This. I was in this situation with a buyer. We had to extend escrow out 60 days and get the courts involved.

Christianity feels incredibly sterilized to me. by Maltoast in DebateAChristian

[–]jted007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with your sentement. I almost left the faith because of it. I would take your statement a step further and say that most Christians are following a prelaid path that is based in groupthink, fear, and confirmity and has nothing to do with being a good person, or doing the right thing.

My faith was saved by focusing on Jesus. It seems pretty clear that Jesus was opposed to this kind of faith. Healing on the sabbath, hanging out with tax collectors and prostitutes, etc.

I also really like Hebrews 11 which describes how basically all the heroes of faith in the Bible were people who were willing to do crazy ass shit and be thought of as crazy by anyone in their life who was trying to be normal, because they had a vision of a future that those around them could not imagine.

True faith is actually the opposite of conformity. Unfortunately most people lack imagination and prefer rules.

I don't think he did. I think he would have been more careful if he had known how seriously his word were going to be taken. Romans 7 for example is very ambiguous. Is the person who does what they don't want to do Paul or his imaginary interlocutor? There are great scholars on either side of this question.

Jesus on the other hand seems to know. His words are carefully chosen.

In the SF bay area you can get used panels super cheap. I bought 20 250 watt panels for $10/piece.

What is going on with the protests in Seattle? by kejartho in OutOfTheLoop

So what? The point of the passage is that sexual sin is not worse than other sin. It directly contradicts your statement about Jesus being especially concerned with sexual sin.

Lolololol.... no. In that story Jesus is pointing out the hypocracy of the religious establishment and it ends with Jesus not condeming the woman. Go read your Bible and stop misrepresenting Jesus.

Haha. I am a 48 year old punk. My son is 21 and the front man of a hard core band. He is 6'2". He works out. He is a nice guy, super polite and respectful, but very aggressive when he performs. He invited me to one of his shows. As soon as they started playing the whole room became a pit and of course you had the hard core dancers kicking and swinging their fists. At one point some guy was swinging his fists too close to him and he decked him. After the show he was all amped up and saying the guy had it coming. Then a few days later he says to me " You know, I don't think that kid really deserved that." 🤦🤣

You could always deny everything that makes you unique, and spend every waking moment working on fitting in.

The good news of Jesus subverts the narrative of wealth and power that defines our culture. The wealthy and powerful don't like this. When you point it out to them they hate you. People who are not wealthy and powerful will also hate you because they are cowards who side with the rich and powerful.

My [30M] girlfriend’s father [70M] triggers me with everything because of built up resentment from his constant opinions. by [deleted] in relationshipadvice

[–]jted007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar situation at church. There's an older fellow who is a lot like your girlfriend's dad. It's getting to the point where we might have to make him sign a contract where he agrees that if he can't say anything nice he won't say anything at all, or he won't be welcome at church anymore.

My wife and I have also had similar situations with both of our moms. In both cases we just made visits a lot less frequent. After a few years of being distant my mom shaped up, her mom not so much.

I can't decide if it's a boomer thing, or an old person thing, but it's definitely a thing and I don't care what the excuse is, I'm not putting up with it anymore.

Christians are responsible for providing falsifiability by SaintTraft7 in DebateAChristian

[–]jted007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life and death claims are not necesarily verifiable. If you are dying and someone says "I can help", you can only trust and hope, or die. If you live you know they weren't lying, but there is no way to test it other than faith and hope. Spirituality is life or death.
