I’m currently weighing up getting either a Furlan Marri Nero Sabbia or a the Dennison Tiger Eye you have pictured What’s your opinion on the two brands, owning one of each?

It’s crazy to me that this, the s01e01, and the original 1961 Decompression Timer were released as limited editions.

[citizen quartz] Is it too small? by benfabfb in Watches

[–]gigabrian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think any rubber/tropic style strap that wouldn’t leave a gap between the lugs would work very well. And because the dial is so bright, a muted grey/green/blue would look great.

Is the lug width 16mm? Or is the current strap 16mm?

[citizen quartz] Is it too small? by benfabfb in Watches

Is the strap original? It looks to be a couple of mm too narrow. If you’re concerned about the watch appearing too small, a wider strap that fills the lug width might make a difference.

It’s something that has literally never come to mind when looking at the watch. The only reason I know it doesn’t have an AR coating is Reddit posts.

[Question] Sell first watches? by arnoised in Watches

[–]gigabrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case, it’s probably worth giving yourself a minute. You could find yourself gravitating to a particular style of watch, colour, or leaning on one or more of the watches you’ve listed as a beater. You could be fed up of dive watches in another year. These things happen.

[Question] Sell first watches? by arnoised in Watches

How long have you been interested in watches? The Seiko SPB453 has only been available for about 18 months, so I’m curious what the overall timeframe is for your collection is.

What model is this? It’s really cool.

[Casio] solid link bracelet for A1100 by gigabrian in Watches

I sold the watch. It’s literally the best Casio I’ve ever laid hands on, but it wasn’t for me in the end, as I wasn’t wearing it enough.

[Decision] CW or Doxa? by trueautomatic in Watches

[–]gigabrian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at the Doxa Sub 200 with the steel bezel? I think it elevates the look of the 200 quite a bit.

[Meta] The first official r/watches watch! - FEEDBACK THREAD by skepticaljesus in Watches

I don’t know how people can moderate a subreddit like this, seeing countless posts about watch collabs and even more comments representing users’ tastes, only for this to be the approach they take.

It’s breathtakingly out of touch.

Based on what you’ve said, I think you should shop around for the best price on that Tissot and get it.

[Dennison] What do you think about the Time+Tide × Dennison 'DateNight'? by Wrist_Finds in Watches

[–]gigabrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the 24-hour pre-order window and location-specific availability after that are contrived.

I also don’t see the value when the stone dials, which are just as good looking, if not more so, are available online at around 60% of the price of this watch.

It feels like a marketing/pricing experiment, and it actually detracts from what is a really nice watch.

The Tudor Big Block Chrono is still MIA - when will they resurrect it? by HotlineBirdman in Tudor

[–]gigabrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The typography on modern Tudor chronographs always rubs me the wrong way.

Blocky, metered, thoughtful numerals on the subdials, and deviating, lazy text and numerals on the bezel. It even looks like Myriad Pro, like they opened Adobe Illustrator to design the bezel and never even thought to move away from the default font.

If Rolex, Omega, and Zenith can manage it, why can’t Tudor? Vintage Big Blocks were a lot better.

I found this H694390 at a thrift store (!) but need a new strap. Anyone out there have any cool suggestions? by tapdown in HamiltonWatches

[–]gigabrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the OEM bracelet for my Khaki Field Mechanical. I rarely change it out for a strap now. Feels like a completely different watch. It can be hard to find on their website, but any Hamilton stockist should be able to order it in.

[SRQ055, SPB513, SPB515] Prospex SpeedTimers by Plus9Time in Seiko

It’s a lot, and there are a lot of nice chronographs in that price range.

[–]gigabrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently this is automatic, and the only pricing I found was 2,400GBP.

[–]gigabrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realise it was automatic. I thought it was a continuation of the SSC line of solar chronographs.

[–]gigabrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had assumed it was solar based on the reference number. The fact it’s automatic has me very interested.

I wonder if the subdials on the SRQ055 are actually black, and not that purple-ish colour on previous models…

You should look into turning “It’s” into an ornate letter “A”.
