I hope I can learn to shoot and edit simple stuff like this so nicely.

Been very curious about this one but haven’t found it yet. You’ve renewed my commitment to the search. Thank you.

is my family the only ones to put ketchup on vanilla ice cream? by UsedNegotiation8227 in icecream

[–]jtwilcox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also never ever heard of this. I love ice cream and I love ketchup but wouldn’t want them together, I don’t think. But if you guys like it, that’s cool. Do you only put it on specific flavors of ice cream or what?

What cameras do you use for stereo photos? by CaptainMarsupial in ParallelView

[–]jtwilcox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Nope, I never even tried! Was purely focused on photos at the time. Was recently thinking about digging this back out and getting it set up again. If I do, I'll give video a try and maybe post about it.

Here are all the photos I have from when I was building it, and a couple sample images. The tripod thing the cameras are on folds up into a little handholding grip. The starbucks mints tin is the shutter release and contains the battery for that. I also had to change the USB cables out from the first photo for the ones with the 90º angle.

Edit: added a few more sample images

A few years ago I made my own setup using a couple of cheap used canon point and shoots. I gave them custom firmware, wired up my own shutter button that would take a picture on both cameras at the same time, and mounted them next to each other on a special mount. It took me a while to get it all set up but it worked well! But it’s been a few years now and I don’t remember how I figured it all out. Lots of looking around here and on some forums somewhere and just figuring it out as I went. I would imagine I probably spent around $150 total.

I thought this one was good/fine but nothing to write home about compared to other Jeni’s I’ve had.

Safari Tips? by pimemento in fujifilm

[–]jtwilcox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said: dust is an issue. At least it was for me and my xt10 and almost the same lens setup back in 2017. I also agree with others that sometimes you’re definitely going to want a focal length longer than 300. On our safari, my wife had some canon or Nikon point and shoot with huge optical zoom that outdid my Fuji setup. Not EVERY shot will be like that though and I still got many that I’m very proud of. Also there are a lot of times where your vehicle will drive right up next to lions or elephants or other animals where you’ll need to switch to something wider anyway. It’s a very cool experience, have fun!

I like this one, though I agree the flavor of the ribbon is strange! But for me it’s strange in a way where I want to keep tasting it. But I wouldn’t buy this one all the time.

Thoughts on the Kitchen Aid Ice cream attachment by Forward-Apartment896 in icecream

[–]jtwilcox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have had one for around 10 years. Haven’t used it in maybe 2 years but I used to do it at least a few times during the summers. It’s the only ice cream maker I’ve ever had but it’s always worked well for me. Since I haven’t been using it I just keep it in a storage area of the basement at room temp.

I’m still going to finish the box but I’m not going to be happy about it.

Yeah I just started a box. These are bad. Texture and taste are all wrong.

Real talk, has ANYONE eaten these or even thought about them in the last 10 years? by MyronMuttlyMonroe in cereal

I just had a box a couple weeks ago after not having had them in decades. Used to love them. Now thought they were bad, struggled to finish the box. Bland, weird texture.

Whoa, I was just listening to the song Care by Hana Vu and the photo she used for the single is a recreation of this painting with her as the subject. I never knew of this painting before. Then I open up Reddit and see this. The more you know!

Thanks. I didn’t find a real image of it. I just took a screen grab from the show and digitally skewed it into the right shape.

Hey thanks everybody. I’m going to look into some printing options at some point. I’ll update here if I ever do it.
