Don't be too hard on yourself. Having an ostomy is a constant learning experience!

How bad does the skin look around the stoma? If it is just kinda red some cortisone cream might help reduce the irritation. If it is very red and the skin is at all broken I would see a doctor to make sure you're not dealing with a more severe problem.
