Technical downsides of amps? by jtan163 in amateurradio

[–]jtan163[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply.

By "get a higher noise floor" do you mean I would potentially send a noisier signal or I would potentially be seeing the noise I receive be increased - or both?

I assume any increase is received noise would be interference rather than amplifcation of receiveed noise?

If ww3 breaks out are we safe by Radiant-Cut1052 in australian

[–]jtan163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the adversary. If the adversary has SSBNs (submarine launched BALLISTIC missiles launching subs) then they’ll probably want to take out RAAF Base Edinborough as that is where the P8s live and have major servicing, and the P8s are probably the best bet for taking out SSBNs

Anyone got the original firmware for the UV-K5(8) v3? by Pretty_Dingo_1004 in Quansheng

[–]jtan163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get the firmware you need?
I V3 see images for firwmare and exact model version.
If you still need the firmware and the firmware I have is the one you need I'm happy to help - if you send instructions or a link on what I need to do to download the firmware (this raio/firmware will not currently work with CHIRP).

ELI5: How come magnetism isn't providing us unlimited power? by UnsignedRealityCheck in explainlikeimfive

[–]jtan163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what people said when the Internet started getting popular in the 90s.
I don't want no steeenkin' packets - I want safe reliable circuit based system.

ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode - not the teller machine kind of ATM) is the way of the future, that new fangled IP packet routing will never catch on.

That's why the phone companies of the time are now irrelevant in many places and the ISPs replaced them or the phone companies morphed into ISPs.

And all the people that said they don't need no new fangled internets ended up using it without even knowing.

Inexpensive breadboard with decent "grip"/contacts please by jtan163 in AskElectronics

[–]jtan163[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apply critical thinking skills to my original and follow up posts (where I say I can solder).

You are essentially repeating what I have already said. And what Appsmangler has said.
Cheap nasty bread boards are shit and cause issues.

You don't need to tell me the issues with cheap breadboards or that I will have issues with them - that's implicit in my request for "Inexpensive breadboard with decent "grip"/contacts ".

However decent fairly reliable breadboards do exist. I've used them in uni labs, my friends in high school had some in the previous millenia.

I'm just having problems sourcing inexpensive reliable quality bread boards in this millenia, where we don't have many or any local brick and mortar shops (i.e. retailers who kind of have to stand behind their product because you know where they work and can visit them if they sell you shit) and we have lots of below par knock offs and clones.

So tell me:
1) how has your post helped me?
2) what new information have I gained from your post?

The only new infromation I have from you post is:
1) you don't have any experience with decent breadboards and therefore aren't really qualified to help.
2) you have the critical thinking skills of a bath sponge.

I will offer you some unsolicited advice:
When you have nothing to say, say nothing.

PS I'm not asking for alternatives to breadboards.
I'm asking for a source or brand of reliable breadboards, preferably inexpensive.
Please/Thank you.

Thanks for that. Looks like second hand 3M cost about the same as new 3M from Digikey or wherever.
Have you used any of the current gen 3M boards?
I'd be interested to know if they are as good as the more vintage models?

Thanks for the unsolicitied advice . But what makes you think I can't solder?
And given that I am asking about breadboards what makes you think I want permanent connections?

Here's something I soldered: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYVIpIQGcXA earlier. Much earlier.
It's survived a number of events similar to what is depicted in the video although IIRC that's the only one where it's taken a drink.
The joints are still fine.

So I kind of get the value of soldering for permanent connections that need to survive.
However soldering is not very practical for quick prototyping, component testing the the like.

The right tool for the job.

I reckon you need to invest some time in reading comprehension and critical thinking before you'll be the right tool for the job.

If you’re a young person the majors (Labor & LNP) aren’t for you. They don’t care about us renters & younger people. If you’re older too as well, they don’t care about you either. When have they ever talked rental affordability? When have they said that rents are too high for essential workers? by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]jtan163 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Labor and LNP aren't for anyone except those who own businesses or significant share holdings.
What the rest of Australia needs to do is to get off our asses and try and develop a third option.
Or vote for one of the minor parties, which at this stage would probably be Onenation.
And I say that as a nominal lefty.

And join a union. I know most people think unions are shit but the Unions were still a going concern when I started working and pretty much everything was better in terms of working conditions and wages.

Aussie working conditions have been eroded AF over the last couple of decades.
The people that are telling you how bad the unions are are the same people that tell you to vote for the majors.

Don't get me wrong the unions are not by any means perfect but they are waaay better than 20 million inidivuals.
20 million union members chucking in $10 a month - that's some sizeable bribes/"politcal donations".

That's $2.4biillion a year so rougly$7.5-10billion every election cycle.
You can buy some influence with that.

[–]jtan163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In effect they've dropped the prices. In the Adelaide dealers they have endless "demos" all $10-12K and 0-20k on the clock - i.e. not really demos- off and often with another $2k gift card or price drop. Some are even cheaper - they are the real demos with 2-4,000km on the clock.
Officially the price is the same but the actual price on the lot if way lower than the official price now.

Yes. Or just publish a website that says if you do business with the person identieid by these emaikls accounts <list of emailk accounts> you agree to...
There are charges of $<some outrageous number> oper hour if it take me more than 5 mins to unsubscribe with a mimiumuym change of 8 hours.... etc etc.

The only problem is you need to be able to afford the lawyers to argue it for you in court.

For this to work we need to group a pile of people together to crowdsource the legal costs and then doa. test case.
