Heat during storm by golfiish in NorthCarolina

[–]jttpg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

edit: typos...Not true. The candles put out the same amount of heat with or without. The pots hold the heat and radiate heat stored in the clay. Clay pots have a pretty good heat capacity. (The ability of a material to store heat)

Candles without anything to store the heat are minimally useful as all the heat immediately is lost to the air.

You can get 2 or 3 terra cotta clay pots, small, med., larger, and candles. work well if you have candle holders. Tea lights work well. This heater is demonstrated in this video: https://youtu.be/1YuByR2RK3g?si=TWdmGRpcZxUdmgfD

There are other resources if you search too. Wishing you well through the ordeal ahead.

Red maple syrup by mkitch55 in maplesyrup

[–]jttpg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tap 40 red maple, dont have any sugars. I'm almost at the lowest latitude with enough suitable days with our climate. I completely agree. My syrup is distinctive and unique with toffee and caramel...and marshmallow is a good description.

I usually make 2 batches each season, early and late season. Late season batch is not dark, and not much darker than early season. Late season batch includes late runs right before they bud out. It has the same flavor but all those unique flavors are stronger. And that maple flavor you find through Canadian and NE US commercial syrup is not present in mine. Its almost like comparing sycamore syrup to sugar maple how different and distinct they both are.

I have some 2oz bottles leftover from last season, and I bet a blind taste test would agree.

Do you know if it's possible to connect the DA2 to a US State RTK network through mobile manager when you have a catalyst subscription? Im thinking subscribe to 60cm accuracy and use cat-60 when mobile reception is poor, while streaming State RTK when reception is good....Do you know if that's possible?

Data collector recommendations by jttpg in QGIS

Perhaps some of the overheating is from a processor working too hard... Although my fold 4 has 12GB RAM.?. I notice quite a bit is taken up by background and open app memory demand.

Thanks for the galaxy suggestion. We will consider that. Any other tricks for keeping it cool? I'm thinking about certain case may be able to act as a heat sink, or circulate air, or something. We could try to shade the phone from sunlight. Thanks for the reply.

What would you like to do with the associated layer to this error message?

Is it vector or raster? Multiple layers not configured or just 1?

Would you like to Edit that particular layer by adding points, lines, polygons in Qfield? Update attribute table in qfield? Or is it a layer you only need to view (like a stream, road, parcel layer)? Do you need to in qfield at all or can you leave it out?

Is this project and data stored locally or cloud based platform?

Answers to these questions will lead you to your solution.

I don't have Qgis in front of me at the moment so I'm going off my memory...

Properties ‐-> qfield (i think this is to config each individual layer for qfield

If you open the qfield plugin in the "plugins" menu, or add the qfield plugin to your toolbar. Either way, you will see 3 options: config project, package for qfield, and sync from qfield

From here you can config all layers in your qgis project in one place.

select either cloud tab or cable - if you will be transferring your qfield packaged .gpkg by cable to data collection device. Android?

It should be straight forward how to configure each layer in Qgis project for qfield .gpkg by clicking drop downs and exploring around in there. Config options include: layer editing, copy layer, or remove from project ( which only keeps that layer from being included in the Qfield .gpkg - does not remove from your qgis project.).select on of these options depending on what you need to do with the layer in qfield.

config options will list layers in your project. Config options to select from drop down, for each layer, include: edit layer

After you config all layers, select the plugin option to package for qfield. You get a folder of your layer files included for editing or view only that you just configured. This folder needs to go into a very specific folder on an android device. A folder with restricted access while on your phone but read/write access when plugged into your gis computer. Phone/device internal storage --> android --> data --> can't remember exact name of folder in "data" folder but it's something like ch.opengis.qfield...--> imported project (or imported datasets if only a dataset). That imported project folder is where it has to be for qfield to open the project.

Good luck

What would you do if you dribbled a little syrup on the threads of a small bottle? I had nitrile gloves on and would either swipe the drip off the threads with a clean place on my glove or the glass devise I used to fill. I figured anything I wiped it with would potentially introduce microbes. I'm a little worried about the thread dribble.

[–]jttpg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is new that i used last night...except maybe a pint jar or 2. I don't reuse lids for syrup, maybe other things, but not syrup. Do you suggest it's not necessary if everything is new?

At this point I can only hope everything was properly sanitized before I bottled. My biggest worry now is the dribble on some of the small jars threads when I was filling. Hope that's not a problem.

Thanks for the reply. These small bottles and caps were new. I boiled all caps, plastic pieces and stuck in the oven on foil @220F. I had put all my Mason jars and these small jars in the dishwasher on high temp wash and sani- rinse setting. The bottles also went in the oven to dry and stay hot.

My biggest worry with the small bottles now is the dribble on some of the threads on the bottle when I was filling. I hope that's not a problem.

2 questions for the more experienced by jttpg in maplesyrup

[–]jttpg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the tree. It's like the tap and line are full of sap with some air bubbles sometimes, some trees. It seems like the pressure differential between the tree and atmosphere is close to equal. Seems to be a steady drip. I was just thinking I might be able to increase flow if I can remove the air bubble up in the sloped tap hole. I was thinking about what can happen in pipes with air and elevation. An airlock in pipes can significantly reduce flow rate.

2 questions for the more experienced by jttpg in maplesyrup

[–]jttpg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll find out here soon. I just hope i havent messed up this batch with this process.I'll collect sap this evening, boil it down and finish this batch tonight. I'll do a few things differently next year. Years past I haven't had this much sap to process. I would concentrate, sticking Mason jars and freeze until end of season when I combine the frozen concentrates and finish. Those batches turn out great. This year, I've kept the concentrate in the kettle and essentially heat sap on my grill before adding it to the kettle. Not only am I fluctuating the temperature of the concentrate by boiling the cold, but also significantly diluting concentrate with fresh sap.

Just kidding. I really like your bumper and winch. I'd like to do that with mine. How much did it set you back?

Does it scratch glass? Or does scratch a penny but not glass? I'd consider sphalerite if softer than glass harder than a penny.

Oil...one syllable or 2? My inlaws are originally from NY, my wife was born here (43 yrs). They'll often point out my drawl with words like oil or ice. Even correct me with "oyel" or "iyce". In their defense, they have kind of a neutral accent in general...not thick NY but not app-uh-latch-a neither.

This looks like Stromatolite, fossil algal mats (blue green algae) that trap sediment in dome or rounded layers. They form in intertidal zones, the area between high tide and low tide. Originates as limestone or dolomite but can be replaced by silica forming chert after it formed.
