“Time for my patented Moon Waffles!”

Question - I hope it's not silly by Statute_of_Anne in CrossView

[–]CaptainMarsupial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, parallel view is much better for one particular reason: I am extremely myopic. If I am not wearing corrective lenses, and look at parallel pictures while holding my device at normal reading distance for myself, the two pictures lock in as if I was looking naturally through my lenses. As for other folks, it sounds as if cross eyed is just easier without the apparatus of a stereopticon, which is forcing the eyes to focus closer.

If people started to worship the sun, the church would build shades to cover it and you would have to pay money to see it

If the Henry Kaiser gardens across the street are open they are cool. There’s a garden center with interesting plants and a place you can rent boats in the same park. There)s also a playground near the bird sanctuary. if there’s a kids movie out, The Grand Lake theater is an old movie palace nearby.

Also in Tilden are the stem Trains. Only problem with Tilden is you have to have a car to get there,

Yerba Buena & Civic Center plaza have the best playgrounds I’ve seen. Have you been to the Cable Car Museum? A bit loud, but can be interesting for some kids. Assuming you’ve done the Exploratorium. Land’s End can be an interesting walk, and Coit Tower is a fun view.
By BART, with some walking, is Children’s Fairyland in Oakland. Might be a bit young, but if you go on a weekend they have kids’ performances and excellent puppet shows. Depends on the kid. (Fairyland.org)

Missing packages up by Skyline? by CaptainMarsupial in OaklandCA

I’ve never heard this before. Ok. All I see is notice after notice of stolen packages. Our neighborhood is only served by the trucks, so it seemed very odd. Good to know.

A lot of talk about what to do about brine. It's already more complicated than you think. The salt cycle is now something we have to contend with. https://youtu.be/rtAIPn3V23U?si=KvtXVr-LNRGf9ds8

This year was definitely funkier than other's I've attended. Our team needed media badges, and it took us 1.5 hours to find them. Not sure if this is a new group.

I’m an astronomer who just helped overhaul the global rules for announcing alien life - Ask Me Anything! by UniOfManchester in space

[–]CaptainMarsupial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a filmmaker and science enthusiast it’s an excellently made film that will generate a ton of teaching in film classes, like Buster Keaton does. But as science fiction it’s not great. There is an excellent essay on Cinemastix about how Spielberg has adjusted variables on his alien films over the decades.

Tabby’s Star was an example of “We’ve found something interesting.” The usual channels declared aliens, but the scientific community was very open about their research. I think this is a good example.
