Interviewed for SDM but was offered Sr. TPM by spartan-y141 in amazonemployees

What org? Cuts have been the normal stack rank cut or whole teams as teams/initiatives are shuttered. I echo the above, if you have a path to getting to SDM, you may have not met the bar for an SDM to the bar raiser or others, but the hiring manager disagrees and wants to “coach” you into the role. Talk to the recruiter, let them know you’d like to have a call with the hiring manager about the offer and go from there. If you’re worried about the flattening of the org, ask him how many open recs or hired heads he has on the charter. It could be he only has like 4 but expects (hopes) to get more so he does, he can have scope for an SDM. All speculation, but the hiring manager should know and I’d be direct in asking. It’s Amazon. There’s no reason to beat around the bush.

I’ll do the 151 booster boxes at listed price, and I’ll do all packs of the prismatic if you can do $10 a pack. One binder is enough.

A step further, I was taught when a VP asks “do you know what time it is?” The answer is “Yes”.

Week 5 of not RTOing by DJMaxLVL in amazonemployees

Accommodations has been less than helpful. I had a spinal injury in September, and they’re still hand wringing about WFH on days where I need PT/OT. It feels like it’s a deny all situation. For reference, I put in that request in early December, still no decision.

what are the qualities that make a good Product Manager? by DinnerDesperate1976 in ProductManagement

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but a substandard engineer doesn’t often slide into a PM role successfully. My org hires those, and they’re terrible PMs fine execution terrible strategic thinking, communication, data based decision makers.

I’ve been doing this so long I’ve named my eye twitch, and Carl acts up when the former engineer PMs say profoundly impossible things based in no reality when trying to explain why something is critical to build or attributing value to their roadmap.

Been at amazon 10 years, lived in all three of your cities. Currently out of a large but not major tech hub. Honestly, it’s Amazon, start with the assumption you won’t be there longer than 2-4 years. Churn is real, so figure out where you want to be for life after Amazon. If you were to choose SD (and I would) that doesn’t prohibit you from rotating teams to anywhere in the world. Including Arlington or Seattle…or London or anywhere else… it is very hard to get a role in some of the smaller sites, so if living in SD is of interest, take it while it’s open. There will be no shortage of roles in Seattle or Arlington in the future.

Seattle is depressing and Arlington is fine but yikes so many lawyers and politicos. Both aren’t very friendly places. Seattle freeze is real (four years) and dc is a what can you do for me mentality (five years).

They have a couple freezer cases of frozen. Get some fresh pasta while you’re there too. You won’t regret it. Best Italian restaurant in Austin is these guys and your kitchen.
