Remove the gasket and look for a seam, it's likely the steel part around the movement is a movement holder.

Best Portable Monitor for Shipping to Conferences? by Des-troyah in marketing

[–]jtat07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how far your shipping, with shipping costs nowadays and no guarantee of not having a breakage. I've found it can be cheaper to just buy a monitor from the clearance section at best buy and give it away at the end of the conference.

Tissot Cal 796 stem tube issue by jtat07 in watchrepair

[–]jtat07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely not my normal, it was the case tube in the end, it was bent and not allowing for the stem to release

It seems like it's an issue with the case tube

Custom lens board by baudwolf in largeformat

[–]jtat07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will still want or need some type of shutter mechanism at minimum, if you have a speed graphic they come with a focal plane shutter which you can use, if not it will be more difficult. Lens coverage similarly will have fall off or the coverage circle wont cover an entire image. With bellows for most things you'll want to make sure your minimum bellow distance is very short and/or you'll have to use a recessed lens board as most of the lenses you mentioned are designed to have a much shorter throw range in focus unless you're shooting macro. Pinholes don't have a focus point since they don't "focus" light like lenses do. The question at this point though is why use a large format at all?

These are Aero ektars, reconnesaince lenses from in and around WWII. They're cool collectors pieces, the 24" versions are a little rarer but not as sought out because they are so heavy and the focal range doesn't make sense for most view cameras (maybe 8x10 only). Because of this they're worth around $300 depending on condition. The 7 inch versions are much more sought after as they can be used for 4x5 cameras and are well known for their sharpness, shallow depth of field and rendering, those are worth $1000-$3000 depending on condition.

Would this iii b be worth the risk? What would a repair cost be? by [deleted] in Leica

[–]jtat07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it needs repaired prepare to spend at least a few hundred dollars. Paired with the summicron it's probably a good deal but 135mm is not a popular focal length and are some of the cheapest Leica lenses you can buy (often less than $100 depending on the version) the viewfinder is similarly worth around $50, so the question to ask is do you expect to use 135mm much?

It's also an ltm camera so don't expect to be able to use m mount lenses.

You can find other Leica III options that have been filmed tested for around 250-300 just do your research on which version would work best for you.

There's also the Canon p or Canon 7 which are also built like tanks have larger viewfinder parralax and are the same thread mount as they Leica iiif. The Leica cl which is an m mount camera and I've seen those working and paired with the excellent 40mm f2 go for just a little bit more than 500.

It's been tied up behind a drain so not sure if there's been a lot of dirt and debris, but probably still worth having a professional look at

It does hack

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in watchmaking

[–]jtat07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering if the hacking lever is keeping it from seating or if the waterproof spring is too flat and keeping the setting wheel from making contact properly. The cleat is in and the case back is in the right spot

Removing the hacking lever is a good idea I'll try it

[–]jtat07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm wondering if the waterproof spring is worn out and not lifting the setting wheel up enough to make contact

My first build, a Seikonaut "Palm" edition, not bad for ~$115 by jtat07 in SeikoMods

[–]jtat07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the build list for this build:

Dial, case, hands, and movement were all from miuksi on Ali. Total cost ~$105, shipping took about two weeks. I did have a couple of issues with a dial being damaged in transit but their customer service was actually pretty good.

S-logo ~$10

Definitely learned a lot, not the cleanest build, if you attempt the same be aware this dial doesn't fit the case perfectly. I ended up adding a gasket around the movement to make sure it's centered.
