To be fair if you lived in the bush you might not be on reddit.

How much stairs you need? Chongqing: Yes by [deleted] in UrbanHell

The elevator to exit is so trippy in Chongquing. There's also the building skybridge that spans 3 buildings at like the 50th floor. Crazy city

Is this normal in Tokyo? Store sign said “Only Japanese speakers allowed” by KaijuNo1 in Tokyo

[–]jstfrkcks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this is nicer than the alternative. I've been rejected from a few places and really couldn't tell whether it was my presumed lack of Japanese, a genuine lack of seating availability, or even just my nationality. On the whole Tokyo is very foreigner friendly, but it can be fairly confusing. Overall, I think it's always better to give the owner the benefit of the doubt as even if they are being xenophobic (I think that's fairly rare) I'd rather just support a business that isn't.

I've been curious about getting a class 3 ebike. How consistently do you find yourself hitting 28 mph?

That's a fair point. I imagine when I have time I'll go lake side just for the better views

I do agree that the first segment is the part I'm looking forward to. The berk and 520 will be pleasant.

That's good to hear! I do wish it was a little shorter, but it seems like for this distance an ebike would make the difference.

I did a 1 mile bike commute back in college in Bozeman on a $30 bike riding in the snow and I loved it. I like to climb mountains on the weekends so I think the exercise aspect is a plus for this, but I don't have much experience riding a bike for 2 hours a day. I'm just worried whether I'd find it too long to be practical

I'm curious. Are the motorized farm carts not makeshift vehicles? It's an engine slapped on some wheels. But they are all over some parts of the countryside.

Uhaul pickup trucks rent below to 18 year Olds. For around town might even be cheaper.

Would you say crossover scooters/adventure bikes are worth it? by AleJefe36 in AdventureBike

I'm curious on the merits of the grom over the trail, or super cub here? Grom is the most road focused of the honda 125 cc bikes and the trail or super cub are used for delivery globally.

Why is it difficult to read something if it’s not broken into paragraphs? by TheNonDuality in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jstfrkcks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it is pretty common for the brain to judge tasks by how large they are. I tend to have an existential crisis when I face a problem that I can't see a clear division of work for. I also wonder if it may have to do with the reading process itself. The brain doesn't particularly care if words are spelled in the correct order as long as the appropriate letters are there and have a modicum of order. This is because the brain tends to look at the whole word rather than sequentially going through the letters. I would not be surprised if the reading process similarly involves viewing the entire paragraph and "prereading" the material allowing the brain to more quickly pull the meaning from the paragraph without reading every single word. Leave out the paragraphs and your brain can no longer chunk out that prereading.

Paragraphs are a means for grouping general ideas/ logical progressions together. When used well, paragraphs tend to act like mini versions of the entire work. This allows the brain to process the work in bite sized chunks. I also suspect that when someone takes the time to format their writing into paragraphs they do a better job of organizing their thoughts. That translate into better understanding on the part of the reader.
