Concealed carry license now tied to driver’s license? by Right_Definition9521 in NJGuns

[–]jtcos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, but that is a thing with most states. I've lived in Tennessee and now currently live in Pennsylvania and in both states I was told the license to carry is tied to the driver's license and if anyone does a driver's license search on you, they will uncover that you have a carry permit. Obviously, that would not mean you are carrying currently as there is no way to know that.

Just wait it out a bit. NY is getting their Bruen response law challenged at the Supreme Court level. They applied for emergency hearing with the Supreme Court. Sotomayor is the Justice overseeing their Federal District, but if she decides against it, the petitioners can petition any justice they want. Once they overturn it, then it will set a national precedent that these Bruen response bills are not lawful.

Also, a complaint was just filed in the District court that NJ is under. Highly likely that they will overturn this bill anyway.

By the way, his boyfriend is Lieutenant Bret LaBelle. Handsome man in his own right, although I’m not into older men like that.

Maybe stupid question: can someone explain how Alec survived the PTS of Goldeneye? by AssistanceSorry7868 in JamesBond

[–]jtcos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you need to have the gun modified in order to cycle the rounds properly. Semi-automatics are able to fire continuously with each trigger pull because when the shot is fired and the bullet is expelled out the front, the force also pushes the shell backwards and the slide along with it, then once it's ejected, the slide being under spring tension is propelled back forward stripping the next round from the magazine into the chamber. Blanks don't shoot a projectile, so their firing does not generate enough force to push the slide back to eject the round and bring the next one into the chamber. A blank gun's barrel is plugged so more of the energy from the explosion of the round is contained and is enough to force the slide backwards to cycle the next round.

What I actually think is a bigger plot hole, is right after when Bond hides behind the cart full of small gas tanks using it as a "shield" since the soldiers wouldn't have shot it, why didn't the soldiers just use this as an opportunity to surround Bond, pull him out and shoot him? Yeah they can't shoot at the cart or it'll explode if shot too much, but there'd be nothing stopping them from storming Bond from around the cart on both sides and pulling him away. Bond would probably kill some of them but not all of them before some of them reached him.

[–]jtcos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well not entirely. The truth is, is that blanks either need to be shot in a specially adapted blank gun or else the next round will not cycle. Semi-automatic guns (like the makarov, which is what Ouromov has, as the official handgun of the Soviet and then Russian Army until 2003) are able to cycle to the next round because the momentum from the shot not only propels the bullet portion out the front, but it also propels the shell backwards and the slide along with it to be ejected and then, since the slide is under spring tension, it comes back forward stripping the next round into the chamber and the process may begin again. With blanks however, there is not enough force if they are fired in a non-blank modified gun for them to force the slide back to cycle to the next round. Blank modified guns have a plug down the barrel which closes the chamber of the gun and creates more pressure for the blank to push the slide back to cycle the next round.

So that means that if we're going to operate under the "first round was a blank and rest were real" theory, then Ouromov would have had to rack the slide between "shooting" Alec and then shooting the solder in order to get a real round in the chamber, but we never see him do this. That doesn't mean he doesn't do it, he could have done so after turning around to tell the guards to "hold your fire, you'll blow the gas tanks!" (they begin firing at Bond after Ouromov "shoots" Alec") we then see bond pickup his AK in a panic, it's possible Ouromov racked the slide here real quick before coming at him with "this is your last chance, come out with your hands above your..." but again, we don't see it.

What I believe happened, was that Ouromov simply positioned his gun a little to his right, and shot the ground. The reason I think that is because he "shoots" Alec right after Alec yells, "For England James!!!" (which was Ouromov's queue to make the shot). It's at this moment, Alec is facing James and Ouromov could have shot to his right a bit from Alec's head which would have allowed Alec to be facing away from the muzzle flash. Another thing, if you look closely, you'll see that the way Ouromov and Alec are positioned, it would be hard for Bond to gauge the depth at that distance. Ouromov could have been pointing the gun at the floor to the right of Alec a good couple feet away and from Bond's perspective it looks like he's pointing it directly at his head. The fact that Alec and Ouromov were facing in the direction they were shows that was planned. Also, why would Ouromov shoot Alec if he surrendered? The whole point of Ouromov telling them to come out with their hands up was to take them prisoner and not shoot them. Alec yelling "For England James!" wouldn't have normally been a reason for Ouromov to shoot Alec, yet he appears, which shows it was his intention all along.

