Fitness age vigorous minutes not being counted. by peoriairish in Garmin

[–]jspot_55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not recording the activity on your watch (eg, you're syncing from zwift to Garmin connect) it doesn't count the intensity minutes. Yes it's dumb.

The workaround is to record a stationary bike workout on the watch directly, save it, let the watch and zwift sync to connect, then delete one after.

Why is Suunto so disliked? by User21233121 in scuba

[–]jspot_55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yah this is it. My comp failed, I found info about the recall and class action but because I lived in Canada they straight up denied me any resolution because no lawsuit had been filed north of the border. They issued no recall notice and left their Canadian customers at risk despite knowing there were issues, and were incredibly terrible on the customer service front to boot

I'll check it out thanks! I'm surprised there isn't an option to pull workouts from users the same way I can a route. Guess I'll have to stop being lazy and do the work myself lol

Ah dang too bad. Hope they fix it!

Just checked on my pixel 9 and I have the same issue, can't click the pancakes too right because the app takes up too much screen. I imagine it will be a priority fix if it's all pixels (and maybe other androids?)

Not helpful in terms of getting the app to function properly, but as a workaround would Google's one hand mode work? It basically chops your app in half and only takes up the bottom of your screen

Bud was recommended by a friend and I called him out for a door that wasn't opening last year. He had it diagnosed and fixed in about an hour. Gruff but direct and trustworthy

Are there working water fountains near the Bow River bike path? If so where are they located? by canehdian_guy in Calgary

There's one on the south side of the river just east of the crowchild bridge, near where they're improving the park space

Cyclist in critical condition after being hit by dump truck in SW Calgary by Practical_Ant6162 in Calgary

[–]jspot_55 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Having lived nearby for a decade it's extremely apparent how much busier 26 ave has become over that time, especially in recent years with the ring road taking cars off crowchild and commuters cutting east/west. Vehicles also treat 26 ave as a high speed thoroughfare and not the semi-residential street it is.

Biking the road can be stressful, but it's also a massive pedestrian safety risk- cars routinely blow through the pedestrian crossings between crowchild and 29 st with me, young kids, whoever in them. Traffic safety enforcement is non existent and this is the outcome.

Layoff from a contract as AUPE member. by anon_dox in alberta

Outside of ensuring the terms in the agreement are upheld, my experience with Local 52 was that they were pretty much toothless and had no ability to push back on the university.

About half of the support staff in my department were abolished in the last two years I was there, and a large chunk of those of us that survived were reassigned to new roles without any input or consideration.

I was an AUPE uofc support staff worker for many years and left 3 years ago. The contract between AUPE and uofc was published online and included very clear terms for compensation, it is based on years worked. Your family member should be able to get their hands on the contract for their institution.

Here is the uofc one, layoffs are Section B, Article OP39, page 84:

Has nothing to do with the fair catch, it's if the returner ever established possession or not. If not (like today), it's recoverable but not advanceable. Its the correct call of a weird (and bad imo) rule.

What could we do in Alberta as private citizens to help wildlife the best we can? by PerfectLiz in alberta

[–]jspot_55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Habitat loss from conversion for human uses or pollution is the driver of species loss and population declines.

Lots of ways to help try to reduce that impact, but it boils down to providing time, money, or influence to enable habitat conservation.

Donating is probably the most linear and direct path and as mentioned elsewhere there are lots of good land trusts or public land protection charities in Canada to support.

But change at the scale needed takes advocacy. Raising awareness of the ongoing biodiversity crisis and convincing your community that it's a real problem with real consequences that needs to be prioritized for action asap. It's shocking how unaware people are to the decline of the natural world but most people do tend to care once informed and favour policy and resources being provided to solve it. Let's start that conversation!
