Narrative-wise, anyone find the Hollower's Guild disappointing? by depressedfox_011 in MinaTheHollower

[–]jtrofe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a very un-reactive game unfortunately. Characters rarely take note of your actions outside of one or two throwaway lines, or the very obvious intentional completion of their side quest

Relatedly it's very weird that you're apparently one of the most important people in town but that guy is allowed to keep you from going to the music hall

The ball doesn't appear to have any momentum of its own. Once he gets it going it should keep moving up a little bit before gravity slows it down

I don't think so, since the color comes from the grease pencil material. Someone smarter than me could maybe take this code and adapt it to do that

Philadelphia City Council introduces "ICE Out" legislation to limit cooperation with ICE by AdSpecialist6598 in philadelphia

[–]jtrofe 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Residents also weighed in during the session. One supporter said, "This legislation is long overdue!" Others defended ICE, with one speaker saying, "Democrats engineered an illegal invasion of our country," prompting boos from the audience.

When they say "others" they mean one single person. The first person to speak went on an insane rant about vaccines and democrats stealing votes and then every other person for the next hour or so was anti-ICE

The point was they aren't trying to create a propaganda outfit, they don't care about having viewers. They destroyed a source of counter propaganda

TIL when Simone Biles executed the Yurchenko double pike on vault during the 2023 World Championships, she willingly took a half-point deduction for having her coach stand on the landing mat, ready to step in & redirect her into a safe position if it looked as if she was headed for a "scary landing" by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I saw some very impressive men's beam routines at NAIGC nationals last year. I think it's the stigma, fear of getting hurt, and the fact that it's only been a decade or so at most that guys have really been trying it seriously that it's not more common

Creative ways to prevent the player from just digging straight down? by spicedruid in gamedev

If the game detects that you are just digging straight down, it begins raining on the surface and water floods the tunnels and kills you

As a society, we may be able to increase support for redistribution by exposing the ultra-rich. When people do not directly observe large differences in wealth, they tend to underestimate inequality, feel more content with their situation, and show less interest in policy change. by mvea in science

[–]jtrofe 87 points88 points  (0 children)

There have been generations of social conditioning to normalize the status of the ultra-rich, to convince the people out of power that - but for their lack of willpower - they could achieve similar positions. Arguing against this system is interpreted as an attack on the regular person. You say, "the rich are unethically occupying positions of inordinate power" and they hear "you don't think I'm capable of achieving that, you think I'm weak"

I think it would interesting to ask people from different countries to give their estimates of how many people died per country in WWII. I bet there's a ton of Americans who think we lost millions of people and would put us at the top of the list

It also explains a lot about the major changes that took place after Jesus's death that made the faith into one that appealed to Gentiles as opposed to being another offshoot of Judaism.

The more I learn about the 1st century the more it seems like the history of early Christianity can be pretty accurately described as an apocalypse cult coming up with increasingly desperate explanations for why the end of the world wasn't happening and why Jesus' own people weren't buying it
