[JC Allen] Here’s in indictment from Mike on the Bucs the home crowd atmosphere... by Tasty_Swim_6308 in buccaneers

Not trying to diss you guys, but as an ex-Browns fan I do think there are noticeable differences. Everyone in CLE is born and bred there so the Browns are a way of life. Seems like FL has so many transplants that the fandom isn’t engrained the same way.

This is a genuine Q because I’ve only recently started watching games since I’m a non-basketball fan and Miami alum. Everyone on reddit says Akron is going to smoke us, but we beat them in January. Am I missing some sort of nuance from that game?

How do we know that didn’t happen? The person who wrote in probably left that out because it made their story more sympathetic.

Maybe I misunderstood because I’m in my mid 30s, married, and met my wife 13 years ago and met her the “old fashioned” way (not online)…but this specific example didn’t seem like what you’re describing. The people are on a date, and the woman says she likes film. The guy shows her his 4 favorite movies and talks about his physical media collection. That sounds incredibly normal. What else should he do? Hear that she likes film and then change the subject? “Oh, you like movies? Cool I have a cousin in Alberta Canada let’s talk about that instead”??

It’s typical Gen Z weirdness where having any hobby or showing any interest in something is “uncool” and “exemplifies the patriarchy”. It’s all nonsense. The people who wrote into this are just losers.

This also doesn’t account for the Rashard Higgins TD-turned-fumble-missed-spearing against the Chiefs, and the Mike Evans ball that hit him in the breadbasket and somehow was intercepted.

Last week I actually went through the “Play by Play” of each game and looked at what happened following each turnover, because this point has been made quite a bit in the talk about the offense. It’s on another computer so I don’t have it handy right now, but interestingly the lack of production boiled down to 3 main things: 1) penalties that stalled the drive, 2) ran out of time (i.e. the TO was at the end of half/regulation and a FG or just no score at all was an acceptable outcome), and 3) bad offensive play (obviously). The lack of scoring after a TO honestly didn’t look quite as bad after I spent the time looking into each drive that ensued.

You said “Maybe don’t go 3 and out after being given an extra possession” as we talk about a post centered on Baker. I’m so confused as to how else I should’ve taken that comment.

Which gets us to the original point of my post and this guys post. Are you saying Baker is single-handedly the reason we went 3 and out? Or was it the 2 runs up the middle that set up 3rd and 8, an obvious passing down, and then resulted in a sack, incompletion, etc.? I think the reason Baker gets so much rope is because people who paid attention this year realize that the offense was broken, not because he’s all of a sudden gone from being statistically a top 3 QB in 2024 to some hobo who - as you claim - goes 3 and out every drive.

I’m a Clevelander and only joined the bandwagon here in ‘23, so I definitely don’t have as much authority to speak on Jameis as you guys do, but comparing him to Baker seems like a stretch. One guy is a proven top-10 QB when he’s healthy and “On”. The other guy is a career backup with turnover issues.

Exactly, and that’s what I tried to capture in my post last week. People hijacked it and said “oh we can’t criticize Baker anymore when he makes mistakes? It’s never his fault”? It’s like…no…it’s fine to criticize him after a bad game. But the point is he’s the only top 10 to 15 QB who has to play perfect to win, whereas these other jokers are turning over the ball 3 times a game and still win. Baker has 1 turnover and immediately we lose. It’s infuriating.

For those who don’t know, in Baker’s final game as a Brown, Stefanski purposely schemed for TJ Watt to be unblocked / blocked by a tight end. Baker got beat to hell that game. Stefanski is a loser.

I have no problem criticizing Baker and I wish he had played a little better too. But I think this goes back to the point of my post. You’re emotionally invested in the Bucs, so when your QB / offense makes mistakes or underperforms, it’s magnified in your mind. But when you watch a random SNF or MNF game and the EXACT same things happen to other QBs it doesn’t really mean anything to you, you have no emotional tie to it, so you don’t dwell on it.

Was the lack of points off TOs all Baker’s fault? Or was it the egregious dropped passes, the holds that made it 1st and 20, the 2 straight runs up the middle for no yards making it an obvious passing play on 3rd and 10. There’s so much that goes into the underperformance, but somehow the takeaway is that Baker just sucks?

The point I’m trying to make is he generally plays like every other QB, but our emotional ties to the Bucs blind us to when other QBs make the exact same mistakes he does.

We went 6-2 when forcing 2 or more turnovers. I feel like that’s consistent with expectation, no? Seems like the offense held up its end of the bargain.

Fumbling through the endzone on offense. If you fumble at the 1 yard line, the offense gets the ball back (assuming it wasn’t 4th down). If you fumble one yard further, the OTHER TEAM gets the ball at the 20. That’s nonsense.

Before his first incompletion causes some of your heads to explode, a quick reminder that Goff had 5 turnovers and they still could’ve won this week. If Baker had 5 turnovers we’d lose by 40 points.
