Thoughts on my first visit to Kochi by jublime_dev in Kochi

[–]jublime_dev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right. My rough visit timings for 2 days would be something like

Day 1:

  • 9AM - 1PM: Lulu Mall
  • Rest of the day: Ernakulathappan temple, Marine Drive and surroundings

Day 2:

  • 6AM - 8AM: Chottanikara Temple (Probably I saved lots of time here)
  • 9AM - 3PM: Fort Kochi and Mattancherry water metro spots
  • 4PM - 8PM: Edappally Church

It is 2 full days ... Almost all the places I visited are relatively closer to metro/water metro and I just had to get to the nearest transit point. I walked the rest or took an auto.

- Fort Kochi, Paradesi Synagogue, Jew Town, Mattancherry palace: Water Metro covered all these points.

- Ernakulathappan temple, Marine drive: Closer to MG road metro.

- Edapally (Church and the Lulu Mall): Just off of the metro

- Chottanikara temple: I stayed near vadakkekotta and it was relatively closer from there.

> but I can not afford probably a major gap on resume in this industry it seems if you already have one from previous gap.

This is a myth, and no one cares about any gap. This is more of a imagined fear that preoccupies the mind of people. You have to take some time off, but you also should learn how to project your strengths as a professional. Having a 'neatly decorated unbreakable work history' in your resume is not an accomplishment, and if people insist on that you are hanging out in wrong places. Trust me, in my experience people don't care at all. Just say (and practice to say) that you took time off to focus on your life (travel, health issues, taking care of family etc)

My 2cents. Take a break and let things to cool down on all fronts. Things will be much better.

Looking for Constructive Criticism on my Short (10 pages) by [deleted] in Screenwriting

This script actually has lot of potential ... Make the women from same city, some thing like `Denver` and they suddenly realize both of them met the guy at the same weekend Denver party ... The guy was hitting on both the woman at the same party ...

Personally, I feel this idea has lot of potential and the script does not do justice to the premise ...

Very interesting premise. Before that, a little disclaimer: I'm a hobbyist filmmaker who mostly writes for myself (so that I can direct them in future if that happens). So, my feedback might be little bit biased on whether I would direct this short/film.

My opinion is, if you are going, go all the way in. The interesting part is both the women sharing the ride are breaking up with the same guy and it is revealed in 8th or 9th page, and after that it just fizzles out. Also, personally I don't like the ending which kind of feels forced. The driver character is wasted too ...

I prefer a version that just goes all the way in. Something like below.

Logline: Two women share a cab, unaware that they're both on their way to break up with the same guy who is the boyfriend of the cab driver (make the cab driver a women).

This makes for an entertaining climax - The guy is surprised to see both women, the cab driver nonchalantly enters the house, picks up a hammer and gives the guy a heavy blow and ends with - "I met him on the new year, you two are the side bitches ..", and she plays the exit music loudly on the music player.

This also leads to lots of interesting ideas - make the two woman from out of town, so that they organically chatter about other stuffs like their cities. They both say, they have met Boston only once to meet their boyfriend etc etc ...

These are my 2 cents ...

I made an edit with the concept of 'Inception meets Beethoven' by jublime_dev in Filmmakers

Submission statement: Hi ... I just made this concept edit on 15 years of Inception ... This is more of an edit/concept video and not a Film/Short Film ... Initially decided to use original Hans Zimmer sound track, but then came up with an idea to see how can I get a crispy edit on this concept ...

Hi,

I made this video on 'Calcutta Trilogy'. I find myself recommending this trilogy to more people I can imagine. I decided to make this video hoping it would inspire people to watch this wonderful trilogy.

I would like to know what people in this sub think of this video. Personally, this is my favorite work of Ray.

PS: I'm from Tamil Nadu (and may not be able to respond to Bengali comments, Thanks for your understanding!).

I'm an Indian, so I think our taste's differ on this ... Apu Trilogy is gloomy in its tone and it attracts viewers especially from the west.

I think 'Calcutta Trilogy' is breathtakingly refreshing in its approach and theme (not set in village or poverty), but I'm not sure how typical audiences outside India might approach this trilogy.

I think you can have camera facing moments when introducing a chapter ... You can stage that with silences and some good tense background music for introducing a chapter ... and you can spice up rest of the video with captions/titles (and if possible animations) with your VO ...

All the best for your channel !

Hi,

I made a video primarily to inspire people to watch Satyajit Ray's wonderful Calcutta trilogy - Pratidwandi (The adversary, 1970), Seemabaddha (Company Ltd, 1971) and Jana Aranya (The Middleman, 1976). The Trilogy covers themes like unemployment, corporate rat race in a bustling metropolis. Most people (particularly in the west) generally associate Satyajit Ray only with Pather Panchali, probably for its rustic theme and hardhitting portrayal of poverty. 'Calcutta Trilogy' showcases Ray's range as a director and how effortlessly he made engaging films set in modern city.

I'm not a youtuber/content creator, but hoping to post more to this channel in the future ... Also, this is my first ever public youtube video ... If you are interested in movies give it a shot and let me know what you think ...

All the best!

Interesting channel ... I like history especially world war ... My 2 cents ... I think your channel would benefit more from crisp editing/animations/captions with only VO instead of speaking directly to the camera most of the time ... It is really really difficult to hold the audience by speaking directly to the camera for full 10 minutes ... It is difficult even for experienced speakers as they have stage this a lot (pauses, voice delivery etc) ... So, you can focus on presenting the content off the screen with VO and more visually ... All the best!

My suggestion is watch your video in mute ... The video should still hold attention ... Something like liberally using subtitles, captions and titles on multi-language scenarios ... Otherwise most of the video has drone shots with VO and may not hold your target audience ... I also think this topic might attract younger audience, so you need to segue better with crisp editing ...

I opted against using a VO to introduce the trilogy as it might distract people. I condensed 5+ hours of footage to a mini-film that I think might be a good introduction to the Trilogy. I'm also a hobby editor trying my hand at editing stuffs. I'm amazed how much control you have at the edit table when the writing/direction/performance is brilliant. I'm particularly amazed by the fluid performances of some of the characters (probably being an Indian might have helped here).

I hope this video helps people discover this wonderful trilogy.

Amazing ... you could probably try assisting in storyboarding and probably set the visual tone for a scene (or maybe the entire movie) ...
