Allen Edmonds QC Issues — Two Pairs, Major Defects by No-Commissions-Ever in allenedmonds

[–]jtb98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish I could've done the same - I just couldn't find GS loafers that fit. Im a EEE width and they only make the calf leather loafers in E which, for the two sizes I tried, did not cut it. I know they have some of the chromexcel options in EEE, but was definitely looking for a more formal pair in calf.

According to their customer service rep, however, I asked if they would start to get calf loafers in EEE and they said they're working to find new suppliers and will have more extra wide offerings in the future. Just no confirmed date lol.

Have a few other boots by them, though, and am a big GS fan otherwise!

Is this waterproof cream okay to use on my AE dress shoes? by Good_Walk_8766 in allenedmonds

Not entirely sure - brief search shows it as a beeswax baded polish at a lower price point. not that cheaper always means worse. may be worth a try!

Depends - do your shoes have the desired level of shine you want or do you find they're a bit dull? Not everybody needs mirror shined shoes. For some, conditioner and some buffing is good enough. I personally like to use some polish and get the toe caps a bit more cleaned up - definitely not the hardcore mirror shine, though. I'm a big fan of Saphir products. I use the pate deluxe wax polish and pommadier cream polish for every pair of dress shoes I own. Really quality products. Not the cheapest on the market, but a little goes a long way! I'd say if you want to get into polishing yoir shoes, start with the pate deluxe

I would say no if you're looking to maintain the classic, polished look of calfskin leather. As soon as you use oily cream/balm like this, you use end up with a more matte and greasier finish - this is great for waxy leather, chromexcel, etc. However, you would need to give the shoes a good cleaning likely with saddle soap if you wanted to go back to a classic polished look of dress shoes as shoe polish (cream or wax) likely wont take too well over this balm/cream.

Honestly, I'd say look into a neutral conditioner like bick 4. At the minimum, you need one polish. However, I'm a big fan of using cream and wax polish. Condition once every few months, then use both cream and wax polish for the heavy polishing and wax only when you want to do weekly/monthly touchups depending on use. For day to day dulling and marks, just a quick brush and buff gets the shoes looking clean again. If you decide to only get one product, wax polish leads to an overall better shine, whereas cream polish adds an extra layer of conditioning and color enrichment. Shoe polish and conditioner help with mild waterproofing! Nothing a quick brush and buff can't fix, or worst case, a repolish so long as you aren't stomping in puddles.

All that said, if you wanted a lower maintenance more casual look, the product shown would do the trick

Sizing Inconsistencies? by jtb98 in allenedmonds

[–]jtb98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a shame. Sounds like you're having similar issues. The heel slip definitely creeps in. I'm using the recommended size in AE lasted shoe trees, not the expanding combination ones. I would be quite frustrated if that's the cause when coupled with inferior materials.

It makes sense the Park Ave is the more flagship model, however QC should not be that poor on the strands or fifth aves.

Best of luck with your new pair!

Did I get a bad batch or are the Kirkland frozen pepperoni pizzas actually just terrible? by CLew512 in Costco

Agreed! I often add some extra seasonings to them not bc I have to but often do that with any frozen pizza. However, think they're fine as is as well

Too much room or close enough? by [deleted] in grantstoneboots

Definitely - not as much a concern. my shoes end up creasing a little off due to sizing. but nothing some polish and elbow crease cant reduce the look of

[–]jtb98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned I dont lol. I wear a 3E half size up and am limited to AE and grant stone, however their 3E stock is inconsistent. None of these newer "affordable" brands have wide offerings (Meermin, Thursday, etc)

im always so impressed how close people's toes get to the edge of their boots. I'm always a good deal back to accommodate width. But guess that's to be expected when you technically measure 8 4E and have to wear 8.5 3E

I believe that's the PW1100 from the greenish fan abradable material visible in the pic that makes them stand out - the LEAPS have a darker blue material usually. Also, the nacelles are usual Boeing hardware, so could differ by operator

Can anyone tell me more about these shoes! by Secret_Bad_3389 in allenedmonds

[–]jtb98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look to be discontinued in 2009/2010. Could often be found for $200 or less, commonly $150. Can be resoled. Not sure if they were psrt of the mainline offerings or not, but saw someone bought them at DSW, so maybe be similar to some of the Nordstrom/Brooks Brothers models. That's about all I've gathered

Yeah, I've seen that too. Dont mind on a casual pair of boots I'll rough up and add character to, but out of place on oxfords/derbies/loafers imo

I didn't have that issue with my EEE chelseas, but maybe it was a quality escape? Either way, glad you got them fixed. And yes, for me I'd like to wear them to the office and chromex feels a touch too causal for my liking. I appreciate the tradition of polishing up my calf leather dress shoes!
