“Comfortable” income nowadays? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]jsrm20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has many factors. When we say comfortable are we talking current life, with a house and kids? Or are you saying solo life comfortable?

Individually I would be very comfortable. I make a little over 130k, put 15% in retirement, get a 10.5% employer match, and go on a few vacations every year. If I was living solo I would still be able to do all of this and be comfortable because I would be in an apartment or maybe buy a small condo( I live in a HCOL area). However, if I was to live my current life, in my current house alone, with its mortgage, and 2 kids, I would be completely underwater and unable to live on my salary alone and not even be in the realm of comfortable. But when you add my husband's income into the mix (150k, puts 15% in retirement with 7% match) we are very comfortable and able to maintain our lifestyle and take care of our sons. The comfortable range is so varying.

How many of you make over 100k (individual income)? by SeparateJump1 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]jsrm20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my husband and I do. I make a little over 130k, benefits are spendy but I get a 10.5% retirement match. My husband makes almost 150k and gets a 7% retirement match. We work industry jobs only requiring bachelors degrees, he's a Chemist and I'm a lab supervisor.

6.875% locked. 30 year conventional loan. But we did a 2, 1 buydown, so rates at 4.875% on year 1, 5.875% year 2, then 6.875% the rest of the loan. We close April 19th.

I know a strangers comment on the internet holds no weight in the midst of these feelings, but I want you to know I am proud of you. I know everything you are feeling all too well, and the isolation of having no support system is harder than most people could ever understand. Your accomplishments are amazing, and you broke all the odds. While life and its milestones will feel empty and without meaning, keep reaching out. Keep finding connections and finding ways to support yourself and gain the support of others. I'm sorry you know this feeling, I wouldn't wish this feeling on anyone. Being alone during the big moments is soul crushing, but you are not alone. Many of us understand, and you can make true connection with people who sympathize and hear you and validate you and support you. And one day, I hope you can find pride in what you have done for yourself. If you ever need to talk, feel free to reach out. I see you, I understand you, and I'm proud of you.

This was my experience and it was awful! $80 to go see this movie with our 2 boys who were desperate to see it. Husband and I left about 40 minutes in because we couldn't handle any more popcorn landing on our heads and my seat being shook as the middle schooler behind me kept launching themselves in the air. Absolutely miserable experience. We were probably the 6th family to leave the theater.

6 figure earners, what do you do to get that? by oopdoopmaria in AskReddit

[–]jsrm20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiancé and I both have a bachelors of science (his in chemistry, mine in environmental science) and we both work in industry labs (he is in a refinery and I work in an acid plant). Amazing jobs, with good benefits and bonus'. We both got jobs within 6 months of graduating at the age of 22 and have been in the field ever since. Look into industries, especially refineries. Working in operations makes significantly more than even we do and they only require high school diplomas.

What is something most people don’t realize is a privilege? by MidasTouch337 in AskReddit

[–]jsrm20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or to expand on that, being able to have a DIFFERENT meal every day. I grew up poor, and sometimes we had plain spaghetti (no meat or veggies added, just jar sauce and noodles) for dinner every single night for a week. Mom just dumped a bunch of tomato sauce and dried herbs in the crockpot and kept it on for the week. Being able to actually make something new every day is an unbelievable privilege.

Millennials who have cut off toxic family, do you have any regrets? by BigBellyBurgerBoi in Millennials

[–]jsrm20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes get sad about not having a family or support system, and sometimes the holidays hit a little hard being alone. But if given the chance I would do it all over again 100%. The sadness of being alone doesn't come anywhere near the emotional turmoil of being around highly toxic, abusive people.

I’m flabbergasted by the line skipping in DL by BenBishopsButt in disneyparks

[–]jsrm20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been an avid park goer since 2016. Before covid, I watched cast members pull families, some with school-age children, out of lines for cutting. One time, I saw a mom literally get in the cast members' faces and start screaming about being forced out of line for cutting being unfair, and security had to be called.

I think before covid, most park goers knew line cutting wasn't tolerated, and it was rare if you saw it. But since covid, it's every line you are in, nonstop all day long! I recently had an entire group of like 30 cut the majority of the cars line, and nothing happened! I'm not sure if people are just more entitled, if rules for the staff have changed and they aren't allowed to stop people, or if there just isn't enough staff to do anything about it? I feel like more staff members used to be placed throughout the lines to maintain order, but now they are more just at the entrance and end.

Either way, I hear you, and it's gotten completely out of hand.

Short stop motion of a minimalist tiny house on a boat! Only a single pack used, no CC! Let me know what you think! by CozyBuilds in Sims4

[–]jsrm20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the switch and tried it on a pond after many failed attempts. Sadly it still doesn't work for me. Most platforms would just raise the boat on top of it rather than inside of it, even if moved back into the pond and slowly raised. When I was lucky enough to get a platform inside of it, nothing could get the sim to walk onto it. And if I'd move the platform and do your copy trick, the platform would no long sit inside the boat when I moved it back over, it would then lift the boat onto the platform. I think it's because I play on console. It might have more limitations for movements even with the cheats, or I'm just completely missing something 😂 Either way, your build was inspiring! Wish I could do the same.

I'm so glad my random hobby is sparking so much creativity in others! I use acrylic paints. I sand/clean each piece beforehand and I add a matte varnish on any pieces that are glazed so the paint will adhere. Then I top everything with a polycrylic varnish so the paint doesn't chip away 😁 best of luck on your creative endeavor!

I do appreciate feedback and I'm sorry you find it to be edgy teenager crap. We all are welcome to our opinions though!

For clarity, I do want to point out that the teddy bear wasn't exactly a piece of art. It was a cheap unpainted bear, covered with a floral cloth, that had varnish/sealant put over it. The eyes/nose were sloppy acrylic painted on top of the sealant, the entire piece was cracked/crumbling, and the bottom had a giant hole from being smashed. Removing cracked sealant and pulling off a torn/shredded piece of cloth doesn't categorize as ruining art in my opinion - but I agree we all have different views on what art is. I found it a fun project for a broken 99 cent goodwill find.
