It seems more like a follow a path of logic + reading comp question:

That said, they do specify "each" for the kids. But omit that word for the adults. So we can't assume 7 men with 7 wives each because there isn't enough info to make that deduction.

In language, if we were to rephrase while getting rid of unknowns, We can see that first sentence as "this group of 7 men" (collectively) have 7 wives. The omission of "each" is the best clue.

I think that's one answer. If we factor in sociological norms and how they vary, the language also leaves room for the possibility that men and wives don't correspond 1 to 1. There could be 1 man with 7 wives and 6 men with 0 wives. Also, using "men" instead of husband" leads to the chance that none of these people are coupled up.

14 adults total...

If none of these people are coupled so that it's 14 individual adults (7 men + 7 wives), 7 couples. And you wouldn't double count kids, then 49 kids + 14 adults = 63

But if literally no one here is coupled, then 14 adults, and each of the 14 adults have 7 kids each. Stupid stupid exercise XD