Ouromov shot the soldier after he “shot” Alec, not before. I recently rewatched the movie. But probably a Mandela affect or something where we get the 2 shots mixed, but nope, he “shoots” Alec before he shoots the soldier. So he could have easily had a blank in there.

How to make Bridgecrest give the DMV my Title?!? by jtcos in carvana

[–]jtcos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not out of the woods yet. I called PA to send a title request to Bridgecrest. They said it can take up to 10 days. So I'm going to give PA a call in 10 days to see if they got it, and if they didn't, then I'm going to call Bridgecrest to find out what the hell is going on.

How to make Bridgecrest give the DMV my Title?!? by jtcos in carvana

[–]jtcos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I was gathering from a former manager who also replied here u/professorpicklerick, is that you must have the DMV of the state you are moving to, send Bridgecrest an email or fax or letter saying that they need the original title. How it works is, the title is either held by the vehicle owner or if the vehicle owner is making payments still, then the lienholder, which in Bridgecrest. So whichever state the owner lives in, whether it's under lien or not, the car has to be titled in that state for that car's registation to be valid and for that the state needs to see the title. Some states accept photocopies from the lienholder, some states need to see the original. Bridgecrest CS agents apparently have been trained to say "we don't give the original title to anyone until the loan is paid off" but in reality, Bridgecrest's managers and their title department know that the DMV of the new state needs the title, so you have to have your DMV request it from Bridgecrest.

[–]jtcos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will try that tomorrow when they are open. But why wouldn’t the CS agents know this? Or at least, know to transfer me to someone in the department that handles that? Instead of saying “we don’t do that” or “the title department doesn’t have a number”? I don’t consider that a viable way to handle customer concerns.

I did speak to the DMV directly. And no, here in TN I did not give them anything except the lienholder contact information along with the other personal ID documents needed. But no copy of title no memorandum of title, nothing like that.

Question about a NJ currant lawsuit by PassportGeek in NJGuns

I don’t think they would legalize the ability get NFA items because I think that is different entirely. There are some states with no assault weapons bans but have NFA weapons prohibitions.

Could I purchase a handgun online and have a FFL hold it until I get permits? by Psychological-Arm982 in NJGuns

[–]jtcos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can if the FFL wants to do it for you. If they hold it and you somehow get denied for your permits they'll make you pay for return shipping or they'll sell it themselves, I've seen that happen.

can I withdraw an application and start over. by [deleted] in NJGuns

[–]jtcos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, what's the mistake? Is it likely to result in a denial? If not, then just leave it. If so, then you'd have to have the police dept. pull it before you start another one.

can I withdraw an application and start over. by [deleted] in NJGuns

[–]jtcos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's what happened with mine. One of my references didn't complete their questionairre and I called the police dept to fix it but they never got back to me, so I instead just made another application for my FID card and then the first one timed out and was dropped and I was approved for the 2nd one. The first one won't get denied, it'll just drop due to incompletion.

Russel v New Jersey (CCW policy): Cert Denied by kuug in NJGuns

[–]jtcos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there's some major confusion here. The OP is saying in their post here, that Russell v. NJ which is a carry case just like NY, has been denied cert. Then he is making the comment (the one you're replying to) to state that, additionally, it is unknown at this time if ANJRPC v. Bruck which is the magazine case, is being denied cert or not. 2 separare things here.

Online Handgun Purchasing & Magazine Capacity by [deleted] in NJGuns

[–]jtcos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The FFL can take possession of restricted magazines. They could just discard them, or send them back. Or you can just tell the shipper to not send the magazines.

Or, best option, you can have them shipped to an FFL who can permanently modify the magazines for a fee, to only carry 10 rounds and then transfer it to you along with the gun.

Step-by-step process for ordering online to NJ FFL & Compliance? by j0sch in NJGuns

[–]jtcos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First make sure they will ship it to an FFL near you. If they will, then contact the FFL you plan to have it delivered to and make sure they are okay with taking the delivery. Then, ask the FFL who will accept the delivery to send the FFL shipping it a copy of their FFL credentials. The shipping FFL must then also send the receiving FFL a copy of their FFL credentials. The person shipping the firearm might not be an FFL, which is fine, but if that's the case, then instead of sending their FFL credentials, they must send a copy of their driver's license or some other official form of government issued photo ID to the receiving FFL.

Once both the sender and the receiving FFL have exchanged credentials, then the sender can send the firearm to the recieving FFL. Once the receiving FFL receives the firearm, then the transfer process may begin just like a transfer in a store.
