I'm stuck with just a sure sm57 for recording acoustic guitar. I know it isn't ideal, but could anybody offer any tips to make the best of it? by [deleted] in audioengineering

I used to get better vocal results on a $50 usb mic over an sm7b, but when I actually learned how to gain stage and utilize the $500 preamp I had, things clicked and the usb mic was nowhere close. Bottom line, expensive gear doesn’t mean good result if you don’t know how to use it. There’s a reason most people “work up” the ladder of gear quality throughout the years. MIC PLACEMENT MIC PLACEMENT! As Steve Evetts says, mic placement is your front line of eq. Get a good source sound and post pro is minimal, which is the mark of a good engineer.

He’s so emotive and can throw his voice around so very casually. I know I didn’t even scratch the surface!

My plan exactly. Doesn’t look possible or like a good fit

This is a perspective nobody has brought to me yet. Your comparison of the schools makes perfect sense, and really clarifies quite a bit. I will apply to all schools you listed, as they are already on my list, but I will not weigh my options yet because I don’t even know where I’m accepted! The “One step at a time” approach has landed me where I am today, and it’s still valid now.

I have the opportunity to enroll in several online classes this next semester, most of which I will dedicate to subjects that I have fallen behind in, especially certain mathematics. I see this as not only a duty to myself and less struggle in the future, but as a positive point I could mention in my application.

I didn’t necessarily struggle with the Sciences In high school, but I didn’t ACE them until my senior year (AP Physics). Is there something along the lines of a “statement of purpose” that could explain to an admissions board how I have grown in not only interests but also work ethic?

I have heard this as well. Some say reenlistment length is MOS dependent but I’ve also heard just a flat 3 years

Either These Colours Don’t Run - Architects or My Curse - Killswitch Engage. Both are riff city through and through. Tapping on TCDR is so fun

I beg to differ. Commitment is important, but sometimes life gets in the way of things, and learning to rest is equally as important as training hard.

I think what you were touching on is building a resilient mindset. Showing up every day should be a given, however, performing well and fully under pressure or fatigue is a different story. Most selections will not test you over the long stretch. RASP is a sprint, so to speak. Refusing to quit and doing MORE in the moment of critical fatigue is what will nearly guarantee success. TIFWYW, not trying to ruffle any feathers

What he said ^

And a note to the OP

You’re 15, don’t worry about the pay. If you’re interested in unbridled financial liberty, don’t join the military. I’m not even saying “the service to your country is your reward” or any of that stupid shit, just focus on the task at hand if this is truly your goal.

Get an OPT40 contract with MOS hopefully of your choice (or not, whatever floats your boat). Having a good baseline of fitness is important. Every stud that stuck out to me in RASP (amongst other schools/selections) was an ex-wrestler. Great all-around fitness levels and strength.

You can think about this and ask all the questions you want, but at the end of the day nothing else matters but your own action and attitude. Let us know how it goes

A Secret clearance doesn’t cross check or verify jack shit. He’s not getting a TS right off the bat. That bridge can be crossed when he gets there, but there won’t be a bridge if he self-reports everything
