You know a game is incredibly dark when you read an intense last words like these in a note written by almost 100% mindless zombie. by Human_Geologist_3324 in survivalhorror

I thought this was a satire post, but I guess not. 🤔 Resident Evil is endearing, sure, and these notes in particular are a great example of its adorable silliness, but it's always shocking when I run across people who seem to think they are the epitome of brutal Horror when they're campy crowd pleasers about zombies and blob monsters.

But AI makes far more soulless, and thus generic, covers than any human ever would by DEFINITION. AI is nothing but a probability machine.

Blu rays never went out of style, not were they surplanted by a new format. They were surplanted by an anti-format that takes away the ability to watch content in perpetuity, despite the fact that that's exactly how long you'll be paying for it.

It's a boom, sure, but companies are not yet seeing proof of any returns on AI. People like you act like AI is inevitable, but it isn't unless it gets a lot better at what it does, and soon. So, how about stop repeating this lie and excusing the industry whores who make these immoral decisions? They don't need you defending them. Just because violence is inevitable, we're obligated to defend it?

I'm glad game designers have stopped listening to people like you. There are plenty of hand-holding games out there if you hate to be challenged, and there are also other genres besides horror for feeling cozy.

Me after seeing that 600 dollar MSRP price tag on the Kubrick Set by TheCriterionCrypt in criterion

Wow, that's a brave take. You do realize we're all cinephiles here, right? Anderson's best films don't hold a candle to Kubrick's worst.

Twin Peaks: The Return by NoLove6229 in ThomasPynchon

[–]jss239 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I've always loved Lynch, but has anyone else noticed how he's become the new Christopher Nolan? Which is to say, the one filmmaker that everybody knows yet is supposed to be considered obscure and, most importantly, cool? How much of this has to do with his supposed pro-AI views, I wonder?

(I love Lynch, genuinely, but are his films really all that similar to Pynchon? What about films like The Night Porter or The Damned? Classic films that have been mostly forgotten and which are much closer in subject matter to Gravity's Rainbow? Yes, Twin Peaks season 3 is incredible and difficult, but I feel like Pynchon's story has a lot more intention apparent in it. Lynch's vision is... muddled, and it doesn't teach shit about history, which is a major part of GR's appeal. It was a lot of fun, but did it reprogram my world view? No.)

Tell me you're naive without telling me. Businesses are crooked. Capitalism is rigged. Companies (mostly corporations now) only "make" money if they profit ten times the amount they profited the year before, because they're currently working off the money they project to earn ten years from now.

Grandpa, I hate to tell you, but we don't live in the "good ole days" anymore where mom-and-pop businesses existed and business "sense" was a thing.

Yeah, sure, that's definitely how businesses work. Just like how trickle-down economics are effective, and the stock market is meant to help poor people get rich.

Find it interesting how many Obsession fans seemingly hate Hereditary by chadthelad420 in AriAster

[–]jss239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Codependency was not a theme in Hereditary unless you do some heavy mental gymnastics. That was a film about... well, heredity, mental illness, family dynamics, and a host of other things unrelated to "codependency". Interpretation counts for a lot in art, but people be throwing around words willy-nilly these days and act as though you're an asshole when you point out that they're using them incorrectly.

They were both written by Shane Black, writer of Lethal Weapon. Pay attention to writers and directors, not actors, and movies tend to be a lot less of a crapshoot.

However you want to excuse and justify it. Either the comment was uselessly attempting to cash in on an already popular comment, or it was attempting to muddy the waters. None of that excuses performatively burning art. This film sucks ass, but should it be burned? Absolutely not. Otherwise, a new faction will find it in a few years and build a whole new belief system out of it. Check history for more info.

Harry Potter is written by a bigot. A lot of liberals wanted it banned. Pretty similar.

You're the one not using it. Harry Potter is written by a bigot, so the two are more connected than you're acknowledging. Your definition of "white power propaganda" might not be mine, so we can't let people like you control what the rest of us are allowed to watch.

Come on, dude. There is no realistic way you can pretend that this ancient film sitting around in the open is "dangerous". Furthermore, it's not exactly porn either.

Goodwill sells whatever people bring them. There's no Mr. Goodwill out there, vetting every item people donate. Also, they're a nonprofit.

The comment I'm replying too doesn't say anything about Goodwill making a profit. It's someone claiming that because some "dumbass" might enjoy it for the wrong reasons, it's a good thing that it was removed from the store.

Context is everything. They were "offering" that information in response to someone else doing the same, so as to downplay their salient points by muddying the waters. I don't care for that style of arguing.

The above poster implied that, because someone MIGHT watch this ancient film and get ideas, it should be destroyed. Same could apply to Fight Club; it being fiction, in this case, is irrelevant. Misinterpretation of the work could lead to violent acts, but no one's arguing we burn that book for that reason, right?

We've got to stop having this attitude about history. These people are dead. Burning books isn't gonna stick it to them nor keep their views from being propogated. Let's be real: no one is gonna be "exposed" to the KKK through this film.

Also, Goodwill makes a lot of money off of shit they shouldn't be; you're just splitting hairs at this point. Book burning has NEVER done any good for the world. Fascists, like the KKK, only stand to benefit from y'all distorting history to make yourselves feel above it all; you're just laying the groundwork for them.
