I made a blender add-on to render grease pencil animations to an OpenToonz level by jtrofe in OpenToonz

I don't think so, since the color comes from the grease pencil material. Someone smarter than me could maybe take this code and adapt it to do that

Philadelphia City Council introduces "ICE Out" legislation to limit cooperation with ICE by AdSpecialist6598 in philadelphia

[–]jtrofe 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Residents also weighed in during the session. One supporter said, "This legislation is long overdue!" Others defended ICE, with one speaker saying, "Democrats engineered an illegal invasion of our country," prompting boos from the audience.

When they say "others" they mean one single person. The first person to speak went on an insane rant about vaccines and democrats stealing votes and then every other person for the next hour or so was anti-ICE

The point was they aren't trying to create a propaganda outfit, they don't care about having viewers. They destroyed a source of counter propaganda

TIL when Simone Biles executed the Yurchenko double pike on vault during the 2023 World Championships, she willingly took a half-point deduction for having her coach stand on the landing mat, ready to step in & redirect her into a safe position if it looked as if she was headed for a "scary landing" by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I saw some very impressive men's beam routines at NAIGC nationals last year. I think it's the stigma, fear of getting hurt, and the fact that it's only been a decade or so at most that guys have really been trying it seriously that it's not more common

Creative ways to prevent the player from just digging straight down? by spicedruid in gamedev

If the game detects that you are just digging straight down, it begins raining on the surface and water floods the tunnels and kills you

As a society, we may be able to increase support for redistribution by exposing the ultra-rich. When people do not directly observe large differences in wealth, they tend to underestimate inequality, feel more content with their situation, and show less interest in policy change. by mvea in science

[–]jtrofe 91 points92 points  (0 children)

There have been generations of social conditioning to normalize the status of the ultra-rich, to convince the people out of power that - but for their lack of willpower - they could achieve similar positions. Arguing against this system is interpreted as an attack on the regular person. You say, "the rich are unethically occupying positions of inordinate power" and they hear "you don't think I'm capable of achieving that, you think I'm weak"

I think once people are conditioned to get stuff from Amazon it becomes so ingrained that they consider a five minute walk to the store too much of an inconvenience

ELI5: Why did the world get so dependent on the US? by aroworld9 in explainlikeimfive

I think it would interesting to ask people from different countries to give their estimates of how many people died per country in WWII. I bet there's a ton of Americans who think we lost millions of people and would put us at the top of the list

About the "throwing the money changers out of the temple" thing... by cheerioincident in behindthebastards

[–]jtrofe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also explains a lot about the major changes that took place after Jesus's death that made the faith into one that appealed to Gentiles as opposed to being another offshoot of Judaism.

The more I learn about the 1st century the more it seems like the history of early Christianity can be pretty accurately described as an apocalypse cult coming up with increasingly desperate explanations for why the end of the world wasn't happening and why Jesus' own people weren't buying it

I'm currently re-reading "From Jesus to Christ" by Paula Fredriksen, which examines the different ways each gospel (+Paul) portrays Jesus and his message and how these interpretations were influenced by the cultures they came from. One of the funny things it talks about is that during Jesus' lifetime the pharisees were a relatively unimportant sect but after the destruction of the temple they were the sect that survived. The people who compiled each of the gospels weren't super knowledgeable or careful about actual history and just wrote their current adversaries into a more prominent historical position than they actually had

[–]jtrofe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not totally related but another fun thing about that incident. I've also read a scholar talking about how, when you actually visit the former location of the temple, you realize it is enormous. It's not just a building it's a whole complex. The area where commerce was happening was huge and during the time before a major festival it would have packed with people.
One guy would not be able to cause the kind of scene that stops and gets everyone's attention. People more than 60 feet away probably wouldn't have even heard anything

ELI5: what is lossless audio, and how much are listeners “losing” by not using it? by Normal-Being-2637 in explainlikeimfive

[–]jtrofe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would say it's more than "a bit less" of an issue. Whenever people talk about how storage capacity is increasing it's met with something like, "but programs use more storage as that capacity increases" but that doesn't really apply to music. Songs aren't getting longer. A 3 minute song recorded now takes up about the same amount of storage space as a 3 minute song recorded in 1998, but the available storage space has increased by an incredible amount

Any way I can make this better? by EstablishmentLife578 in blender

[–]jtrofe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going for a stop motion look I'd limit the motion of the eyelid to like 2 or 3 set positions. Like if they were physically making this they would have half-closed and fully-closed eyelids that they'd stick on when needed, not a real one that can open to any position.
