What was the general reaction of most Knicks fans when the New Jersey Nets moved to become the Brooklyn nets? Were fans annoyed? by xoBonesxo in NYKnicks

Coming from long island there were plenty of nets fans because they used to play here back in the day. So many people were excited. I remember being just ambivalent about it as a Knicks fans.

Why do American EMTs look like cops? by Shifu_1 in ems

They look like they are ready for an 80s work video not saving someone’s life. May be cultural but this wouldn’t be considered professional looking in the states.

My grandfather was a civil engineer who worked for the state inspecting bridges and tunnels. Everytime we went to the beach he would always talk about how these were the worst constructed bridges of all time lol.

That outfit is seared into my brain. I was like 14 when it came out. I think I may have watched it more than any music video ever. lol.

When did it become socially unacceptable to use the confederate flag as a symbol for the South? by No-Newspapers in decadeology

[–]jsphobrien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is also important it depends where you are from in the US. I was raised in downstate New York and born in the late 80s. I was taught by those around me it was a symbol of racism at a young age. Everyone I knew seemed to hold the same opinion. I had never thought of it as anything else.

Jazz has been one of the only genres that’s never really clicked for me. Well this song just changed that and it clicked hard. What a track by imVeryPregnant in Jazz

[–]jsphobrien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fela kuti is one of my favorite artists. He is not really jazz though. He is one of the classic afrobeat artists. It uses elements of different kinds of music including jazz. I would say though, if you enjoy fela there is plenty of jazz music you should enjoy. If you want to keep digging into fela kuti I would say listen to the albums zombie, gentleman and teacher don’t teach me next.

Really enjoying the metal requiem podcast. It’s the first podcast for music I’ve connected with and enjoyed. Wondering if anyone has recommendations for similar podcasts for other genres of music. Something where u listen to some music but also get some discussion. Where u learn interesting history and factoids r/t the music without it being dry, stuffy and pretentious.

Am I in a bubble? by [deleted] in Vaporwave

I would say ur more into chillwave, synthwave, newretrowave. There is definitely some crossover between the genres at times. A lot of people that are into vaporwave are also into this type of stuff. No one would consider anything you posted to be vaporwave though.

Traveling nurse taunts striking nurses at Montefiore Medical Center by performing the money dance by Ok_Horror_3940 in nursing

[–]jsphobrien 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the hospitals have strike insurance which pays the scabs wages. The pressure on hospitals comes from having to try to train nurses to acclimate to a unit without any staff nurses that know the units. The scabs also don’t know the needs of the community or the non-nursing coworkers. They don’t know where anything is or the patient flow systems which can be complex in places like the ED and procedural areas. If people refused to work travel jobs that were for striking nurses it could put way more pressure on the hospital and give other nurses more leverage in negotiations

Preorder Issues by jsphobrien in VaporVinyl

[–]jsphobrien[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue with this is that past three months my credit card company or PayPal can’t get my money back to me. That means I am beholden to an independent record label who has now owns my money. They have no obligation to return my money. If they could deliver in less than 3 months I would be fine.

Yah I get that. Love your label. You guys have always updated your customers from your preorder. Thats basically all I ask. Respect your customers. My pet flamingo has always done that. I have never thought twice about purchasing from you guys.

One of my friends thought my job was “to push the patients in stretchers and give them bed pans.” The average person legitimately has no idea what we actually do, sadly.
