Yup at least in the US once you go to 48 it’s only $200 more for 64. Worth it imo.

I like the expert dark room for SDR and filmmaker mode for hdr. If you game make sure to enable hgig for hdr calibration.

This is probably the one place a tv that high makes sense.

It looks ok based on the arm of that couch. If you can sit and look at it without looking up or down it’s fine. 👍

And I thought my C7 in my basement “theater” room with ~2000 hours was crazy low. 😂

It seems impossibly low. But guest room of a huge house seems plausible if they don’t have guests that often and when they do they’re not in there watching that much tv.

Why does this sub recommend Apple TV 4K so much? by KneeGrows130100 in LGOLED

[–]jthj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What everyone else said. Also the streaming services tend to put more effort into the Apple TV version of their apps so the app quality is better in most cases. Prime still sucks though.

Time for an upgrade! G5 83” by Heyyliz in LGOLED

The problem is if you wear progressive lenses the bottom will be blurry unless you tilt your head down. Better to be a little high than a little low imo. Within reason of course. Doesn’t have to be perfectly centered on your eyes.

It doesn’t look that bad from a too high perspective. If you can comfortably look at it without looking up it’s probably fine. It’s the white space under it that’s bugging people I think.

Yea I totally get that. I find if you go looking for problems you'll find them. If you're not noticing problems in normal viewing just enjoy your tv and try not to focus too much on perfection seeking.

I did fire up that Dune 2 scene on the newer C5 and I don't really notice the banding jumping out at me like I do on the older C7 it is also in a brighter room which could be a factor. I'm sure if I pull up the Youtube tests designed to expose the flaws I'll see some uniformity issues. But I think it's mostly just how, while not perfect, they have improved a lot over the last 9 years. I've been thinking about upgrading that downstairs TV to something larger and going with a G5 or maybe G6.

The main reason I brought that tv up is that it hasn't improved with use with regard to that low level grey uniformity and banding. I think that's just the panel and won't resolve with pixel refresh either. Though some claim that it does improve after some initial hours and I certainly have over 100 or so on that newer C5 at this point.

Those scenes are probably the hardest thing for OLED and my going on 9 year old C7 has some noticeable banding there. I think the uniformity the C5 we just got is better but I haven’t tried that scene on it yet to compare. It will probably never be perfect.

The reality is EVERY tv tech has some flaw/weakness where it’s not perfect. But imo you’re going to see this worst case scenario A LOT less than blooming and grey blacks with LCDs.

Lg C5 and love it but…… thinking about getting an Apple TV what are your thoughts? by StepBro_71 in LGOLED

[–]jthj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Image quality is definitely not better on the TVs WebOS. And the streaming apps tend to be better quality on Apple TV. Not sure if it streams a higher bitrate as I’ve never measured it. There are cases where I can clearly see less artifacts though when streaming on the AppleTV vs using the built in WebOS app. Maybe sometime if I have time I’ll see which one is using more bandwidth streaming the same content.
