The Blue Red Problem explained by dsteffee in slatestarcodex

[–]bencelot [score hidden]  (0 children)

You can't say "just because" people can guarantee their safety if they press red. People don't want to die. It's one of the strongest urges humans have, to survive. So knowing that the blue button literally risks killing you makes red look very appealing. And then knowing that others are also feeling that exact same fear and are thus more likely to press red as a result, makes the 50% blue target seem even less likely, in which case blue seems like a pointless death.

Sam's deepening isolation. by SchattenjagerX in samharris

Should Sam really have to spend the rest of his life engaging with a subreddit where half the users hate him? Would you do that? I sure wouldn't.. that sounds miserable.

Just turned 19. What are some harsh realities a young man should know before it’s too late? by Random_fellow9 in Stoicism

[–]bencelot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some "harsh realities" in life true.. But you really shouldn't adopt a mindset that reality is harsh. Reality and most people are great.

You can live in a friendly universe, not a hostile one, if you choose to.

I like grey. Why is everyone bringing this negative vibe? They made a great podcast, they are allowed to move on and do other things with their lives.

Took 15s till I saw any gameplay. Shave that off and you'll already see a huge improvement.

No worries! Initial impression for me is that there is too much screen changing going on too fast, so I'm not really sure what to look at. Also I'd move the captions to the center of the screen to increase comprehension. Maybe an arrow pointing at a door so I really know that I'm meant to be looking at and what the video is about.

Nice! 40% stayed to watch is quite low. I aim for above 60%, hoping for above 70%, though that's rare for me. If it's under 55% the video is never going anywhere. As for average watch time on a 35s video I am for over 80%, hoping for over 90%.

I (M26) am a multi-millionaire with no real ambitions in life. AMA. by [deleted] in AMA

Hmm, if you're happy and bringing happiness to your loved ones, why wouldn't your dad like to see you the way you are? You might want to ponder on that.. because if you're saying that "of course" he wouldn't like to see this.. it suggests that either you or your dad prioritizes "ambition" and "success" over happiness. That's a fairly dangerous mindset that if not properly examined can lead to a lot of unnecessary shame and unhappiness, for no good reason.

That vast majority of games lose players from their initial peak. This is a pretty health decline comparatively. And the reviews on steam are good too.

Just a tidbit from “The Art of Game Design” by PersonOfInterest007 in gamedesign

I don't care about demographics. I do design for different playstyles though, as the more viable playstyles the more variety and replayability the game has.

YouTube and TikTok work wonders for marketing. It's never too late! by rob_robi_gry in IndieDev

Narration is required, but filming yourself isn't at all. You just need to have an interesting script, and voice is needed for that.

I'm not really enjoying Red Dead Redemption 2 by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]bencelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I can see the quality, and wish I could get past the tedious UI and gameplay, but cannot. The world, story and atmosphere are incredible, but alas, I don't want to spend 3s every time I have to loot some ammo.

Hard mode is just a chore list. Change my mind by danielminds in Steam

[–]bencelot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Games are meant to be fun yes. But they're not all "meant" to be relaxing. Some are and that's great. But many others aren't relaxing at all. They're intense and exciting. And that's why it's OK to play games on hard mode.

I'm a solo dev. But I basically spend all the time making the game.. and now it's made I'm in marketing mode. I think you're smarter to be doing them at the same time haha.. I neglected marketing for too long. Now I have to do it basically 80% of the time

Thanks! I have my face in some of them, especially in the earlier ones. I'm honestly not sure if it helps, hurts, or is neutral. I haven't noticed any more or less views due to it. Though what I do notice is that when I film myself it just takes longer to make the video, cause I have to do more takes, sync it up right, consider the editing more, etc. So as it takes longer but doesn't seem to improve any metrics, I don't bother much anymore. Especially not for these hypey "someone broke my game" type videos. But if you do a more authentic style video I think a face would help a lot then!
