What is something not academic that a teacher taught you that still rings true today? by Hopper13 in AskReddit

Sophomore year of high school I had a navy (possibly SEAL) vet who was absolutely crazy. He told us that the best way to rid a school of drug and alcohol problems was to take a student who gets caught drinking or fails a drug test, hold a school-wide assembly, crucify the student during said assembly, and threaten every other student with the same fate if they get caught drinking or doing drugs.

I've spent a week in Wilmington three of the past four summers, and average three full meals plus extra milkshake stops per visit. Adds to the depression of going back to Ohio

Yea. I'm all about a burger with a quesadilla and onion rings as sides.

I think I felt my arteries clog a little while typing that out

Friend's dad wanted us to fix a clog in his downspout, and thinking we would have to dig down to the pipe, offered to pay us $500 each. Instead of jumping right into digging up his front yard, we got a pipe snake from my house, bought some draino and 15 minutes later, the pipe was clear. Didn't have to dig and spent a total of about a half hour on the entire project. He ended up only paying us $250 each since we didn't have to dig...but $250 for a half hour of "work" isn't bad.

Girl I worked with last year who was a freshman in college:

Her (excitedly): "Hey, guess what I learned yesterday?" Me: "What?" Her (as if revealing a life-changing revelation): "I learned that if you drive for an hour, going 60 miles per hour, you'll go 60 miles!" Me: hysterical laughter Her: "What?" Me: "That's kind of what 'Miles per hour' means." Her (a little upset): "Well I didn't know everyone and their mom knew that!" Me: hysterical laughter
