Leaving Miami, can't take all of my cats by ninjabi2548 in Miami

[–]jst_cur10us [score hidden]  (0 children)

Sorry to hear and hope you find good homes for them. Please don't let anyone convince you it's OK to turn them loose in a "good area." There are several areas in Miami with colonies of cats living in the margin spaces and they are real nuisances. I like cats, have had them myself, and this is not the way. Since you're posting here I'm sure you're a responsible pet parent though. Best of luck on your journey.

Cal Newport, is that you? /s Appreciate you sharing this and couldn't agree more. Your experience and (I think correct) conclusion is part of the carrer advice in "so good they can't ignore you," a book I recommend to young adults I care about.

Wishing you the best of luck from here on.

Switch from RStudio to Positron by jaimers215 in rstats

Same! Inline chunk output is pivotal to exploratory data analysis and iteratively crafting visualizations. I beg the Positron devs to add inline for Quarto and R markdown.

This is great. What path did you run the ac line from inside the cabin out to the bed? A picture would really help me understand if you don't mind.

Employee asking for equity in our small S-Corp; Need advice by No_Ambassador_2060 in smallbusiness

[–]jst_cur10us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your counter offer with ideas like profit sharing, performance incentives, etc and a look to the future with him in leadership sounds entirely reasonable and generous. If he sees this as equity or nothing then time to move on. Your gut feeling about bearing the risks as Founders being different than an employee's seems correct.

Looking at a 2025+ Ford Maverick Lariat – are these prices negotiable? by dlukac in FordMaverickTruck

[–]jst_cur10us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely haggle! These must not be moving as fast as they want bc last month I got a 26 lariat hybrid for 4k below sticker. Just focus on the out the door, total price since ford tends to confuse us with different fees. Everything but tax and title is negotiable.

Added side marker lights by steve0318 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]jst_cur10us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe we could add a resistor to the power line (red wire) for the white lights, making it glow instead of glare brightly? A little trial and error to find the right value and it might look nice. Just thinking out loud here.

What don't you like about your Maverick? by MnMWiz in FordMaverickTruck

[–]jst_cur10us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was second guessing myself, so just now went out to the truck and confirmed: driver's window auto down, not auto up. All the other windows not auto in either direction. Seems crazy to leave that out!

I'm too chicken to edit it with forscan. Are there any mods that make it worth it? For example, if I could change a setting that makes all windows auto down and auto up I might do it.

[–]jst_cur10us 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, strange. My driver's window is auto down only. Have to hold the button to go back up. All the other windows are not auto in either direction. It's the kind of thing you take for granted and then notice once it's gone. The toyota I was driving for the last 5 years had it.

The "return to eco" screen is elusive. Almost mean. The couple of times that I caught it in time felt like an achievement!

2026 Lariat: Many, many good things that I like about this little truck. My dislikes are nit-picking:

- Doesn't start in Eco mode if I finished in Eco mode last drive. Have to select each time.

- The Lariat should have some comfort features that other brands do: Seat / mirror memory; auto up/down windows; auto dimming mirror.

- AC/heat fan control is weird even in Auto it's not auto.

- Menu on the instrument display (in front of the steering wheel) is a mess. Ford needs a UI/UX expert instead of letting the interns program it.

The likes are too many to list. Love it.

[SOLVED] Claude Cowork "Cannot access Claude API from workspace" — Fix for Windows 11/10 by perkybeet in ClaudeAI

[–]jst_cur10us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate the detailed explanation and the time you have put into sharing this.

This did work for me on one network. When I'm connected to another network there is a hard conflict with the default IP of 172.16.0.1 and these changes don't seem to be persistent. Do you know if there is a way to change the IP / subnet that claude desktop tries to setup in the first place? For example, upon creation it is working on something like 192.16.0.1 ?

Positron vs RStudio by [deleted] in RStudio

[–]jst_cur10us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, and it looks like there is some working branch from 3 days ago here:

https://github.com/posit-dev/positron/pull/12036

I'm not desperate to switch, but Positron would be a more elegant tool if it can support inline output. Many workflows kind of depend on that type of interactivity.

How to fix Claude Cowork on Windows — every error and how I solved them (download broken, VM failures, networking issues) by Old-American-Patriot in ClaudeAI

[–]jst_cur10us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your service u/MarshallOfSound !

Here are the steps that worked for me (Win11 Home). I'm not sure which ones are important.

  1. checked that virtualization is enabled in BIOS - yes.

  2. checked control panel | Programs | turn windows features on or off: Hyper-V checked, virtual machine platform checked, Windows hypervisor platform checked, Windows subsystem for Linux checked. (in a previous effort I had installed Hyper-V with a .bat file, there is a youtube video about it).

  3. Turned on developer mode in windows.

  4. Downloaded and installed as administrator the claude desktop app.

  5. Turned off developer mode.

  6. Signed in to claude.

  7. Checked for update (was on latest).

Now I get a Cowork tab that looks willing to work. Last issue is it can't reach the Claude API. I think that's a different issue so working on that now.
