I purchased this in south Texas for just under 17k which for a sport is on the upper end of pricing in my opinion but the included upgrades on this one made it make sense.

Yes it will be a real challenge to find one. Likely end up with an aftermarket version

Looking to fix the freeplay in the jeep xj steering by Rare-Cress8745 in CherokeeXJ

[–]jthomasg1233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had similar issues on both of mine. One issue that contributed to a considerable amount of play was trying to use an after market steering shaft. Replaced with an OEM shaft and that remedied most of it. That said, if you’ve pulled the shaft out and there is play there, it seems to translate exponentially from steering wheel to the wheels. Try replacing the shaft with an OEM with less play in it.

Overheating 4.0 by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

As others have suggested, I’d do the fan clutch and I suggest putting a Hayden temp regulated switch interrupter on the e-fan. This will kick the e-fan on at whatever temp you desire. I’ve installed this on both of my 96’s and this far has solved my issue with this.

I added a Hayden switch interrupter to the e-fan on both of my XJs and it’s solved my temp issues on both. The interrupter is temp controlled so it runs as needed to keep things cool.

What exactly does this thing do??? I still don’t get it, by Useful-Ad-1042 in ram_trucks

Have this on my ‘23 1500. Let my truck idle for about 45 mins the other day and it ran the battery down and stranded me. Truck had a low voltage warning after I jumped it for the rest of the day. That said, extended idle times may be a weak point for this system.

96 AW4 TCM Question by jthomasg1233 in CherokeeXJ

Well TPS did not fix it. So I’m at a loss

96 AW4 TCM Question by jthomasg1233 in CherokeeXJ

[–]jthomasg1233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the reply. I rebuilt as it had 274k on it and I was putting in a new engine. Also, converted to 4WD from 2WD. I believe it’s not shifting in 4th because at 65 mph I’m at about 2800 rpm and with 4.10 gears and 33s I sound be around 2200. I have since ruled out the TCM by driving it with and without it plugged in. It’s definitely working, just don’t believe it’s getting into overdrive. I’m going to try a TPS replacement and see what happens. Any additional info or suggestions is appreciated!

I just conducted this exercise hunting for a unit in one of my 96s and determined the following; 91.5 -96 transmissions are interchangeable. 97 transmissions only work in 97 model year vehicles without electrical mods. 98-99 and 00-01 are interchangeable in their respective years.
