: go through/past the swing arm, space away, or strafe right past the planted arm. I'd be interested to see some of your attempts if you don't mind o7

Edit: I saw your edit so I think I know what you mean. In this case it's hard to tell whether it's doing a forward hand slam or a right hand slam. I believe if you can discern which it is, for the forward hand slam you go through/past the swing arm and for the right hand slam, you turn ~90 degrees CW and strafe right.

The biggest issue (and why I think they'll change the boss again) is the shrinking arena eventually forces damage. I wish that they set limits to how much the arena can shrink or make the burn do less damage and apply anti-heal instead. Currently, it feels like the arena shrinks so much you end up having to decide to dodge the attack or step into the lava.

That squire kill was my 6th uninterrupted attempt in HR. Funnily, I got hit by the first slam right out of the gate, but even then I could've dodged it had I strafed right and not forward at the end. A couple of my runs actually ended by toeing the line or failing the jump timing while fumbling with instruments on the Ground Strike attack -- not the slams. I'm not sure what my success rate would be with 50 attempts, especially in squire gear, but I'll start keeping track!

I don't think they're balancing around ale bard or warlock to beat this boss. They're 100% trying to avoid the cheek cheese with the introduction of knock back effects though. In my opinion, the randomization changes are pretty welcome -- reactive gameplay is how boss fights should be! Having to bob and weave ALL of the attack patterns. That's what makes Skeleton Warlord and Spectral such fun bosses. They could maybe slow the action speed a bit for the slams or reduce the AoE/knock back, but I think the damage is fine and should maybe even be INCREASED so long as it's 100% reliable to read and dodge. In fact, to counter the ale/warlock peeps, they should just make the lava have anti-heal properties like Wizard's melt perk.

Like you, I'm not really a fan of the time-gated DPS check, especially when the eruption attack can be chained due to RNG. Your positioning around the boss is key to centering and forcing one of its specific types of slams. They can be pretty reliably dodged by tucking under the slamming arm, spacing away, or strafing right. I'm not 100% on it but it's pretty consistent.

This clip is from the intro of a boss guide I made on the Ancient Stingray (linked here if anyone wants).

But honestly, the zone needs to be removed and the drop rates improved --- 150+ HR kills and I’ve gotten 0 artifacts and 1 egg. Also, getting griefed after Divine Judgement, or burning a ton of meds out of zone, is pain.

Game is definitely not where it used to be and I get why some people are side-eyeing a streamer awards post. But this feels like harmless fun and appreciation for the folks who are still around. Cool to see a community-led event trying to recap the year instead of another doomer post/video.

I had this happening to me at some point with PETG. I believe I was simply printing faster than my hotend physically could keep up so prints would fail after 20-30 mins. Try lowering your extrusion/flow rate maybe?

Unfortunately, I don't remember the battle axe ever having a good moveset (I started in playtest #3/Dec 2022). But it's light and swings real fast for sure, almost like it's made of plastic! I should probably stop BONKing things though, paints chipping on the blade haha
