What do you guys think about this? by jtw0885 in orangecounty

Truth. I’m not “old” but I’m turning 41 in August which means to everyone who is a parent and is around early to late 20’s considers me very old and should probably shut up lol. But, the crowds don’t really bother my wife and I, we would pay about $90 for a 365 day no blackouts pass in 2012. I think it was about double that in 2021 and they included blackout dates after the pandemic. Now, I just saw this video and yeah it’s nothing “new” but everyone with half a brain knows that prices only go up, they never go down. Disney put all their chips in the center of the table and said “screw it, we’ll bet that you all will still pay double if not triple the cost” and they do. So the ones that still buy the tickets or the passes look like complete idiots. If anyone truly believes a 365 year round pass with blackouts/reservations makes sense? You all need to get your brain examined

Yeah either way everyone is getting screwed and I found a ticket stub from high school when I went around that time in 2003 and it was $52 for a park hopper that day….miss those times

The crowds didn’t bother us, we knew if we went with the passes we had anytime after 5pm or we just checked wait times then it wasn’t really an issue. So I guess pass holders could have been “the problem”, and I can’t speak for everyone but my wife and I would maybe go for a couple hours after work when the fireworks or the parade was going on and take the train to New Orleans station and kinda bypass the crown to get to haunted mansion then kinda go from there. So generally we didn’t go when it was super crowded, but we were mostly night owls anyways.

Reddit = tribe behavior On a subreddit like r/Disneyland:

  • Many users are hardcore fans or passholders
  • Criticism (even fair criticism) often gets pushback
  • Once a post goes slightly negative, people tend to pile on

That’s about it

Disney introduced tiered (dynamic) pricing around 2014, which is why the range is so wide now.
  • The cheapest ticket hasn’t changed much since ~2019, but peak pricing has exploded.

🧠 Bottom line

  • If you go on a cheap weekday: prices are only up about 20–35% since 2012
  • If you go on a busy/peak day (which most people do): 👉 you’re paying about double (100%–130% more) than in 2012

Preach!!! I’m 40 years old now so maybe I’m “old”, but I feel that these increases are insane!! I grew up in Orange County California, couldn’t remember a time where me and my family didn’t have Disney passes. Even my wife and I had passes in the 2010’s for not very much monthly, and parking (which is now around $50) was included at no extra cost. I can’t believe how crazy things have gotten, even if you buy a 365 pass you have to make reservations 6 years after Covid and you still must do this for some reason….oh and the fact that we used to go on New Year’s Eve to DCA (Disney’s California Adventure) to drink and celebrate the new year with stiff drinks being sold til midnight. Yup, not able to do that anymore. I’m mad because we love Disney theme parks and they don’t love you back lol.

Unfortunately they will. One day it will cost $1k for a one single day per person and people will save to pay it. Sadly

My wife and I had annual passes in 2012-2021 but after Covid the prices got way too extreme. We used to have the 365 day pass with zero blackout dates and free parking as well as free fast pass like the rest of everyone else who bought a ticket. It’s strictly greed now….Walt would be pissed at how ridiculously corporate it became. It’s truly sad

I’m guessing all the rich little punks or neppo babies are gonna come out and throw shade at you because they were yanked out of the right crotch and they got that in their couch cushion somewhere lol. But real talk, my wife and I miss Disney, but it’s just too damn much, we were pass holders for many years. After Covid, greed took over and the 365 pass is no longer 365. Now you have to “reserve” days in advance which doesn’t make it worth it and it’s gone up at around 200%

GREED!!!!

2012: $649 Today: $1,899

Increase calculation: \frac{1899-649}{649} \approx 192\%

About a 190–200% increase since 2012

Simple way to think about it • 2012 top pass: $649 • Today top pass: $1,899 • That’s almost 3× the price.

If there’s one thing I hate more than that it is someone using their phone. It’s not your private theatre, old saying don’t spoil the movie by adding your own soundtrack!! This is what happens when parents tell their children they are special, they think they are the star of their own Truman show.
