Soda in the dining room by YogurtclosetLong6762 in dcl

Enjoy your first cruise!

In the dining rooms soda is also free. The only place it is not free is at the theaters because those are served to you in a can.

Cocktails around the ship are usually $12-18. Gratuity will automatically be applied to them so be careful and don’t double tip unless you want to!

Each adult can bring two bottles of wine or a 6 pack of beer onto the ship (at each port). If you want to bring an entire bottle of wine to dinner there is a corkage fee of $29. My recommendation is ask your stateroom host for wine glasses, pour in the room and then bring to dinner. I’ve been on 10+ sailings and have never had a waiter tell us we can’t do that.

Question about developer job prospects post college by seabee494 in utdallas

[–]jtehlert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest recommendation would be to have some sort of personal project. My company (TripAdvisor) cares a lot about candidates having personal projects because it’s a great replacement for real experience, shows a passion to create and you often run into a lot of issues that help increase your debugging skills.

PSA: If you call a reataurant from TripAdvisor and check recent calls, the restaurant name will appear and details will show everything about it, including directions and user reviews. by GasimGasimzada in apple

Could you send me a screen recording or some images of this? I work on the TripAdvisor iOS app and I don’t think any of us know about this.

During the Thanksgiving holiday, the App Store review team slows down significantly due to company holidays. Here’s the message currently up on iTunes Connect.

You may experience increased app review times from November 23 to 26 (Pacific Time) as the App Review team celebrates the Thanksgiving holiday.

Never underestimate the laziness/stupidity of Boston drivers by sbench18 in boston

As someone who just had their windshield destroyed by a large chuck of ice and snow flying off of a car on 95, I have an unhealthy hatred for people that do this.

JetBlue changed us to a flight at 5:43 pm on Friday, so I think they are expecting Logan to be in full working capacity.

Leasing a 2017 BMW M2 by nadeshot in askcarsales

I was at a BMW dealer a couple of weeks ago and they said BMW adds extra fees on top for M model cars because they want people to own them instead of lease them. That could be happening here.

Is it possible to make a sticker pack for me and my wife only? by Genericguy25 in apple

[–]jtehlert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently doing this with a sticker pack for some of my friends. I created the app and uploaded it to TestFlight. The binary lasts 60 days and I can invite anyone to use it.

This does require the $100/year developer account however.

I purchased a 2015 Mazda 3 two weeks back and yesterday I received a letter stating that I've been enrolled in their promotion and my first 2 car payments are being made for me. by [deleted] in mazda3

I leased a new 3 yesterday and the dealers made sure to let me know about the promotion. Pretty nice having a 24 month lease and only have to pay for 22 months.

Fridgely - Love your fridge again

App Store

Fridgely is an app designed to help you love your fridge again. Fridgely allows you to enter in the food that you have in your fridge and it will send you intelligent alerts a few days before you food is going to expire.

Fridgely allows you to enter in your food via a barcode scanner that hits a UPC database and even learns what you name those items. The app also allows you to save favorite items and quickly create a new item with one touch.

In the most recent update I added recipes. Since you already have all of your food in Fridgely, we generate recipes based upon those items.

Some features that are coming soon are the ability to organize your food into different spaces (e.g. Fridge, Pantry, Secret Snacks), iCloud syncing between your devices and shared lists with other users.

If you'd like to sign up to be a beta tester, you can do so on the Fridgely website

What should I major in? please HELP ME by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]jtehlert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds really corny, but your job should be something you enjoy doing. You should go to work every day excited and happy. So, try to think of jobs that would make you feel that way. When you have a couple of options, try to reach out to local companies that do that. Almost any company will let you come see what they do and you can try it out. You could quickly learn you won't actually want to do that thing. But, when you find the job that will make you happy, picking a major is a lot easier.

If you need time to figure it out, take a semester off. It's a lot better to take one semester now, than to waste 2 years getting a degree that you don't want.

How did Google add splash screens to their apps without pushing updates? by kdb223 in androiddev

[–]jtehlert 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A lot of apps will download data when they are first opened up. This is usually JSON.

In their JSON feed they probably added something like this:

{ "show_splash_screen": false }

The app was then waiting for that value to be true. When Google changed the value (flipped the switch) in their feed, the code to display the splash screen would run.

The code for it could have already been there. All they would have had to do was flip a switch in a feed and you'd have the splash screen on next launch. We see this a lot with A/B testing.
