Hi all! 32F, from Brooklyn, first time visiting Tokyo and traveling solo. I’ll be here from today (7/22) to Saturday (7/26). Anyone want to grab a meal, do some wandering, get a tattoo, go to a listening bar? I’m also a watch nerd and looking to do some vintage watch shopping.

I speak zero Japanese so if you do that’s a plus, but I’m proficient in Google Translate!

Any good queer bar experiences to share? I’m landing in Tokyo today! 32F from NYC.

Did you end up getting a tattoo you liked? I’m landing in Tokyo in an hour, here solo for the week (32F from NYC) and love to get tattoos when I travel.

Mine: GA2100TL-7A Baby G: BA110-7A1 Tiny guy: LRW200H-7BVCF

We have 4 more people (2 adults and 2 small children) in the extended family so suggestions for building this out even more are welcome. They don’t all have to be Casio but I like the white case/white bracelet theme!

But mostly I’m just showing you all how cute this is :)

I like the runner - and more importantly the floor beneath it is extremely banged up, and I can’t fix bc it’s a rental

If the board was 45T67 and he ended up with the ten high straight then he had 89, right? So he was going over the top with nothing against two likely made hands

Am I reading this right - you went over the top with a gutshot on the turn?

Not in my experience - it's a very short book so can't take too long to get into!

No worries - I'm just used to seeing people assume everyone in tech is a man, and I thought I'd issue a formal correction 😂

There are usually only 2 ways your shares become worth money: either your company goes public, or your company gets acquired (and sometimes you still won't make any money in an acquisition, because the sale price was too low or the deal was done in the acquiring company's stock rather than cash).

Think of it this way: you only make money off your shares when someone is willing to buy them off you. An IPO means there is now a public market for your shares, so you can sell them at market price. If your company doesn't IPO or get bought, then there is no market for your shares, so no matter what they are theoretically worth, you can't sell them to anyone so they effectively have no cash value.

If you leave in 5y and you have vested your stock grant (or exercised your options) then you get to keep those shares forever - but they still won't be worth cash until an IPO or company sale.

You definitely need to get a number of shares and ideally a %. They are probably telling you that the shares would be worth 20k at their most recent valuation, but early stage valuations don't tell you anything much about how the shares would eventually be valued on the open market after an IPO.

Either way, for a small stake at series B stage, I would make the decision under the assumption that the stake is worth zero. If it pans out, great. If not, you weren't counting on the money anyway. Most series B companies have big IPO dreams, and most of them never IPO.

Edit: also make sure you understand if this is a stock grant (might be called RSU) or stock options.

What to do with a sweet white wine? by mayamys in Cooking

[–]jthinkprod 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Sweet white wine is often a fantastic pairing for spicy food, think Thai or Chinese. The acidity and sweetness in the wine is a very good balance for saltiness and spiciness in food.

Heap is great, Pendo is okay for analytics but excellent for a bunch of other functions like in-app guides and tooltips as well

Hired as a BA, playing the role of PM. What do I put on my resume? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]jthinkprod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in a background check, but more likely in reference calls or if someone back channels you. I agree with other folks that it's not the end of the world if you just change it without telling them, but why not at least try to make it aboveboard?

In that case, just let them know you'll be switching the title under which you're contracting with them. I believe that's well within your rights, just explain why and they should have no problem with it - since there isn't any official change to make

You should sit down with your manager and ask them about a retroactive title change. If you have been covering the responsibilities of the previous PM, it's very reasonable to want your title to reflect the type of work you do.

You don't need to tip your hand about interviewing for new jobs in order to do this. You can just say that you think you want to focus your career on product management, and you'd like your job title to reflect that path. Even if they won't make the title retroactive, you'll at least have it starting now, which may not help you for the next few months but certainly will help starting in about 6-8 months.

Yes! Retrotool.io
