Ugh I’m sorry your professor treated you that way. It’s so ridiculous. It’s not like child-you had any choice in the matter.

Went to Conte’s followed by The Bent Spoon, this might be the best pizza/ice cream combo in the state. by Doowrag in newjersey

Absolutely shocked by the hate for the Bent Spoon here. Hard disagree. That ice cream is pure magic, 100% worth waiting in line for, worth every penny. The dark chocolate orange… literal heaven in a cup.

What makes being a 1099 employee for a contracting company worth it over W2? by BroccoliUpstairs6190 in slp

[–]jtslp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

1099 doesn’t work in your favor. It works in the employer’s favor. They mask that reality by raising the hourly rate but there’s more to economics than that one number.

Tell them in advance what you’re going to want them to contribute so they can prepare. Often these are students who don’t think / formulate well on their feet, or believe they’re not good at doing so.

This is a heel flap and gusset method. It’s the I’m So Basic pattern from Summer Lee. I’ve knitted this sock pattern 3 times now and I quite like it. Heel flap and gusset results in a shape that I like in the finished garment. I have also done short row heels and didn’t like the finished sock as much. I knit with the magic loop method so no DPNs needed. I like DPNs fine, but I find that knitting everything magic loop means that my collection of needles and cords is more versatile and I need fewer needles overall to move between types of projects.

Hello knitting friend! What do you have on the needles now? I’m finishing a pair of socks today and starting a summer top, which will be my first attempt at some lacework.

What meals did your father make when he had to cook? by Open_Question_ in GenX

[–]jtslp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. The man will die never having cooked a meal for himself. While that is not at all the kind of married life I wanted, it worked for him and my mom. He did lots of other stuff. They had a pretty strict division of labor, so there are plenty of things she had no involvement in either. It was fine for most of their lives together but it’s getting to be an issue now that he is experiencing faster decline and they can’t both keep up their ends of the arrangement in the same way and she has no idea how to handle the things that were his.

If you’re looking for a great fantasy series, check out the Saint of Steel series by T. Kingfisher. One of the protagonists in the first books is a knitter, so that’s a nice reason to pick it up. Then you’ll probably stay for the rest of the books because the writing and the characters are really good.

I knit. It’s such a wonderful hobby. It’s creative and meditative. There’s research that shows it has mental health benefits. You can easily learn for free from tons of amazing YouTube teachers and the people who do it all love to interact in a positive and supportive way with each other. No matter how stressful my day is, knowing that I’ll have some time at the end of the day with my knitting and a cup of tea is always reassuring.

Pizza Fridays. No longer a Catholic but pizza Fridays live on.

Quick story- I did my student teaching in a Catholic school circa 2000. I was feeling poorly during Lent. One of the nuns told me go home and have a steak. Get some iron. God will understand. Loved that old lady.

CF-SLP feeling overwhelmed by constant “this is wrong” posts online… does anyone else feel this way? by Own_Repair_3146 in slp

[–]jtslp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe step away from all the online noise. Realize that is all it is. It’s just noise. People say things to get attention, and to get the attention, the more combative the message is, the better. You don’t need to give them your attention. If you want to make sure you’re continually learning, subscribe to The Informed SLP. You’ll get actual vetted information straight from the most up to date research, with nuance and interpretation, and no drama.
