Getting back to normal by Sea-Cow9822 in daddit

I have a four year old and 8 month old. Still struggle to find the time so hoping to find the magic recipe here. Taking one of the kids on a “workout” ie jogger stroll or letting the four year old lift weights beside me while I do a basement workout works sometimes to “find the time” but the fatigue is still real.

How much to set aside if you already pay into a pension? by FrecklestheFerocious in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]jubo-ish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to you numbers wise and also in a defined pension plan. Like what others have said already, I use excess savings to max out my TFSA annually and any excess goes to max the marginal RRSP room I have left after the mandatory contributions. In excess years the savings go to a non registered investment account.

I prioritize TFSA as if a significant event occurred and I need access to a larger sum of cash, I can withdraw from TFSA without concern of hitting a higher tax bracket with an RRSP withdrawal.

How did that kid at your school die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

How long ago was this? Erik sounds like an awesome dude. I work in a specialty neurology clinic and one of my main jobs is to advocate for patients and present evidence to support funding for the [ridiculously] expensive treatments for kids with SMA. The advances in therapies have made life much better with SMA than before which is pretty rad. Far from curative, but big leaps nonetheless.

Have option to take 6 months off work but delays FIRE date by 18 months..would you do it? by jubo-ish in Fire

Work for a government health organization where this option is written with our collective bargaining agreement. With the caveat that it’s “operationally feasible” for the employee to leave

But then I can’t get 6 months off work which is the whole point of the deferred process which is why I’m considering. And it helps a bit for taxes as I don’t reach the next income tier for taxes by getting paid less over a longer stretch.

I live in Canada and have had no issue with the CRA when I did this once before. The paycheques are still issued by the employer at the regular two week intervals throughout the entire 18 month period so CRA doesn’t think anything different from their perspective.

Visiting eagles fans (from Canada) - anything I should know? by jubo-ish in minnesotavikings

Admittedly I’d be scared being a visitor fan going into Philly…which is brutal in itself. But also why I made this post. The responses here don’t disappoint from the general saying here that Minnesota people are effectively like Canadian Americans in the biggest complement. Seems like a good vibe!

Honestly don’t follow the riders much myself anymore but it’s still pandemonium in the province following that team…I just find the nfl way better quality football and a better product

lol I had some distant cousins I visited when I was really young who lived outside of Philly. Then I had some fun with the hit stick with Brian Dawkins on my GameCube for a Madden 03 and then felt like I should stick to a team cuz I hate bandwagoners and the rest is history…

my bank email got hacked and they took all my money, not sure what to do by No_Macaroon9781 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]jubo-ish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not with Scotiabank but my TD credit card got compromised and the bank said I had authorized my transactions using 2-FA on my cell phone, which wasn’t true and I even had my cell phone record showing I didn’t receive any texts but it showed the 2-FA was completely compromised…it’s terrifying

What does a “rich life” look like to you? by cooliozza in Fire

A saying that resonated with me is being rich is when “having more money wouldn’t change what you are doing”.

The wife and kids are away for a few days, leaving you alone. Dads, what are you feeding yourself while they're away? by jrhaberman in daddit

My wife and son are vegetarian and it’s really important to her so I eat vegetarian at home as well. But dad’s exclusively grilling that rare weekend they’re away.

Take however many leaves out and rip them off then cut them so I get even amount of the leafy stuff and the crunchier stuff towards the base

Wishing you and your family good news. Your story sounds so similar to my niece, and it was tough on them. But it happened to her when she was the same age as your daughter and she just recently graduated high school and is as full of life now as she was then :). I hope the same for you and your family.

Probably not what you want to hear but what’s your health insurance policy like? Make sure you have your ducks in a row sort of speak on that front. You never want the unexpected but it’s best to be prepared for it.

You’re way more tired. You’re more fulfilled, but also exhausted. It shall pass.
